When we opened the doors of our tiny restaurant in December 2006, our goal was to make Piccino as welcoming as the home of a close friend, our food as simple and beautifully executed as possible. We're honored that Piccino became a thriving hub of the community. In May of 2011, we moved from our original space into a new home (dubbed The Yellow Building) on the corner of 22nd & Minnesota Streets.
Our menu still features the classic and seasonally driven thin-crust pizzas and polpette Piccino is known for; our salads and soups use the finest organic produce sourced directly from small local farms. Piccino's menu has expanded to include more small starter plates, house-made pastas, contorni (vegetable sides), and special entrees of meat, fish, or poultry. Seasonal desserts and expertly made coffee complete our daily offerings.

Piccino Ratings and Reviews
Dogpatch is still playing catch-up in the fine dining arena but Piccino was touted to us as a place worth a trip. As it happens we had business in the area so we chose it for lunch. Piccino has a very nice vibe, a combination of casual sophistication and new age spirit. The place is bright and open and the seating is comfortable. Noise level was a modest buzz. Service was friendly and professional. We started with the radish and kohlrabi appetizer, which was interesting but not totally successful. For entrees we shared the funghi pizza (acceptable), the strozzapreti with squash (flavorful but quite rich) and the chiocciole with fennel sausage (excellent, but a little spicy). We found carafes of some decent, slightly obscure wines ( a syrah and a chardonnay from producers we never heard of). At $37/pp wine tip and tax included it was not unreasonable for a creative meal, although not a bargain. We will return when our travels take us to that part of town but I don't view Piccino as a destination restaurant.
came here for lunch and it was amazing. every dish from appetizer to pizza to dessert was beautifully presented and a taste sensation. so i made dinner reservations to send a good friend off to NYC. And blah. nothing was terrible, but nothing was particularly noteworthy either, except for the service which was attentive, accommodating & not over-bearing.
Fancy place ! Pleasant people looking after you ! Food as such was ok but not great! The sun choke dish was good , that was something I have never had anywhere else. The soup was pretty bland lacked flavor . The main entree vegetarian pasta dish was good ! The non alcoholic pear beverage was too sour for my taste!
Our waitress was super knowledgeable of the menu and provided answers to all our questions. She was honest with her recommendations and we couldn't have had a better meal. Definitely plan on going back very soon. Other staff members were also very attentive.
OVerall, it was a good experience. However, the food was not of the highest quality. Some dishes were great but some were average. I wish there were more dishes lower in carb value for those who are health-conscious.
I will return, however, to try their pizza.
absolutely great first time at Piccino! Took an out-of-town friend, needed a warm cozy place for a good long chat, and we had that and more. The food was excellent, authentic yet updated, and we liked every single dish we had. Also, the service was perfect - that hard to get balance between attentive and "overly present". Knowledgable and friendly wait person. Would definitely recommend and will go back!
Overall a very pleasant experience. Mushroom pizza was delicious, two pasta dishes were great(Chiocciole and Strozzapreti), seared octopus was tender and delicious too, although on a small side..In mains-sea bass was delicious. Desserts were actually a big disappointment for me. It would be so nice to finish with a great dolce! We had a roasted pear with some crumble&ice cream and second one was beignets. The pear was so uninspiring..the scoop of ice cream was a best part of it..and the price $18 was not justified at all. Beignets-a spoon of sauce that came with 5 beignetts tasted good, but overall-nothing to write about..Maybe we picked the wrong ones! Although both were recommended by the hostess/waiter. The wine selection is always very good and reliable there.
Consistently excellent food. Family visiting from other major cities are often blown away.
Sadly, service this time was subpar (and unusual for Piccino).
Other, veteran servers appear to be continuing their attentive service. Our newer service still has a way to go.
This is a really nice place for lunch or dinner for 1 or 10. There is nice bar seating around the kitchen and large community tables for larger parties! It's a really nice, warm, well lite space! We had a 6 olock reservation and the Restaurant was completely full but the middle of our dinner but wasn't too noisy or loud. We didn't have to yell to talk to one another.
I love that there is a daily menu. There are lots of great options and there is something for everything. We went for more vegetables. We have two salads, a pasta and fish. Everything was really tasty, fresh and light! The puntarelle salad we had was nice and it was finished with shaved tuna heart on top but it was a bit over dressed! The beets weren't that special but tasted good. The entrees however were excellent! Strozzapreti which was a sauce of squash and pine nut and I'm not sure what else topped with cheese and it was amazing!!! Lots of depth of flavor and flavors that went so well together. It was cozy and delicious yet elegant. Then we had the sea bass which was perfectly cooked and paired with chick peas and sun chokes and citrus. Great flavor profiles there too!
The service was excellent as well! Our server was great!! Looking forward to going back again or dinner and brunch!
A perennial family favorite for us. A bit pricey for everyday, and now that we don't live nearby we save it for special occasions. Their Italian dishes are out of this world, both the comfort food and their more innovative creations. The pizzas are superb too. The wait staff knows the wine and beer lists and a sommelier is on hand if you need more info.
Reservations are generally necessary in our experience but you may get lucky as a walk-in.
The appetizers potions were so small, we all started laughing. The portions were too small for the price. The wine prices were higher than the top four dollar restaurants. It’s just too expensive for what they serve. The service was great and the people were nice.
The food and service is reliably good here so I enjoy bringing colleagues here. The service is friendly and efficient so we were able to order and eat in a little over an hour. The room is bright and not noisy so we could converse easily.
The only downside is the parking in this neighborhood which has become worse as the area has developed. I would come more often otherwise.
There were six of us celebrating a birthday. Unfortunately they forgot about the birthday and brought a dessert with a candle after we had eaten our desert which was disappointing.
The service was exceptionally slow - we couldn't seem to get our waiter interested in taking our order - for entrees or dessert without tracking him down - and then the check took forever.
For those prices, I expect a higher level of service.
