We had a terrific server named Marcus. He was very helpful knew how to make us feel welcome. We will come back because he was that good!
great place to enjoy a meal quiet, beautiful view and fantastic food
We have loved Pineapple Grill and eaten there many times over the years. Unfortunately, it is no longer the PG we loved. So disappointed that it has gone downhill. We tried it twice this month but will not return.
We felt like we were dining in a friend’s home! The service was outstanding and the food was DELICIOUS! The Mahi-mahi and tuna entrees were wonderful! A great value for outstanding food with terrific views.
Food was great
We had a fish plate with yellow curry that was a nice change from other Mahi Mahi preparations. The curry went great with the fresh veggies. The sour dough bread was fresh and authentically ‘sour’. We had the patio to ourselves for awhile and the servers were great.
Food mediocre not worth the price. First time there in 5 years used to come every time we came to Maui sadly probably our last time. Hope it gets better
Nice server but food was not special and menu was limited. More of a lunch golfer's place than a special dinner venue.
My wine preference was out of stcok but the replaement was special!
Our waiter from Florida was excellent in all regards.
The hostess was great. We received a warm, professional welcome. Unfortunately, the hostess wasn’t our server. The server eventually showed up, struggled with eye contact, moved erratically, and had unexplained delays in service. He was nice enough, but gave off the feeling of being under the influence of an illegal substance.
The facilities need an update, particularly the restrooms. The food was mediocre, but the did a good job of not overcooking the fish. The highlight of the meal was definitely the namesake pineapple upside down cake.
I found the food was prepared well. The Sourdough bread (extra cost) is worth it since there are very few places in Maui that serve it. The service people seemed new and overwhelmed.
Hungry for hamburger after eating so much fish for past week. It was very good.
We had a reservation for four, arrived on time and found that their were only two servers for the whole restaurant..We had to wait for 30 minutes finally the manager sat us in the bar so he could wait on us.
Also you have reduce the size of the menu and was told the reason was because you were losing money. We come every year to Kapalua for 2 months and have been disappointed ever since Troon took over the restaurant, maybe you should stick to golf.
Very nice and attentive service. One of our plates were late so it was free. Thought that was nice. New management trying to turn things around. IMO needs Hawaiian music instead of popular songs.
Great experience at the Pineapple Grill - delicious food, great service! Great meal for our first trip to Maui!
Young waiter seemed bored with job; rather be surfing.
Manager (very professional) had to cover.
Dined twice here during our vacation in Maui. The first night was a problem in that only one server was working. It made for a longer wait for food. However, we were offered a free dessert on our return. This dessert, upside down pineapple cake, is delicious and we enjoyed it on our return visit. The coconut prawn and ahi tostada appetizers were excellent.
They are getting anew chef. Menu changed. Not happy about the changes.
This place was very over priced and very underwhelming. Their menu was minimal and a lot of things I read about in the reviews they no longer has on their menu. We walked out and ended up going else where.
Got violently ill after eating here, server was not attentive and getting the check took a very long time. Has been this way on repeated visits so we will not be back.
We have dined at PG for many years. When the ownership changed a couple of years ago or so the quality dipped, but they appear to be coming back. The food is good - although more local fish items would be welcome.
The one thing that could be improved are the metal chairs. They are uncomfortable and the addition of cushions has not helped much.
All in all a great neighborhood restaurant that seems to be on its way back!
The Duroc ribeye pork chop was nothing short of 5 star. Served with caramelized brussel sprouts, apple sauce, fingering potatoes and a sweet and sour mustard IPA sauce it could not have been better. A superb meal and very reasonably priced. Great service and setting.
I so wanted the iceberg wedge salad so I paired with soft pretzel sticks with pimento cheese. Oh,my gosh, was I pleased. The salad was just what I’d hoped. Excellent blue cheese dressing(and plenty of it), ripe tomato and a glorious hard boiled egg. Pretzel sticks were soft, perfectly salted. Pimento cheese spread was awesome. I must admit this was my best meal in the 4 weeks of our Maui visit. My husband ordered chicken with garlic potatoe purée. He’s a meat and potatoe kind of guy and this had him purring. We will be back.
We were very excited about dining at Pineapple Grill. We made reservation aweek prior. When we got there we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Reservation was at 7:00pm our server didn’t get our drinks until about 7:45. The food was good but terrible service. He was clearly overwhelmed. This dinner was after we just got married on the beach. Our family was not happy with the experience and when we didn’t leave a tip the server chased us outside asking for it.
Such bad service for a kapalua restaurant. We ended up leaving because no one would serve us and we had a reservation
Service was excellent, food was very good, best desert ever!
From our corner We had a beautiful view of the mountain on one side and the ocean on the other. Nice place to watch the sunset. We enjoyed the macaroni and cheese with kalua pork and the Cobb salad. Our waiter Marcus was very pleasant and accommodating.
We were not expecting the change. Ownership changed hands about a year ago, so now this has become quite casual. Very different menu. All the interior is different with uncomfortable chairs. The food was still good, dessert was delicious with the pineapple upside down cake! The drinks didn't seem to be made correct, couldn't taste the rum or other flavors. Now expensive and casual! Miss the old place!
Really disappointed in the under-staffed setting. Felt more like a golf course club house than a restaurant.
Nice server, but delivery was slow, probably due to the kitchen.
Starter was good but entre was slow to be delivered and when it arrived the plate was hot, the sides were hot, but the main item was Luke warm.... ruined the entire dinning experience.
Deserts were over priced and looked (in-the menu) to be too heavy.
Over all rating....weak
We have enjoyed the Pineapple Grill before, but this time they had many problems.
When we arrived for our reservation no one was at the reception desk. After 5 minutes the greeter appeared. She stacked us up with two other groups to wait for a table, although the restaurant had many empty tables. We waited at the bar. I ordered a gin lemon drop martini; I had to stop the bartender from making it with vodka instead of gin. When he served the drink, it was in a cracked glass.
After 20 minutes we were seated at a nice dinner table. The server left the two of us two wine lists and one menu. Yes, they had similar covers, but really!
After these many mistakes, we didn't dare order raw fish (poke, ceviche) since we had no confidence in the competence of the staff. Nor did we want any of the salads with romaine lettuce (currently banned by CDC) or soft boiled egg.
We asked for water, which took a very long time to arrive. Eventually we got our drinks (local IPA and Chardonnay) and our starter, a tasty warm potato and leek soup. This made us think that things were looking up. However, then we had a 30 minute wait for our main courses, consisting of a rib eye steak and a filet mignon, both ordered medium rare. The filet was overcooked to medium. The rib eye was slightly overcooked as well.
We chatted with the greeter on the way out and she told us of her early days working for the Dole Pineapple Company in Hawaii. This left us in a much better mood. Nevertheless, this restaurant needs to do some work to shape up their offering.
I tried to add photos of our steaks, but OpenTable's buggy website will not accept 1.7 MB photos, despite their statement that they will accept up to 5 MB.
The whole experience was great. Best food on Maui.
It is totally poor to charge 20% auto tip for diners with 4 adults and 2 children under 4 yrs old
Service was good but will never go back due to the auto tip.
This was New Years Eve dinner but more importantly, our 29th wedding anniversary. We were running a bit late so my husband dropped me off to check in on time. By the time he got back, we still were not seated. No problem. Eventually the host comes back and walks us to a table in a dark corner. Waiter said the lights weren’t connected so we got an extra candle instead.
One of our friends asked for a glass of Prosecco. The waiter said they ran out of it. Hmmm...running out of bubbly by 7pm on NY Eve is not a good sign. Then we also ordered a bottle of wine and when the waiter served it, he poured all of our glasses without asking someone to sample it. We were shocked and then our friend asked him if he knew what he was doing. He looked dumbfounded and said it was “his bad”. At some point he told us that they were short of help this night. I’m thinking, “this is NYEve.”
Our food was delicious albeit Our Fillet was only was quickly getting cold. The pork chops was great and so were the Pupus and salad. But our waiter kinda messed up the evening by not knowing what he was doing and no finesse in his table side manners. And the restaurant was getting more and more empty. Wasn’t very festive and no one mentioned our anniversary even tho it was mentioned in the Open Table Rez. I don’t even know if the restaurant confirmed my check in because I didn’t get a follow up email from Open Table. Unfortunately this was not a good closing of 2017 or a great anticipation of 2018.
Reservations for 6:30, not crowded, seated late, food arrived at 8:20! Our server paid for our first round of drinks. Asked why so slow, new chef. Food arrived cold and was not the best quality (4 out of 10 for food). Very disappointed.
That was our Christmas Dinner .We orderd
one salad for share and everybody's dinner plate.
first able , we ordered pina colada .
They comes no straw .
Salad came very last .
All our meals comes cold.
And last minute , Bili came include tips.
We understand that was very busy, but
all service was terrible .
we will not go that restaurant again .
Excellent service and great food!
Two items we ordered really stood out - the calamari appetizer and the pineapple upside cake. The calamari was brined and extremely tender, not at all chewy. The pineapple upside cake is large enough to share, and was really a level above any other pineapple upside cake we had while on Maui, both in presentation and flavor.
Went with my husband and 2 teens during “happy hour” and enjoyed a nice selection of dishes off the Pupus menu as well as a couple off the main. We tried the baby back ribs, chicken wings, artichoke hearts, the poke bowl and chicken burger. The sauce on the chicken burger could have been a little thicker to keep it from dripping out but everything else was fantastic. Excellent house red for $5 during happy hour and nice variety of draft beers for $7. The view and service were excellent even in the more casual dining area on the patio overlooking the golf course. Will definitely go back!
Nothing exceptional here. Decent food.
