Extraordinary experience, beginning to end. We were a little late for our reservation but we were very politely accommodated. It was a lively dining room, that opened up in to a beautiful patio dining area. We chose to have the octopus and calamari appetizer. The octopus was exceptional (according to my wife, who is an octupus conniseur) and my calamari was perfectly crumbed, cooked, and tender. My wife had the cioppino for her main dish and I had the lasagna (based on the recommendation of the diners at the table next to us). It did not disappoint: 12 of the finest layers of pasta, alternately filled with superb cheeese and meat. Exqusite! My wife enjoyed her cioppino: the seafood in it was plentiful and not overcooked. The broth was among her top 3 in the OC. But the real star of the show was desert. Tiramisu. I've travelled all of the world sampling tiramisu as the conclusion of my meal. This tiramisu is now the best! A large, moist, flavorful, desert, with plenty of alchohol. Five stars without a doubt!

Under staffed slow service from beginning to end , really need to dial it in all dishes pretty good except lasagna not good at all , I hope the management team addresses the issues or they won’t last without locals business

Overall it was not a good experience. The service was very slow and the food was marginal at best. One in my party ordered a salad with shrimp and it was served with no shrimp! 2 of the 4 entrees were served 10 minutes before the other 2 were served. The eggplant, which was a signature dish, was fried and way over cooked. We were there 3 hours when it should have taken 1 1/2 hours. We complained to the waiter and he said sorry and the desert was on the house. He never came back to take the order so we paid and left. Laguna Beach is a tough town to survive in the restaurant business so they better get their stuff together or they won’t be open long. Very disappointing.

Piatti delivered great food, service and value. The other two diners who joined me also agreed with this assessment. The only thing I would do differently would be to dine outdoors on the patio, which was not available at the time I made our reservation. Very pleasant ambience outdoors, and you are able to bring your dog.

Piatti is one of our favorite restaurants. We have been to the location in La Jolla many times. So we were very excited to learn that we would have a location so close to our home in Laguna Beach. Now they just opened a couple weeks ago so it is clear they are still working out the kinks. Food- we had the chopped salad which everyone at the table loved. The pork Milanese was also a hit. The lasagna was heavy and dry. The cacia pepe was also dry and the noodles were undercooked so they were a bit dry and hard. Loved our cocktails and woould recommend the Hemingway Daquiri. Ambiance- Lively, fun. The place has a cool vibe, nice lighting and the only complaint would be that it was freezing cold inside. Even the diners at the tables around us commented. Service- While the gentleman who served us was very friendly, the first thing I noticed when he poured our water was that his fingernails were filthy. He then leaned in to the table to ask for our drink order and talk with us a little, and we all recoiled. His breath was so bad it was absolutely stunning. Whoever is in charge of the wait staff should pay closer attention to the people they are sending to their tables to interact with their diners. Dirty fingernails flashing before us every time a drink is served or a plate is delivered does not leave the diner with a positive sense of the cleanliness of the restaurant. Your servers are a representation of your restaurant. Someone needs to have a heart to heart with their Friday evening staff.

Excellent food. Indoors got fairly loud when it got full. Outside preferable. Great service. Parking tough.

My second visit in as many weeks. Sat on the patio I love the food. Octopus appetizer, sea bass crude was excellent. Smoked short rib dinner was fantastic as was the angnolloti pasta. Prices were reasonable. It’s on my list of go to places for a very good Italian dinner experience.

I’m a bit torn. There were definitely some standout moments during our visit, but a few areas fell short. We ordered a bottle of wine, the Caesar salad, and two pastas, the Cacio e Pepe and the Bolognese. The biggest issue for me was the timing of the courses. The salad arrived, and just five minutes later, both pasta dishes came out before we’d even had a chance to really dig into the salad. By the time we got to the pasta, it had already cooled down, which really impacted the overall experience. We didn’t send it back, but it would’ve been nice if someone had checked in to ask whether we wanted everything at once or preferred a more paced-out service. I think the pasta would’ve tasted much better if served hot, and that small adjustment could have made a big difference. That said, they’re newly opened and likely still working through some operational kinks. I’d be open to giving them another try, but I do hope the service improves with time.
