Been to Pidgin quite a few times and this meal was the best ever...superb. Visual inventive delicious food.
All good, but couldn't hear the waiter description of the plates due noise levels
Truly great food whose inventiveness is surprising but sadly quite a noisy venue.
It is so refreshing to eat in a restaurant where the emphasis is on culinary excellence , imaginative menu design, and a simple but so welcoming ambience
We come here every so often when we have something to celebrate and we are always very happy with our dinner. However this was my least favourite. My expectations were high (as always) but this time it fell a bit short.
Great experience! The food and staff were lovely. As some other reviews mention, the portions are small but there are 8 courses and food is rich with flavors so we left feeling full and extremely satisfied. We had a wonderful time!
Excellent food, a quiet bit expensive. Healthy as quantities are low. Wine not bad but expensive for the quality.
Truly wonderful experience - the menu, the staff, the ambience.
I fab restaurant that I would go back to again and again, innovative food without too much pretence
A casual setting, welcoming and far from intimidating unlike other fine dining/taster menu restaurants.
For me the wine taster is a must. Spectacular value, just note that the italic dishes on the menu are “snacks”.
The execution of each dish is sublime, the deserts weren’t my preference on this occasion but was able to appreciate the flavour combinations. The portions are small but the flavours are rich and intense. The staff are knowledgable and attentive, explaining each dish as it arrives.
For £100 each we had 4 courses 4 “snacks” and 5 glasses of wine. A great evening, could come every week and a new experience be served.
Had a fantastic meal here. Staff were friendly and attentive, the restaurant is stylish in an understated way, but the real star of the day was the food. Inventive without being challenging, all the dishes we had were ridiculously tasty and thoroughly enjoyable. The pace of the meal is very relaxed, which worked great as we had the paired wines and meant we never felt hurried and could enjoy the experience.
Well looked after, very pleasant staff, good service, very tasty and inventive food, would happily go back!
nice wine list too...
Second time visiting Pidgin and yet again the unique menu did not dissappint!
Have been wanting to come here for ages and finally we had a perfect meal at pidgin recently, the food was fantastic, and had such exciting mixture of ingredients. The waiting staff were knowledgable and friendly, the wine was fantastic (even though the girlfriend and I said we weren’t going to drink...whoops!) The ambience and atmosphere were spot on to, all in all a fantastic place to dine. What with the ever changing menu, I am sure we will be back! Thank you Pidgin for a lovely evening!
I love Pidgin. The food is outstanding, every time. This time the service was *extra* surly. I know what to expect from Hackney, but not a single smile? :-/
The food at Pidgin was incredible! Would highly recommend. It's a great size with a wonderful atmosphere and the bathroom feels like your in a storm! Unfortunately the service was a little underwhelming, either she was taking it incredibly seriously or perhaps had had some bad news that day. We tried our best to create rapport but it fell rather flat.
A really interesting menu with faultless service. Well done
Outstanding restaurant, great experience, delicious and creative food, highly recommended.
This was our fifth time at pidgin. It continues to be a delight every time.
Have eaten at Pidgin before but not for a couple of years. Still excellent the food is innovative and the service excellent. We had one diner in our party gluten intolerant and I mentioned this in my booking confirmation and she had several adjustments to the menu all planned into her meal to take account of this. No discussions on the night to disrupt what was my wife birthday party. We had a great evening.
Only one word describes this place......wow!! Amazingly tasty food, perfectly matched wine and a relaxed atmosphere.
It is the second time I am going to Pidgin. First time, I was extremely impressed by the quality and creativity of the menu. In fact, that is why I went back a couple of months later. Unfortunately the second experience was way less impressive. Food and menu was by no means bad, but nothing compared to the first visit. It is therefore difficult for me to say what the standard is. My take away is that quality varies, which makes it a good but not outstanding restaurant. One thing that did shock all of us at the table last time I went, was the very abrupt way they asked us to leave at the end of the dinner. It was a Saturday evening and it was indeed busy, but they basically brought our coats together with the bill and told us to leave asap. It really felt like they were kicking us out without any reason for it, we had been there for 2.5 hours and were about to leave anyway. It ended the whole experience on a negative note and left a bad taste in my mouth
Just brilliant, always a fantastic experience. Lucky us for having such a restaurant so close.
Avoid as pretentious and expensive for what they offer
Fantastic tasting menu and wine pairing with friendly and efficient service in an intimate neighborhood restaurant.
Incredible food and wine and a wonderful atmosphere - this place is a gem. My partner and I are both vegetarian and the chefs expertly adapted the tasting menu for us so that we didn't feel we were missing out compared to the carnivores in the room. One of the desserts - with flavours of gooseberry and coffee - was the best I have ever eaten! The home-made limoncello with the bill was also a lovely touch. Will definitely be back here.
This was the best dinner I have had in a very long time. We had such a lovely evening.
This is the second time I've visited (first time was a decent experience with dishes that work well together).
This time however, was a total disappointment comparing to my visit a year ago...
Waiter keeps forgetting what the dish ingredients are when introducing. First dish with the mushrooms and shirachj mayo was fried so oily so all I could taste was the the batter and the oil...
The pork dish with cabbage and fried potatoes was a nightmare. It wasn't pork, it was pure pig fat... couldn't bring myself to finish it at all.
I was sitting close to the kitchen and this bright adjustable kitchen light keeps shining onto our table every now and then and ruins the ambient lighting...
They also handed our jacket and bags to another customer after their meal...
It was pricey for the food that they served so I don't think there will be a next time.
Despite high expectations, food was not that exceptional. It took a while for some dishes to come out. They also didn’t offer us to pick our seating whilst they did for other customers who walked in after us.
We’re so pleased we discovered this delicious little restaurant, tucked away in a side street of Hackney. The tasting menu was exquisite with so much variation. Each course was exciting and different to the last. The waiters really described everything so well and considering the menu and pairing wines change every week they did an incredible job.
Only criticism was they only had a table at 9.30 so as we were the last in there they didn’t offer coffee or the cheese course. Maybe they shouldn’t take late bookings if they can’t finish serving the meal.
Also we wanted to contact the restaurant before we came and they do not pick up their phones which apparently should be manned between 4-6pm.
Apart from this we would definitely go back again and again. Such great food and atmosphere. Well done Pidgin.
Still a really great little restaurant despite losing its star. Nice laid back atmosphere. Service was attentive without going overboard. Good food and great value.
Food was good but lighting was really dim for taking pictures and quite cramp
Outstanding experience! Will have to go back soon.
A very pleasent dining experience altogether
My second visit, and another excellent, inventive menu. A friendly, relaxed venue with great service.
Great concept. And half the time it delivers inventive cooking successfully. The Celeriac dish early in the lineup was best. Two Chicken dishes were very good. Desserts were excellent except for the beef-fat cube. Looking forward to trying a new menu there in my next visit.
Birthday spot fantastic experience once again
I don't usually take the time to write a review, but we had such a great experience that Pidgin deserves nothing but kudos - for everything. We found them when looking for a place to dine before an early concert nearby. The timing was tight, but the staff served us their full tasting menu, efficiently but not hurriedly paced, and got us out the door in time! Dishes were beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Simply our best meal of our month in the UK! What a gem!
Amazing food, wines were very good and came out feeling extremely satisfied. They catered to last minute additions to allergies and food preferences very well.
Wonderful and extremely imaginative flavour combinations with a small but excellent wine list. Some dishes did not really come off either because they tried a bit too hard or were too clever for their own good - beef dripping fudge anyone? - but overall a really good meal. Service was good but unremarkable.
