I hadn't been back to Piacere in a couple of years. I used to go about once a week many years ago for lunch. I'm glad I went back, the service was wonderful and the Paella was very good. Overall a great visit, glad to have returned.
I like the convenience and atmosphere. The food is interesting and flavorful. The red wines or not that great.
The food was OK. The service was slow. Meals came before salads. Asked for a bread basket more than once. Never got it although saw other tables had one. The management really needs to get on the wait staff to provide better service. And if there is a delay in the kitchen the diners should be notified.
Forgetful and unapologetic service. Several of us found our food disappointing.
First time back in about a year. Disappointed in the limited menu. Food was good but the service was not good. Servers could use some training. There is more to being a good waiter than just showing up for work. Management needs to pay more attention.
I have been to Piacere for all different occasions and this day really disappointed. Seemed as though they had ceased to care at that hour. Bartender was waitress and we had to ask for Everything! bread, oil for bread, dish for shells, sugar for coffee. And then she acted as though we were demanding-yes, of considerate professional service!
All sides are extra. Our dessert didn't taste right and she asked the chef and he said it was fine. They did not offer to exchange it.
Would not recomnend
Had not been to Piacere in about a year and walked away asking "Why" Absolutely a great experience. Had a table between the bar and the sidewalk which was perfect for people watching and enjoying the cool night air. Ordered the salmon and the beet salad and they were excellent. The beet salad was loaded with beets and was absolutely delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection and served over gnocchi with a mushroom cream sauce. I order salmon pretty much every time I eat out and this was one of the best I've ever had. I will definitely be going back for the salmon and the beet salad. The topping was the live music which was not expected but so much fun. The band was fantastic and the lead singer was amazing. We ended up staying for two hours, never felt rushed to leave our table, actually had an awesome waiter that was super attentive , we loved the entire experience. Piacere moved to the top of my dinner spots in San Carlos.
Good restaurant. Service is generally good, but I have had a couple of just OK nights as well. Food is good, nothing stellar, but works for a casual lunch/dinner. Prices are reasonable.
Always go there & our service is the best & the food is great as well
We ate outside. Food was great. Service was sub par. The waitress was forgetful, inattentive and didn’t think or anticipate what we might need such as a second round of drinks we had to almost beg for after waiting empty for 10-15 min.
Food was ok.
But service was well below expectations
- extremely slow service
- dirty silverware
- undercooked meat
- no water refills
- no bread, despite asking more than once
- repeatedly had to ask for drinks
Food seemed like it had been sitting under a warming lamp for a while. We were indoors and there seemed to be a swarm of flies hovering.
I've been really reluctant to write this review. Piacere has been a go-to place for us for years. It used to be among the top places in San Carlos. But I'm sad to say its gone mediocre. The past few times I've eaten here, the food was just OK. Not bad, but just OK. And the service, while good, hasn't been anything spectacular either (most recent visit is was sub-par).
I'm afraid I'm going to have to give PIacere a pass for a while. I truly hope things improve. The menu is good, the location is good, the ambiance is fine. But I don't go out to a nice restaurant for so-so food. I go out for great food.
My most recent experience was mother's day brunch. The first course was a variety of breads/pastries. It was a Sunday and the farmers market was on. I could have gotten up, walked 15 feet to the stand in the middle of Laurel street, and gotten better pastries. The fruit plate looked like it had been prepared the night before. Again, better looking strawberries at a stand on the street. The french toast was luke-warm at best, and had nothing that was exceptional. If you're going to charge me $45 for a prix-fixe breakfast, it should be great, not so-so.
Sorry Piacere, I'll try you again in a year or so, or when you get new management. But I'm crossing you off my list of go-to's in San Carlos for the time being. I gave you four chances in the past year, each was less than satisfying.
Only offering a brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays which was a disappointment when eating at 1 pm. The lunch menu is not available, so very limited choices. The waitress was very flustered and distracted, and didn't appear to be in sync with the kitchen, but was very pleasant under the circumstances that she was put under. The service appeared to be understaffed. Food was very slow to come out, and was okay, but nothing special. A wrong order of Eggs Florentine was brought out instead of Eggs Benedict, and there was a long wait for the correct order to be made while the other guests ate. Terrible hollandaise sauce which was sour and split, looked more like a poorly made cheese sauce. Mentioned this when the incorrect order was initially brought out, but the second dish was prepared with same split sauce.
This had been our go to nice San Carlos restaurant however the menu choices have changed and not to our liking. Hopefully others will like it but we will not be back.
Service was nice but not very attentive even though it was a very slow night. Drinks were watered down. Sorry to say we cant recommend.
When we arrived for a 7:00 reservation for four, the restaurant was half full and we were taken to the bar where two small round tables were pushed together. When I protested, we were then seated in the dining room. Our server was efficient but the food (with the exception of the calamari) was terrible. Dry risotto, mushy eggplant etc.
I won’t return.
Everything we ordered was very good, the portion was good for sharing and the dessert was just perfectly sweet!!!
What a wonderful dining experience! I can’t wait to return!
Great meal and dining experience! There are other places on Laurel St I like better, but on a busy night at the last minute (we reserved 45 minutes before we ate) ... this is worth a try. Nice menu, tasty food and cocktails!
Food and service were both wonderful. They were able to accommodate our party of 12 with no issues. Will definitely be dining here again!
Happy Hour food and drinks were good--especially the smoked mozzarella flatbread!
Food is always the best and great tasting, awesome staff that is very attentive with you. A must if you never tried and great to go back to if you have.
Enjoyed a lovely Easter dinner here. Food was delicious and service was excellent.
We went with my family for Easter brunch. They had a pre-fixed menu with a good sized selection of entrees. The cinnamon roll and panna cotta were great, but the entrees were just average.
The real downside was the service. We went around 1pm and the wait staff seemed really tired and already a bit checked out for the day. They only filled 4 of our 6 water glasses before walking away and we had to flag down another staff member walking around just to get the other glasses filled. They dropped off our food and after about 5-10 of no one coming back to check on how we were doing, we had to ask another staff member again to find our waitress and remind her that we were still waiting on one of our entrees. They also omitted a couple of the sauces described on the menu, but after having to wait around so long just for standard service, it didn’t seem worth the trouble to ask for anything additional. For $39/person I expected a whole lot better than that.
The bus boys were not attentive at all. Ran out of water a few times and even after asking, they would keep forgetting. Food and location is great, so it’s sad to see the service be subpar.
Easter brunch- pricrfix menu was a bit overpriced for what you got. $39 for half a cinnamon bun, 3 medium pancakes and a chocolate cake - I would have happily traded the chocolate cake for some greens or eggs and potatoes -
We were very happy with the service. We started on the bar side with the doors open to the sidewalk patio. The noise from the patio wasn't too bad, but then a woman walked in with her daughter and sat at the bar. We heard every single word from her even though we were on the opposite side of the room. The combination of her and the outside noise was unbearable. Thankfully our waitress was kind enough to let us move to the restaurant.
The food was delicious and the pricing is fair. If you want a good meal and a good price point, with a quiet setting - go here, but sit in the restaurant.
Very good Italian cuisine. Nice menu. We had the lamb shank, rigatoni with chicken and sausage and the shells with short rib. Portions were large. Really like the short rib pasta and lamb shank. Nice wine list, beer list a little on the short side. Nice ambiance - the dining room is broken up into several small rooms. Large bar area - we'll come back to try Happy Hour (3-6 every day) Nice, solid Italian fare with very good service. OH, the tiramisu was excellent.
Service was slow, and the place was practically empty. And it was very expensive. Lunch was $40 per person. No drinks. Ridiculous.
Very nice food and service for our business dinner. Really liked how flexible it was when we had a larger group attend.
For a Sunday night dinner at 6pm we found the noise level very loud, music was blaring from the bar area and not conducive for having a nice conversation. The couple sitting next to us also mentioned how loud the music was and left without having dessert. Disappointed this visit as usually this place is great.
Very dog friendly.
The caesar salad was not exciting. The Parmesan cheese was not thin or crumbly. It was more like sliced cheese and tasted like Swiss cheese. The croutons were not house made and had no flavor. The appetizer with fava beans had good flavor but had a very runny mozzarella cheese on on top. It was difficult to separate the cheese and enjoy it so it was left on the side of the plate. The spinach ravioli was yummy and the raspberry dessert was absolutely delicious. This is a popular restaurant.
They were able to accommodate my request for a private room. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food was good and was served on a timely manner. Overall great experience and will definitely recommend this place for business meetings and group dining.
On an unusually cold day it was nice to be seated in the dining room near the fireplace. Our waiter was very sweet and he checked on us enough times. The food was good. I had the Bulgar Bowl and a bowl of tomato soup.
My husband had the lamb sandwich which was absolutely delicious and very flavorful. The lamb was cooked perfectly! It came with soup and salad. The tomato basil soup was delicious as was the side salad. I have the Florentine Benedict. They had no flavor even when I added salt and pepper. The English muffin tasted like an uncooked ball of dough. I don't think I have ever had a benedict with hollandaise sauce that had absolutely no flavor! The potatoes were very good. A disappoint me for our anniversary celebration especially with my husband dish having so much flavor.
The only bright spot to my meal was the wonderful service we had. our waitress was really wonderful and very attentive.
Very happy with the service and food.
We went on a double date with my husband’s colleague and his spouse. The restaurant was very accomplished of the fact that we arrived staggered. Esp one person came in almost an hour and a half after the rest of us began.
Food was fine. There was only one veg starter and limited veg main course items. An italian place can do better on this. Food sat really heavy on my tummy the next day. Decent wine selection and cocktails.
Place got super loud towards the end, almost as if they were trying to make us leave with the music. And this was a weeknight.
Biggest issue - service. Our server approached us twice before we were ready to order, then completely disappeared on us. We had to repeatedly signal for someone to take our order when we were actually ready to order. She also forgot to send us the cheque. Very awkward and non intuitive of guests.
