Very authenic Italian restaurant with a varied menu. Lasagna was freshly made and delicious. Pasta with seafood was also served piping hot with a variety of clams, prawns, shrimp and calamari over linguine. Would take my best friends here. Good wine list. Excellent service from Alexandra.

Excellent food, great value, great location and staff very good at a genuinely family run Italian restaurant. A real find and highly recommend. I love sea food and the quality, and the quantity (which you see less of these days) was the best I’ve ever had

Had a lovely lunch outside with my family, delicious seafood linguine and great service, they had a massive group in at the same time as us and still saw to us and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely go again and recommend to others

Made reservation months ago because menu offered both vegetarian and many gluten free options (and noted in reservation). Arrived to find they only had a very limited special menu that night with no gluten free options at all. The person seating us was short and abrupt and seemed too harried. Very disappointed they could offer us no alternative at the restaurant nor a suggestion where to go in the area, and disappointed that they had not contacted us to say there would be this extremely limited menu. It was a very small restaurant with no ambience, noisy and entrance not thru main door but back way right next to kitchen. We left as they could offer us nothing. We fortunately found a delightful spot L’Artigiani only a block away that accommodated us without a reservation at last minute.

Decided on Piccolino due to the positive reviews. The night we chose was a themed menu so not much on offer to select other than a type of fried pizza in the form of a parcel. Whilst eating, a member of staff asked me to move so he could access there files or accounts behind me.. and he continued to access the area at times, whilst we ate. So maybe just wrong timing for us on this case. We will not be going back or recommending to others.

Yummy food and lovely staff. The seafood linguine is excellent. Children’s menu is limited but my children loved the breaded chicken and calamari! Pasta with tomato sauce was also very tasty according to my vegetarian friends!

Attended Book festival and had a late lunch here, 15.15p.m. Not very busy at that time but the atmosphere was pleasant. It is a small, traditionally furnished Italian place and we could smell delicious garlicky aromas as we entered. My friend had the venison penne and I plumped for the spaghetti Vongole with a side salad. Both dishes were excellent and as these are not dishes we make at home we really enjoyed them. They were fresh and authentic tasting, as good as any I have eaten in Italy. Prices are not cheap, but fair and very good value for freshly cooked and delicious food. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly.

Friendly Italian place with a warm welcome. We enjoyed excellent pasta dishes from a fairly short but inventive menu, great house wine and a brilliant Sicilian desert. All for a very reasonable price in todays world. We will definitely go back.

Not a big restaurant size wise, but big flavours food wise. Service was friendly and attentive, food was delicious and perfectly prepared. Our group of 3 shared the Buffalo Caprese, side salad and grilled vegetables along with spaghetti carbonara, venison pasta & grilled fish. We had just enough room to share chocolate cheesecake for dessert. We would definitely go back next time we’re in Edinburgh

Picolino was very great! the service was really good. Three people were running the tables always looking at us and the other customers all the time, I was surprised and very pleased to see them speaking in different languages, very multicultural, very customer focus orientated and friendly environment. The place was really nice, the food was amazing. My wife and I have some nice bruschettas and prawns for starters. Delicious! followed by Pollo fillet and seafood frittata, both with a green salad. The flavour was perfect! All food in general was really really good! Finally, as I mentioned it was my wife's birthday during booking, the waitresses sang happy birthday to my wife at the time they brought the desserts. Perfect! It was our first visit to Edinburgh and Picolino's and we found this as an excellent restaurant to eat after walking all day around the city. Thanks for a great dinner and attention to us! Grazie mille!

Walking through the restaurant other diners food looked really good. Meatball starters where very tasty as was the bruschette alas the mains, spicy sausage was quite bland and the carbanarra was quite salty. Maybe just picked the wrong dish...
