Chef Staffan Terje strives to cook the finest food reflecting the Italian regions of Piemonte and Liguria. Handcrafted, house-made salumi, prosciutto and other charcuterie are not to be missed. Seasonal pastas, a tradition in Piemonte, range from the traditional ravioli to the more exotic agnolotti. Main courses feature dishes such as stuffed quail breast, a selection of seafood dishes, and vegetarian options.

We loved it.
Lots of good choices. We will be back.
We celebrated our anniversary at Perbacco. My partner has a variety of dietary limitations. The staff were very accommodating and even replaced a side order of vegetables to make it more flavorful. Everyone treated us well and we were made to feel that we were regular customers even though this was the first time at the restaurant. We had an early reservation and we never felt any pressure to give up the table, so we could enjoy our celebratory meal. The sommelier was very helpful in finding an older wine that could pair with our meals and was within our budget. Dishes were well presented and flavorful without being heavy. I especially enjoyed the triangoli (triangle) pasta with a generous portion of truffle shavings. Even when the restaurant was full, the noise level was reasonable and we could carry on a normal conversation. We will be returning.
Also a fabulous evening with exceptional food and wine. Our favorite Italian in San Francisco.
We go to Perbacco with some frequncy and always enjoy it. On this trip the restaurant went out of its way to take care of several requests we made about seating, food, and a special occasion. All as done with grace and the food was up to standard as always.
A great restaurant over years. Always on my list of places to go if you are visiting San Francisco.
Good atmosphere, service and food!
The first time in ages that I’ve gone to a popular “in” restaurant, expected it to live up to its reputation and not been disappointed! Very elegant place, great service and wonderful food. (One of our party got up to use the facilities and left his napkin on his chair. He hadn’t been gone a minute before a wait person appeared out of nowhere, picked up the napkin, folded it and placed it on the table it in front of his seat.). A word to the wise: like most contemporary restaurants, the noise level in the main dining room is quite high, so if like me you’re hard of hearing, ask to be seated upstairs.
Thank you for seating us at a relatively quiet table! Our server was excellent and everything was tastefully presented.
We always enjoy Perbacco and make it a point to have dinner whenever we visit San Francisco. The wine selection is excellent, the food is top quality and well presented, and the service is friendly and efficient. One feels the price was just right for the excellent meal.
Always consistent, great wine list, creative southern Italian cuisine
Over priced restaurant with mediocre food.
Perbacco has great pasta and the food is great. My issue is more service related, I came with my wife and 2 young well behaved kids for a 5:30 early dinner. The waitress seemed annoyed that we weren’t a business meal ordering 3 bottles of wine. We still ordered 2 apps and 4 mains with a couple drink but the waitress seemed inattentive and “over it” from the second we sat down.
I loved my Octopus dish. The Octopus was very tender and it was served over just the right amount of mashed potato. The accompanying arugula with balsamic dressing was perfect. I was happy that there was no parmesan on that dish. Almost every item on the menu has parmesan in or on it. I like that cheese on some dishes, but not on the Carne Crudo I had.
Great for an upscale yet reasonably priced night out! Pasta dishes were delicious but we did find quite a bit of oil at the bottom of the plate once finished. The appetizers were great as well, and service was excellent! They also had an extensive wine menu.
My favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco. Umberto and staff are always gracious and welcoming.
Food wasn’t great... service was terrible. Options were lacking. We tried two apps, three entrees and a dessert. Nothing was even mediocre.
Everything was perfect! We arrived early and were seated at our table.
Server, Kris, was great. We took a friend from out of town who really knows wine. He was very impressed with the wine list. He chose an excellent Barolo. My husband's minestrone was the best I have every tasted. Vitello Tonnato and duck were super. Chocolate chestnut gelato amazing. All of us loved the meal.
Perbacco is very conveniently located in the Financial district - it has a pleasant and lively atmosphere - the food is pretty good, not great - but the service is good and overall an enjoyable experience.
Fantastic food and wine. Food presentation is well done and the food is remarkably affordable given the high quality.
We had a fun birthday dinner here last week. Everything was delicious and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. They easily moved us to a larger table when we found we needed to add one more guest last
minute. Overall a lovely experience.
It's so noisy, you can barely hear your guest across the table.
Only minor complaints
Bread server never returned
Steep stairway to restrooms dimly lit and dangerous will eventually cause serious legal problems for owner after someone is injured or dies.
Always amazing food and attentive service. Very responsive to special requests.
Saturday night weekend celebration
Really like the interiors and the bar area. The reason for this is low rating is the lack of gluten-free friendly pastas / desserts and the ultra slow service. Most importantly, the food didn't blow us away..
We were celebrating an anniversary and appreciated the warm wishes and the greeting card about the same (though a glass of wine or bites with complements, would've been much more welcome, and appropriate)
We were really looking forward to this meal. We travel a fair bit and as a result I will admit we are not the easiest to please as far as food goes. Nothing we ordered here was bad, though most things were not thrilling either. We really enjoyed the Tajarin sauce.
However I was very disappointed to learn that they weren't carrying many gluten free pasta choices. The waiter was also unsure what was available.
I'd heard such good things about this place and noting the ambience and price point of the establishment I would hope they make hand cut fresh made gluten free pasta as well, since they provide this to regular diners as well. For gluten free folks they provide pre packaged pasta but still charge prices as though it's freshly made. This is unfair and unacceptable to us.
Our risotto was under cooked.
It also took them eons to take our order (granted it was a busy night, but really, isn't that to be expected on a Saturday?) and more time still to bring the food. Our dinner lasted 3 hours. First food came after an hour and half of waiting. Their were also no gluten free bread / breadsticks alternatives offered at the beginning.
Perhaps I've been spoilt by Del Posto (NYC) and continue to hold every Italian fine dining experience up to those standards. Whatever it may be, Perbacco miserably failed in creating a memorable experience for us.
Great food - relatively reasonably priced. Great service.
Service at the bar before dinner was slow it was hard to get the attention of the bartenders. Dining experience was outstanding. Food was excellent, service was great and wine recommendations did not disappoint.
The hostess was not very welcoming, but our server although not as knowledgeable as one would hope did try to answer questions for us. Maybe just lack of experience for both people
Food, ambiance, and service was all very good! Thank you for the great dining experience!
Nice dining experience. Excellent service, very good food, good value. Highly recommended.
Moms night out
Not your red sauce joint...,buttery rich Piedmont style Italian dishes. Interesting pastas. Great happy hour for a quick bite and a drink.
Great food, great service, Lisa is the greatest bartender in my universe, try the beef cheeks, great wine selection. This restaurant has earned a Tony the Tiger exultation.
Great place to eat
This place has figured out the formula. Great space, menu, execution, service and value.
This is a fun restaurant but there are not many dairy and/or gluten free options. To most people, this will not matter, but to me it does
First time to dine here under a recommendation as we were celebrating a birthday. Dinner was fabulous!!
superb Italian here... wonderful Pasta - recommended highly !
Loud dining area but lovely service and the food was worth the price.
I’m a regular but this experience was disappointing. My chicken was like cardboard.
