We are inspired by the vibrant, fresh produce of Northern California. Per Diem’s offerings of rich flavors and 20th century décor will entice patrons looking for social meeting quarters or a savored dining experience.
Great helpful servers!
First time visit for lunch. Our table had the Tuna Nicoise Salad, Strawberry Barley Salad, Free Range Chicken Sandwich and the Confit Albacore Tuna Sandwich. All dishes were very good. Service was fantastic. Definitely plan to visit Per Diem again in the future.
Had a 11:45am reservation and was running late. Called them at 11:30 and go a VM staying that they do not check the phone during service time. Left a VM anyway. Arrived at 12.05 and was told that my reservation had been cancelled. I explained that I did try and let them know I was running late and was eventually seated at a cramped two top in the bar area (versus the upstairs). When I asked if it was possible to be seated upstairs I was told that "that area is for people who keep their reservations." Very very rude. I have dined here many times previously but will not plan to go back.
We had the mussels and spring vegetable flatbread. Both were good but the flatbread was particularly so, as the vegetables had a fresh delightfully vibrant taste, the goat cheese was perfectly cooked and the crust was exactly the correct amount of “crunchy”. We had beer and wine to accompany. The waitress was very good, friendly, attentive and efficient.
Love the healthy salads and the variety of options. Well presented and speedy service.
Great food, service, and atmosphere. My only gripe is how cramped everything is (this is kind of just SF in general though)
Food was great. Cocktails were stellar. Service was very good. Would definitely come back.
Great lunch spot. Nice decor and delicious sandwiches.
Great place for a business meal or cocktail.
Per Diem is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. We were celebrating a birthday this past Tuesday and found ourselves still raving about the tri-tip sandwich later on back at the office.
We hope to get back soon.
Food was great. Shareable for us light eaters
No wine by bottle was disappointing. I indicated we were celebrating a special birthday in the reservation, but no acknowledgement by wait staff or restaurant. Think they could of offered free dessert, candle or just said happy birthday. What is the point of including in reservation then? Food was very good, but everything else about experience was just ok. Probably won’t go back. With prices they charge, was expecting a little something more.
My out-of-town guests were expansive in their compliments on the restaurant after attending a Salesforce event. They had been visiting San Francisco for four days and, their experience at Per Diem was their best dinner out.
Thanks Per Diem.
Came with two friends for dinner. We ordered the mussels and meatballs for starters + mushroom pasta and scallops for mains to share between the three of us. The mussels were great (and huge), the meatballs were just okay, the mushroom pasta was fantastic (hello, truffle seasoning!), and the scallops were well-prepared. It was a fairly busy night, but staff were attentive and friendly.
Excellent food, beautiful decor, tasty cocktails, slow service
The restaurant was FREEZING cold! Sitting down I was constantly warming my hands under my body. The food was great- pricey, but I had a business lunch here and it is a great location for a business lunch. There is good ambience and cozy decor but it was something I could not enjoy completely as I was shivering the entire time. I hardly remember how the mushroom pasta tasted because it was so cold I the room.
I felt like i was in a library from the 1870’s , in a cool way!! Great date night place but more importantly , the food was awesome! We had the squid ink pasta and it had the most flavorful sauce we have ever had on squid ink. Delish.
Food was great. Mushroom pasta, beet salad, shrimp cocktail. Pasta serving could have been larger. No bread is offered. Food came almost too quickly from the kitchen. Custom mixed drinks were excellent. Dessert choices were few, but chocolate pot de crime was very good.
Love this place and keep coming back over the years. Atmosphere is cozy and classy, the food has never been less than delicious, as are the drinks. Had the best service on New Year’s eve, and they didn’t overbook the place... had the best time. This place is a sure thing, just make a reservation to be sure.
Squid ink spaghetti was way too salty
Decent Happy Hour menu and cozy to sit around the bar area. The dining area is warm and the service in both the bar and dining area are excellent. Friendly, without being pushy, with attention to detail.
It was kind of cold by the door
Sadly this time at Per Diem was just awful. Have eaten here many times. Was once one of my go-to places in SF. But sadly, no more after my most recent experience. The entree arrived cold. The mashed potatoes tasted like they just came out of the refrigerator. And the beef short rib was only luke warm and was so salty I couldn’t finish it. The most disappointing part of this is that none of the wait staff cared. No one bothered to stop by after they dropped off the food. No one came back to check in. The person who removed the plates never even asked me why I didn’t eat my food. It was basically going back to the kitchen in the same quantity as it came out. Only even colder. We have written them off. Ever since Arnie left the place has gone downhill. Never saw a more apathetic group of millennials who really don’t give a sh*t about what they’re doing or if customers are actually happy. So sad to see this place go. It’s become an overpriced tourist trap. Good riddance. )-:
We had the wild mushroom pasta and it was excellent.
This is my go to place in the Financial District to meet with a friend and catch up. The bar downstairs is noisy but upstairs it's comfortable and warm and just the perfect place to settle in and have a good talk. Delicious food and the "Manhattan Project" where you can mix your own Manhattan make this place special.
Upstairs is much better than downstairs from a noise perspective. It's an intimate setting with great ambient lighting
The food was a bit salty but they manage to tone it down for us. Overall, it is good and enjoyable!
Fantastic restaurant with a great seasonal menu. Whenever I come to San Francisco, I will try to make a point of stopping in for dinner and drinks.
Atmosphere, food, drink, service exceeded expectations for the price paid! Thank you! Can’t wait to come back.
It’s a comfort restaurant, and everything was spot on! Mushroom pasta for me, and a great burger for my friend!
Just as advertised. Warm and welcoming!
Great place to get a drink after work or stay for dinner. I have ate there a couple times and the food is wonderful.
Great selection for lunch. Was quick - we were in an out in about 45 minutes. Nice decor, reasonably priced. A good place to bring someone for lunch.
Would definitely consider coming back for dinner
Too dark so I would not recommend for business lunch.
Food was very good with a nice upstairs dining room. Bar was cool and drinks fashionable. One problem in the bar upholstery was torn near window sitting.
Hadn't been for some time, we enjoyed a lovely dinner celebrating the marriage of two friends. Everyone was very pleased with their choices and our server Kimberly was terrific, friendly, fun and prompt.
My preference is upstairs with added ambience and reduced noise levels. Will definitely make my next visit shorter
By far the best food I have had in SF two years in a row. Everything about this place is perfect. Decor, ambiance, service, food, fair pricing etc. you cannot go wrong with this place.
Great place downtown. Varied menu of good food and excellent service.
Great food...great service. It was very loud for a business lunch. Nice atmosphere but probably not ideal for formal conversation.
Cozy setting and delicious food! We shared several appetizers and added some drinks! Really enjoyed the variety of what we ordered!
