Fish and salad were amazing. Pot stickers were so-so (loved the the Kailua pork they used to stuff them with).
Great meal and service.Server was impeccable the busser was very attentive to our water refills.nice and quiet.Great Time
We absolutely loved Plantation Gardens when we first visited a few years ago. Our most recent visit didn’t live up to the first one. The food was tasty, but lacked in some nuances of flavor. It was a rather slow evening and our server didn’t seem overly interested in making our evening truly special. So, I’d recommend this restaurant...and hope we just had an off night.
Over the years, this restaurant continues to loose steam. It used to be our go to staple but each visit continues to loose appeal...soon it will be a memory...not sure what memory will be lasting as this recent visit was lackluster with much to be desired.
Pot stickers were so tough they could not be cut with a knife—only ate one and told busboy. Fish was over cooked and dry. Manager came out when we were done. Offered new food, but he should have been there half an hour earlier to see how it was—not after the plates were pushed away.
A wonderful evening spot for an early dinner. Ambiance was lovely and, though not an oncean view, the gardens and wait staff were so pleasant. Food was excellent. We ate out every night during our stay and we really enjoyed this restaurant. My only criticism is that it was difficult to find with rather poor signage but, once we found it, we had a delightful dinner!
Always reliable, rarely spectacular; the ambience is excellent, if you're not picky about the negative connotations of colonial/imperial/plantation history and ethic.
Weather on Kauai has been windy and rainy so our experience was dampened a little by that. Certainly no fault of the restaurant but I subtracted one star since we chose not to sit on the edge of the lovely building and it changed the ambiance. Bar tables were filled so we sat as close into the building as possible at the long communal table. There was only one other couple there and we had a nice conversation.
I think our server’s name was Brendan and he did a good job for us. My SO had the ceviche starter, then poke for entree while I had the lau lau. The poke was disappointing only in that it was only ahi and seaweed with no avocado as we have come to expect. My bundle of scallops, mahi and shrimp was delicious with brown rice (I don’t eat white rice so was happy about that). Drinks were good and it was a very aloha evening in spite of being a little chilly.
We are staying on the property for a week and I hope to go back, at least for happy hour.
Great hidden, quiet gem surrounded by a tropical garden. Our server was top notch and the food was amazing. A wonderful, relaxing evening.
We had been to Plantation Gardens 12 years ago and though our experience could not get any better. We were wrong, last week's visit was amazing. The food was so flavorful and fresh, our friends we had brought were quite impressed too. One commented, that he usually does not eat bean sprouts but the flavor of the Seafood Lau Lau was so good he ate all the beansprouts before the seafood-his wife was astonished. The ambiance was relaxing and beautiful, and the service was outstanding. The restaurant gardens were gorgeous; the addition of the orchids is a bonus-so delicate. My kids enjoyed seeing the pictures I sent them of the Koi, they remembered them after so many years. I look forward to visiting again.
Great food but waiter was not at all attentive to our needs.
Beautiful venue and wonderful food. The Seafood Lau Lau is my favorite entrée ever and the presentation is exquisite. Our waiter was very helpful, seemed a little preoccupied but it was a great evening.
Great food and service. The seafood LauLau was great.
We had a great dinner at this lovely location. Servers were very friendly but also a bit slow. But it’s Kauai so no problem.
Excellent food, Samantha very personable server, gardens well worth a stroll before dark.
Very good service and food.
It was very enjoyable. The food was excellent! I had the quinoa crusted fish and it was amazing. Our server was knowledgeable and very attentive. She had a great personality and was fun to talk to. We may not have a chance to go back before we leave, but we would highly recommend it.
Birthday dinner was perfect. Great tropical garden scene. We each had fish, different species prepared differently and tastefully. Desert, was baked Hawai’i a take off of Alaska. Highly recommend. We’ll ll definitely go back when on Kauai next year.
We’ve been coming to this restaurant since 2001 and it never fails to be a delightful meal. Attentive service and good food. Best mai tai of the week (outdistancing Brennekes, Tidepools, ...). I always have order envy here as all the dishes were fantastic: Seafood lau lau and grilled fish were awesome.
As always, we enjoyed our dinner at Plantation Gardens. They had a special of an 8 oz lobster tail and grilled prawns that was excellent. Service was excellent.
Great dinner! Our waiter was wonderful, made the perfect suggestions. The chicken wing pupus should be a dinner item served with their fantastic fries. The Asian slaw is to die for. Will go back again.
Plantation Gardens always has great food. Love the lanai setting.
We love to stop by Plantation Gardens every time we are in Kauai. They are better than ever!
Really good dinner
It was no fault of the restaurant, but it was quite cool outside the night we ate there. It was breezy, damp and cool at our table, so it wasn't as nice an experience as I had hoped for. Overall our dinner was good, and I would come back again. Our food was very good, and the service was exceptional.
We go every year when we are in Kauai. The ribs have a new sauce recipe we did not like as well as the old--too spicy. Everything else pretty good.
Wonderful atmosphere with fine food at a reasonable price. Gluten free friendly was an added bonus
We've eaten at Plantation Gardens several times. This time the food wasn't quite as tasty; it was fairly flat and bland. The weather was terribly cold, and the blinds were drawn, but space heaters were needed.
We ate dinner here a few times during our visit. The first meal was delicious. My husband had the catch of the day and raved about it. I had the pot roast, which was served with a different mix of vegetables than I have normally had with it. It was very tasty but the serving was just too large for me and I had to leave a good portion of it that I just could not finish. For the next meal, my husband had the steak which he loved. I I had the Chicken Linguine and it was delicious, as well, although, again, too large of a serving for me. The ambience was absolutely relaxing and enjoyable. The garden setting is fabulous. Would definitely recommend eating here.
We had the same kind of fish several times in Hawaii and this time it tasted fishier and less moist.
The food and service was excellent. However the drinks were expensive. $5 for each glass of root beer was outrageous.
Beautiful setting - we sat on a deck overlooking some ponds and tropical plants. We had dessert and it was delicious - Baked Hawaiian (amazing) and passion fruit cheese cake (maybe a little too fruity - the whole thing tastes infused as opposed to just some fruity topping). The waiter was very friendly. Thanks for the lovely experience.
Really good food and service. The only challenge was that we needed gluten free options and they are not clearly shown on the menu. Our waiter was very helpful in making sure our meal choice was gluten free and the meal was delicious.
This is a favorite of ours. We dined with two other couples. one couple we'e dined with before here and they consider Plantation Gardens to be on of their favorite restaurants on Kauai. One of our guests, who had no eaten here previously commented that this was the best food he's ever had on Kauai. We love their f fresh fish and the wonderful, locally grown salads.
Beautiful view. Food was OK. Staff was very good.
Fantastic experience. Friendly and attentive staff. Beautiful setting. Delicious food. They made us feel special on our anniversary.
Love the season’s menu.
The seafood lau lau was fantastic. We were able to split at no extra charge. Our service was very personable and attentive. The grounds are gorgeous and full of orchids. We even had a bull frog making himself known in the nearby pond. This place reminds you that you are in Hawaii.
The restaurant has gone down since the last time we were there a few years ago. To begin with the menu was paper which was very used- dirty and crumpled.
Drinks were served right away but it took an incredible amount of time to get our order of edamame (which were very good).
Limited number of wines by the glass.
Food was just okay. The coconut stew was large in size, but too much liquid and potatoes than fish.
The service in general was very slow even though there were a number of empty tables.
An embarrassing nightmare. The "fresh fish" was obviously previously frozen. The drink menu was gross at best. The good thing is the service was so terrible we were never offered drink # 2. For the money they charge something that resembles food and service would be acceptable. A coney island in a small town would be a more comprehensive dining experience. A feral cat wandered the dining room and was apparently an acceptable addition to the ambiance. The best hope from this experience would be to reverse any remaining symptoms of the dramamine that was consumed yesterday.
