Great Karoo Lamb Chops
4 lamb chops, lemon juice, peli herb mix, homemade mint sauce
Traditional Portuguese dish, garlic herb butter, basted chicken, onions, sauted baby spinach, roasted red potatoes, carrot bredie, no additional sides
South African Eggs Benedict
Crispy mieliepap, homemade biltong, poached, eggs, hollandaise sauce
Prefer the old menu. Also lunch is more expensive. Before lunch was three medallions with 3 sauces and two sides. Now only one sauce and one side. Seems it was $18 before and now it’s $22 for less food. Still love the food but miss what had gotten accustomed to.
Great food, great service, great ambiance! Will definitely return!
Great food and service. Lighting was weird. My eyes reacted to the dark colors.
I’ve always enjoyed Peli Peli. The food is consistently excellent, as are the service and atmosphere.
This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years and still is. However, it seems to be loosing its edge. The service isn't as crisp as it once was and the facility is starting to show wear and tear, including a lot of burned out light bulbs. As for the food, it is still very good.
Great meal. Unlike many restaurants, has very good vegetarian options. The Curried Spaghetti Squash was amazing!
The bartender started the evening off excellent with the cucumber martini and the waiter Josh really set the tone for the evening with a couple of great recommendations on the wine and apps! Overall the food wasnt quite as good overall as the last time I was there but the service was some of the best I've ever had!
I used the OpenTable link to make these reservations and requested a private room as this was a business meeting. They did not get a private room and it made the overall experience a negative one for them. I gave a Poor Rating on the survey.
Loved it! It was really really good. It was really great that I could get a reservation at the exact time I wanted.
Bar menu was very misleading and I did speak with the manager and told him my thoughts. I ordered a GIN Martini on the rocks and was told it would be $13 + $3 for a single or $16 + $3 for a double. I pointed out that the menu reads GIN $13 single & $16 double depending on the gin ordered. I was told if you get a Martini there is a $3 up charge. #1 - The price of a Vintage Park Martini should not be $16 or $19. Those are NY City prices. #2 - There should be no up charge for olives and a pinch of VERMOUTH. Based on this pricing, I ordered an Old Fashoned (good not great) and a Margarita (good but not great) which was on sale. At the end of the night, I paid way too much for food and booze (including two glasses of house Cab). I remember the good old days when there was Happy Hour and we could walk out for under $30 total.
Really enjoyed the experience. The food was incredible. The servers are very knowledgeable and more than happy to answer any questions you may have. I would definitely recommend it for a special occasion.
Always a fabulous dining experience here. Service was great and food was great. Will be coming back again soon.
After 8 years away from Houston, I was excited to come back and enjoy this outstanding restaurant. The food was even better than I remembered!
I am loyal to Peli Peli and it never disappoints! That is what keeps me coming back. Brandon our waiter was so great. Excellent customer service skills, knowledgeable about the menu and he has very attentive to our needs regardless of the language barrier from my guests. He was very culturally sensitive and made sure our food was made to it's best. Thank you Brandon for making my mother's birthday brunch such a wonderful experience!
Peli Peli is still a great venue. Menu changes since the changes in leadership do not live up in quality. I was disappointed to see torn and worn out booths during our visit. I would like to see better upkeep. It cheapens the experience, especially for the price that is being charged.
Cold coffee served, out of item ordered and had to ask to turn music down. Very disappointed. Our foodie group will not return.
Valentines date with my wife. We really didn’t know what to expect. Never have we tried South African food before. It started out a little shaky for us at the bar while waiting to be seated. The bartender seemed like he was ignoring us. We had to actually stop a manager to order our drinks for the bartender to make them. I feel if we hadn’t done that he would have served other people that came after us. Once we were seated our waitress Chase was super nice and informative. You can say she saved the night for us. She gave recommendations at our request and really broke down the menu to us. The food was amazing. Far better that what I was expecting. We will definitely be back.
We have been eating at the Vintage Park location since Chef Paul opened the first Peli Peli years and years ago. We went Saturday for Valentines Day weekend. We had an early reservation at 6:30pm. The process to check in was slow and seemed like they could only handle one thing at a time on an iPad device and was a bottleneck even though not crowded. Our server was Brendan (spelling?) and he was very polite and attentive. However several issues throughout the evening. We had appetizers but were waiting for wine to enjoy with them. When the entrees came out the order was not what my wife requested. A delay while they prepared the correct steak. My crusted Chilean sea bass was over cooked and came with very little sides (small portion of slaw with a couple of legumes for $47.) We were disappointed that many of our long time favorites are no longer available like the Peli Peli salad, Chilean sea bass (this was a special event serving only and not the original, etc.) My wife ordered a glass of Malbec for dinner and it was the only one listed under Malbec available by the glass at $13. We were brought another Malbec for $15 that was under another heading. Felt like we were not treated right and should never have to worry about this. This was likely our last visit. It has continued decline in nearly every aspect. We have brought many people here for their first visit and always thought of it as our special place but those days are behind us now. New owners and managers need to get their hands around this quickly instead of trying to open more locations and squeeze out faves for more profits which is apparently their current strategies.
If I remember correctly our servers name was Collins. Great hand shack. He was awesome... Polite, professional, very knowledgeable of the food and restaurants history. He also applied a veterans discount to our meal without us asking. We will be returning and hopefully sit in his section. Two thumbs up!!!
Loved it Loved it Loved it Loved it Loved it Loved it Loved it Loved it
The only disappointment was the reservation, I’m sure you heard this already....This was a surprise for my wife, she is from SA.... When you make reservation on a certain time, you think you will be seated at that time.... very crowded when you first come in, there was one female trying to check people in, I feel for her but when We finally got seated, everything else was great and the waitress was awesome
Valentine’s Day experience at Peli Peli was overall good. Restaurant was very packed and a rather lengthy wait due to the many reservations. But we were accommodated with a free glass of champagne and shown to a private area in the back, which was much more quiet and intimate!
We arrived 30 minutes prior to our 8:30 PM reservation but the host stated they did not need reservation info and took my info from scratch? The waiting area was quite empty at the time. We were told there would be a 25 minute wait. By 8:30 PM it was a madhouse with a crowd of 15-20 people surrounding the hostess station. We were finally texted at around 8:45 PM but could not get to the hostess counter due to the surrounding crowd. There was only a single hostess and no one assisting with seating the tables. While standing with the rest of the group who had been texted with tables ready I caught the manager who seemed to be completely overwhelmed. I asked him who we were supposed to inform the table was ready and who was sitting tables but only received an I'm sorry and he understood. I then explained that they had no specific lines for incoming patrons nor a line for seating. Rather than taking control and getting some organization to the cluster I just received a blank look. My wife finally caught a waiter in the hallway who apologized and took us to be seated. A nearly 20 minute wait after being called for your table and who knows how much longer had we not found a go-getter on the wait staff. Even more comical was when we entered the table area half the tables were empty with staff waiting. I normally don't post on these things but it was a complete breakdown and on all days, Valentines Day. Definitely was not worth the $200 we spent, but hey at least they had Blanton's Bourbon!
The only reason this review didn't receive 5 stars across the board is due to the fact that my wife and I waited 30 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. There isn't much point to a reservation if you don't have a seat reserved. Other than that, the food was wonderful and delicious, the service was spot on, Jazz did a wonderful and satisfactory job. Peli Peli helped give my Wife and I a Happy Valentines Day. Well done!! and thank you
Amazing!!! Wonderful ambiance, fantastic staff, and decadent food!!! This place is a must do!!!
Service was terrible, food mediocre, sat us on a cold patio.
The Chilean Sea Bass was EXCELLENT! We also had the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was so great! This was a Valentines Day dinner. Service and food were both great!
Service was great Kalvin our waiter was amazing. Carrots came out cool and the food took a while , but it’s a holiday and they were busy. Never had those issues on any other night.
We went on Valentine's Day. We were seated in what I think was their event space set up for overflow space rather than the main dining room. So the ambiance was probably a little below their typical set up.
The special Valentine's menu listed happy hour until 7:00, but the waiter said they didn't have happy hour that night. Not a big deal, but a little disappointing.
I had the seared scallops with the corn succotash. The scallops were on the small side and kind of gritty. Overall, just ok. The succotash was very good.
My wife had the beef espetada. The presentation was very cool-- kind of a hanging skewer. The beef had a good flavor, but was a little on the tough side. The sides were a legume dish that looked and tasted like green beans and a carrot dish that tasted like mashed sweet potatoes. Both were fine, but nothing to write home about.
For dessert, we got the sticky toffee pudding. It didn't read the description and was expecting more of a creme brulee type dish. It was more of a spice cake with ice cream (which is what the menu said). Not my favorite, but my fault for not reading the menu.
I ordered a cappuccino, but the I guess their milk frother was broken. It was decent but without the frothy top.
Overall, a forgettable meal. Everything was fine, but not great. This was my second time at Peli Peli and my wife's first. I was a lot more impressed with my first trip. I'm guessing it was mediocre because it was Valentine's and they were busy. We'll give them another chance one of these days.
Not a Fan of the Very limited Valentine’s Day menu. We only wanted the tiger prawns and again they didn’t have them. We could have went to Fogo de Chao for what we paid.
“Somewhat Disappointed and Dissatisfied “
Nice Valentines dinner. It was a fixed menu and we would have liked more options but the food was good and the waitress was personable and responsive.
Something happened I usually order lamb chops ( since years a go) but this time wasn’t a same flavor
Valentines Dinner with my husband. Food was delicious as always. We had a great waiter! We were in a room off the side and it was not as loud as it usually is in the main room which was really nice. Great experience!
I was put off by the way the greeter spoke to me. She called me a liar in regards to my reservation
This is my 3rd time dining at Peli Peli. The food is always good. It is one of those few restaurants where you can sit and enjoy your food in between courses. I never feel rushed. The servers are always friendly and attentive. I'll be back.
Liked everything except the strip steak and fries.
Drinks took a long time
Salads served before appetizers
Brought some friends that had never been before. They were up to trying something new and they really enjoyed it. We had reservations and were sat right when we got there even though we were a bit early. Appetizers, drinks and entree were very good as always.
Unfortunately in NW Houston we do not have any Great Restaurants, we do have a few good restaurants and Peli Peli is among the few. If you order a salad, make sure you hold off on ordering your entree until you're almost done with the sale, unless you're in a rush.
Many servers do not seem to understand the need to check on their customers if they have appetizers or a salad before they put in the customers entree order to the kitchen.
We do find the restaurant to be a bit noisy, very high ceilings and nothing to absorb sound is the cause., and we know some people will not go to a restaurant that is this noisy, so beware or go early before it gets crowded.
