Petros Santa Barbara Ratings and Reviews
THIS RESTAURANT HAD TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!! YOUR DINNER PLANS MIGHT GET CANCELLED!!
At first I called the restaurant and nobody picked up, so I got a voicemail saying that I should leave a message letting them know my reservation info or I should make a reservation through Open Table. I decided to make a reservation for this restaurant through Open Table for July 26 at 6:30 pm. After doing so I got a confirmation email saying that my reservation was set. So my friends and I come to the restaurant and it turns out that THE RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED. BUT NOBODY ON THE PHONE OR YELP TOLD US THAT. A woman standing near the restaurant saw our confused faces and told us that she also made a reservation for this restaurant without any knowledge that it was closed. Soooo, long story short, this restaurant ended up messing up multiple people's dinner plans because they failed to tell us that the restaurant was closed, yet they still allowed us to make reservations online.
It's a shame because it seems like a very nice restaurant, but after this experience I don't think my friends and I will ever come back.
WE were VERY disappointed, I made the Open Table res and even called the restaurant to lv specifics on their vm. I have always loved Petros before.
Their VM said they were open Tues thru Sunday BUT when we got to restaurant it was CLOSED, and looked like they were no longer there!! Poor management.
WHY wasn't their closure (temporary or otherwise)communicated to OPEN TABLE and put on their vm?? We were very disappointed as were looking forward to a Greek dinner. Diners beware!
I made a reservation for a party of 12 for a birthday dinner. We were unable to eat at Petros because there was a large wedding reception going on at the same time. I was very disappointed and upset; if you are unable to accommodate a reservation, you should not take reservations.
Petros is no longer a restaurant in Santa Barbara and OpenTable's database was not even updated. Petros just hosts weddings and other types of group events, but no longer a restaurant. It was very embarrassing since OpenTable accepted our reservation and we got there the doors were locked.
BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. I made reservations months in advance as we were traveling to California for vacation. We arrived at the restaurant only to find out they had rented the whole place out for a wedding. We could have gone there the night before had we known. There is no excuse for using Open Table for your reservation service and then not notifying your patrons when there is a change of plans. I was so disappointed as I really wanted to try this place. I have read many reviews afterwards that said the same thing happened to them. Very sad way to run a business. ICING ON THE CAKE, the next morning we traveled up to their other location on the way to Paso Robles for breakfast and THAT LOCATION was not open at the time stated on their website and on the door of restaurant. UNBELIEVABLE.
We have always loved Petros, and this time was no disappointment. The food and ambiance are terrific and Dimitri and his staff are very attentive. I was a little upset to see that some of the items that we ordered were not the same as they appear on the menu, but the overall experience as terrific. We look forward to coming back!
Went there for my husband's birthday, just two of us. Of all the tables only four were taken. Specifically asked the hostess to arrange a birthday candle when it comes to the desert. The husband didn't actually want to order a desert but I pretended I really wanted ilsome, knowing there would be a surprise for him. Guess what? Not only did it take them forever to bring the bakhlava with a spoon of ice cream which he eventually ordered, but there was no candle there in it! The food was good, I admit it. But the service sucks, especially given the prices. So, as much as I like Greek food, don't want to go there again.
It was miserable. Our waiter was the manager. He didn't ask if we wanted drinks and when I asked our group if anyone wanted a drink, he joked it was too early for drinks but then actually left without waiting for us to order. We ordered and got our appetizers but then no one took our lunch order. We asked for him to take our food order which he did. However an hour later we were still waiting for our food. I walked around to look for him and gently reminded him that we had been waiting an hour. (It was actually an hour and ten minutes) He told me this was not a fast food restaurant. I couldn't believe it, an hour? Anyway, most of the food came soon after, except for my husbands, his came later still. My food was barely lukewarm. The food, unlike the service, was actually good. For dessert we again had to ask for desert menus. While we were mulling over these, he brought over two desserts for our table to share. That was a nice gesture but it didn't make up for the awful experience up to that point
There was no experience because Open Table failed to remove availability for reservations for Petros because it was closed due to a private party. I found out one week before the reservation by chance as this was grad weekend and I wanted to make an attendees adjustment. Later, I received calls from the restaurant confirming two days and one day before the original reservation date. They were calling all customers because Open Table did not close it. Petros was frustrated by this experience with Open Table. I would not be surprised if people showed up expecting they had a reservation but were likely turned away. It was a great inconvenience to me as I had to find another restaurant on graduation weekend where virtually all restaurants were booked up. Corrective actions by Open Table would be needed to prevent this type of occurrence. As a result of this experience I would hesitate on using Open Table in the future.
None of my choices apply as it was the only way to submit my comments.
Very disappointed from start to finish! Slow and Poor service, food was mediocre. It took 1.5 hours to serve our dinner party, they never replenished our breads or waters and when asked what the delay was in getting our meals , we were told that their grill is very small. What kind of excuse was that? All we could do was wait, I was extremely embarrassed and frustrated for my guests as we were celebrating a milestone college graduation. The worst part of the experience was being charged the 20% inclusive tip! I have been in the food industry for over 15 years, as a courtesy perhaps waiving this fee would have been the best customer service. We will never return.
Showed up with 10 of us for dinner for a special event for a friend (birthday) and they had a private event going on so we had to be sent away. I did not receive a call or email informing us our reservation was cancelled. They referred us to a restaurant down the street, which was below average. Very disappointed and a damper on our special evening for sure.
Made a reservation on Open Table for party of nine. Called day of to see if we could add to party, and was informed by staff member that they were taking no reservations that night as they had booked a private wedding party. Our dinner was a PhD graduation celebration for me, a colleague, family & friends--so also a special occasion and the reason we booked ahead for a large party. VERY disappointed that restaurant hadn't thought to keep Open Table informed of reservation status. This has never happened to me on Open Table before. We were forced to find a restaurant for a party of 12 at last minute which was an overpriced and awful experience rather than a celebration of nine years of graduate school. I rated Petros as "good" for everything rather than poor as I never ate there, and I'm sure Petros is a fine restaurant and didn't want to bring down their average unfairly. HOWEVER, double-check if you try to reserve with them on Open Table.
Not many interesting options for vegetarians. They can cook basically whatever you order but you have to know what you want beforehand since going over the menu won't help.
The food my SO and I ordered was really good. We both had a SPANAKOPITA each and we shared a DIP COMBO with one replaced dip so it's vegetarian friendly.
We also had desert. BAKLAVA (which was ok, too sweet for my taste) and another thing which has a custard/pudding filling (which was amazing and so worth it!).
We paid $55 with tip, which is not cheap or expensive in SB.
Not sure I'd come back. They can accommodate vegetarians if you have an idea of what you want. But if you want to try something new, which was my intention, then it's not very good since most Greek dishes on the menu have meat and they don't offer to replace meat for something else (at least they didn't offer to me but could have been a failure in communication I guess). In any case, if you end up there, I'm sure the food will be good.
After having enjoyed Petros in Los Olivos, CA, this was disappointing. The bread was served with nothing to put on it; we had to ask for olive oil or butter. The other Petros serves a wonderful garlic spread with the bread. Our food was very good, but the waitress was not friendly and we had to get her attention every time we needed something...she was not watching her tables and only had two to watch!!
This was my first time eating at Petros and I was really looking forward to it. We sat outside and the venue was beautiful so I was excited. Unfortunately, the service was so bad that everything else was tainted. It took 25-30 mins for someone to even come over to take a drink order and we had to flag them down. We were heading to the Arlington for a show and had a finite amount of time, and we told them that when the manager finally came over. So, he totally rushed everything and took food orders before drinks. The wine came so late that we had to slam it. Then, when it was time to pay out, again no one was around and we had to walk a credit card inside and ask them to payout. We were so annoyed that I don't even remember the food. It's such a beautiful venue too, such a waste.
We showed up early and they were more than accommodating!
The waiter was a treasure and sold us both on the special. Chilean Sea Bass and it was delicious.
Only disappointment was the saganaki wasn't lit at the table. It's just not as fun without the little show.
All the food was wonderful and we enjoyed being there early enjoying the quiet.
What a magnificent dinner we enjoyed, pre-theatre! We had a reservation, but someone helping the host had accidentally given away the table reserved for our party of 4, to a couple. The place was packed, and it was too cold to eat on the patio (this was last winter but I wanted to finally give a review). The lovely hostess worked some magic, and produced an extraordinary, private table -- and we enjoyed an excellent dinner with notable wine. And the waiter was a hoot. Everything authentic. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I love this restaurant. If you love lamb this is a great place to go. They have many other delicious looking options as well (I just can't stop myself from ordering the lamb). There is nice wine list and for an appetizer I recommend the tray of various dips with pita. Wonderful flavors! The patio is my favorite place to sit with a nice indoor-outdoor feel right on State Street, but inside is very nice as well. Don't go here for a quick meal. The service is more European style with spacing between courses and an unhurried feel. Reminds me of wonderful meals I've had in Greece!
It was a SBIFF night with a big tribute event across the street. It was louder and more crowded than our usual evening at Petros but the food is always Excellent , the service friendly and efficient and we return regularly.
Again, we love Petros, it is under attended by locals for no reason I can imagine.
