Food and staff are outstanding! A hidden gem in the downtown area! Ask to view their venue for special events! New bar menu is very welcoming.
Shrimp and grits was great! On the spicy side so be prepared. Short ribs were a winner. Corn chowder soup also excellent. Service was attentive without being to bothersome. Overall a great experience.
We had a great dinner at the Pearl....the short rib was fantastic and so were the shrimp and grits!

Jeffry was our waiter and he was FABULOUS! Excellent service and well crafted martini. I was a little s disappointed that there were no other customers with us, the place was empty. Jeffry explained that it is hit and miss during the week but that on the weekends they are always busy.

Breakfast was good. Everything was as ordered, hot, and tasted good. It was not out of this world. Service was good, but I had to wait a couple of times for our server. The ambiance was very good.
Wish this place was better! The service was great but the food was just mediocre at best. Steak overdone, oysters flavorless, rest of food just okay. Cocktails were good though so I’d recommend the bar!
We had a wonderful time, and will hopefully dine here once (or so) a month.

This place is awesome! The server David was on top of everything the whole time. The cook Robert did an amazing job and the food was delicious! Will be back again and will be recommending!
An excellent and inventive take on bouillabaisse with seafood tasting straight out of the ocean, and the freshest salad I've eaten. Served with intelligence and cheerfulness in a quiet and pleasant place. What could be better?
You should designate on your reservations the the restaurant is not open on Sunday. When the reservation was made it gave no indication that the only seating available would be in the bar area.
We had the NY Eve fixed menu. The food was only mediocre

Short Ribs are to die for- excellent! Seafood - excellent!
Salads - average. Overall - enjoyable!

Very disappointing. The good reviews were not an accurate account of our experience. Billed as a romantic setting, came off more like a country club feel. We were the only people in the place and for good reason. My friend ordered the sea bass, but 10 minutes later we were told there was none available. I know restaurants run out of items, but the server should have know. Unfortunately, the blackened grouper was awful. The blackening spice was mostly chili powder which completely killed the flavor of the fish. She ate only a few bites. We didn’t complain and the server didn’t question. Oh well, off the find something much better.
Food was subpar for a Houston. Low on flavor. Creative options but just no flavor. I was expecting better.

Amy was amazing! Knowledgeable and paid attention to every little detail. She recommended wine to pair with our entrees and offered a complimentary glass when the dessert we ordered wasn’t available. She made the experience WONDERFUL and we felt very taken care of! When we were leaving the hotel the next day she saw us and remembered us and waived and wished us a great day. She made our experience memorable for a great date night!
Alot of meal delays. We were here early, but seemed there were a lot of miss steps on service here today for just 2 people ordering apps, drinks (no-alcohol), and meals. When food did arrive it was great. We were there about an hour and a half about double the time expected. One member was almost done with their meal while I was still waiting for salad. Food was great though and I'm hoping it was just an off day. Give them a try, as I said, food was great.
We had a lovely experience at our first visit to The Pearl. Our waitress was attentive, the food was fresh and cooked perfectly, and most importantly, delicious!
We came to the pearl for my mother in laws birthday. We all loved our meals, service, and drinks! I will definitely return for a date night, or even just for cocktail hour at the lovely bar across the hall from the restaurant. Thank you for a great night!

Good location. Food was tasty but half the menu shown through open table was not available with no explanation of why. Our server did her best but was outmatched for a busy Friday night concert crowd. Seemed like the entire place was under staffed and unprepared for such an event.
Due to management's unwillingness to add a bartender and a couple of waiters to their staff for a sold out night when the eagles were appearing down the street, they managed to make this an unpleasant experience for everyone in the restaurant and bar. 30 minute wait for our first drink and the second drink never came. Very slow service due to understaffing. Shame on the management of the Pearl for not having sufficient wait staff to meet the known demand of a sold out night at the restaurant and bar.
The 4 of us were going to MMP for a concert and restaurants close we're filling up quickly. I made our reservation over a week in advance and noted that we we're heading to the concert so that the staff knew we'd be on a time line. Our reservation was at 5pm and hoped to be walking out by 6:30.
The restaurant called days in advance to confirm.
Upon arrival the dining room was about 1/2 full and we were seated immediately and greeted. After ordering drinks we made our dinner decisions and waited for drink delivery. They arrived but here was my first indication of problems to come. I had ordered a Tito's martini, up, dry w/olives. And I made a point of saying "not dirty" (it's become an issue lately with bars wanting to make it dirty if you even say the word olive). Well it wasn't dry and there were no olives. Thank goodness it wasn't dirty. The server quickly arrived with a sprig of olives.
Dinner arrived and my next issue was my pork chop. Two chops served medium rare. My wife's short ribs needed a knife to cut (should fall off the bone). So I ordered martini #2 and said specifically "dry", please very little vermouth. It was exactly the same as the first.
We didn't complain about our food because we didn't have the luxury of time to ask for replacement.
After asking for our tickets we waited and waited. We saw neighboring diners doing the same. Our pour over extended server was MIA. Finally the hostess stopped by and we said we really needed our tickets. It was now 6:30.
The one positive is this restaurant/hotel's location to downtown events. We valet parked for $10 vs the $30-$50 lot parking being hawked.
I was really hoping for a good dinner. My wife and I had stayed at the hotel several years ago and the restaurant then wasn't anything special, but it had all been updated and reworked last year in anticipation of Houston hosting the Super Bowl. Unfortunately the great update didn't make it to the kitchen.
We dined here before the Eagles concert with a 5pm reservation. We arrived before 5pm and there were guests seated at only about 10 tables and many open tables. The first drink order took 15 minutes despite the bar not appearing busy. We ordered appetizers and dinner as soon as drinks arrived and told them not to wait to put the dinner order in. We were hoping to leave for the concert by 6pm and told the waiter of our plans. Our soup appetizer arrived about 20 minutes later and it was barely warm. Three of the four dinners arrived about 6:00 pm and I was told my short rib would be right out. This is not a menu item they would have cooked upon ordering and would have been pre-prepared. Ten minutes later, I was again told my short rib would be right out . A second drink order took another 15 minutes. Everyone finished eating by about 6:15 and I still had no food. We ended up cancelling the short rib order. Service was dreadful. We were told upon arrival bread would be right out but even after asking for it three times it never arrived. Even after cancelling the short rib we received an bill for over $220. The server apologized but we never saw a manager, were never offered anything for the terrible service, lack of food etc.
The restaurant called the day before the confirm our reservation saying they wanted to make sure they had enough staff for the number of guests they were expecting. This should have been my first clue. They were extremely unprepared to handle the volume of customers or food orders and should have never accepted the number of reservations they did. The place was packed.
We valet parked the car at the restaurant and when returning to pick it up there was ONE valet and you had to go inside to pay beforehand. It took over 30 minutes to get our car. While waiting we talked to other guests who said they never received their food either. It was an extremely disappointing experience. I would give it no stars if possible.
Food was delicious-I had the Grouper with corn, lentils, and cilantro salad. Nice size portions. My husband had scollop Carbonara-wonderful! Didn't get to really linger since we were on our way to an event at Minute Maid. Look forward to eating there again with friends. Service was very friendly and attentive.
The short rib was very good as were the fries. The carbonara pasta I had featured good scallops... the pasta was okay but probably not the right type for a carbonara dish and the carbonara sauce had practically no flavor. I would not go back for it... might for the spare ribs tho. The theme of the decor seems to be beach which was a little misplaced for an old hotel in downtown Houston but it was well kept.
Tomatos that taste like dessert! What more can we ask for? Pearl's first annual Beer Dinner did not disappoint. Chef Guizar's exquisite dishes paired with Texas' very own St. Arnold's beer were a match made in heaven. The crisp and refreshing taste of the Fancy Lawnmower perfectly complimented its light and airy Red Snapper Aguachile partner. The entree, a flawlessly seared NY Strip drizzled with a delicious Chimichurri sauce balanced perfectly with the very hoppy Elissa IPA. Saving the best for last, a decadent Chocolate Fondant cake topped with a delightfully sweeten Tomato Conserva that tricks your taste buds into believing its not, well, a tomato. My overall experience was WONDERFUL paired with excitement for next wine dinner which happens to land on my birthday, MAY 10th! See you and your charming staff soon Pearl Restaurant and Bar!
My fiancé and I came for dinner and also to check out our future wedding venue. We were greeted very warmly and received prompt and friendly service. We had a wonderful and romantic date night.
Very disappointing, food was fair at best. Not worthy of the 4.6 rating. Snapper did not have much flavor and mashed potatoes were luke warm. Were out of several dishes and menu on Opentable did not match what they really offer, actual is much less.
Excellent food, great service, will definitely return
