Paul Martin's American Grill - Mountain View Ratings and Reviews
We chose Paul Martin's for our office party and was not disappointed. We were given a room off the main area that accommodated all 9 of us and it was great! Everyone loved the food. As the only vegan, I was very impressed with the warm quinoa salad. This was my only choice however so I would recommend more vegan dishes and ESPECIALLY a vegan dessert choice. Coconut ice cream and dark chocolate hot fudge is really easy to provide and so yummy!! Thanks for a great experience!
We have loved this place. But last night my husband's salad with salmon was bad. The salmon was almost inedible...watery and jusst bad. Way too much dressing on the salad. The rest of us had good food...great fish tacos. very expensive for the food not to be consistently good.
I've eaten at Paul Martin's at least 20 times, but the other night they were not up to their usual levels of service. We showed up 15 minutes early for our reservation and the hostess said it would be 30 minutes before they would be able to seat us (even with the reservation). We thus went to the bar, ordered a drink and bumped into some friends there. We also ordered an appetizer which came out really fast. After 25 minutes (10 after our reservation) we went back to remind the hostess who knew where we were by that time) but there still was no table available. About 5 minutes later the restaurant began clearing out and there were numerous tables opening up. Still no notice hostess. After another 10-15 minutes (now 30 minutes past our reservation time) I went back to the hostess and she said she could seat us now. She then lead us to a small two-top back by the kitchen and not one of the 3-4 open tables available in bar area.
Once we sat down the waiter promptly came by, took our order. Our drinks and bread came out in a proper time however our food was no where to be seen. After 45 minutes we waived down a busser who got our waiter. He apologized for the kitchen and said our order was entered at the same time as a 20-top and it'd be a few more minutes. He did comp another drink for us, but by this time we were hungry. After another 15 minutes (now 60 after being seated and 90 minutes after our reservation time) our food finally came.
What we thought was going to be a relatively quick and nice Friday Night Dinner turned out to be an entire evening experience. I'll give Paul Martin's another chance however, if the service remains like we experienced the other night, I'll choose to take my dining dollars elsewhere.
We were here for a birthday dinner, and for the first time in a dozen visits, the experience was disappointing. My entree was wrong and the birthday girl’s skirt steak was delivered cold. It took them forever to correct the problem. The manager was apologetic and adjusted the bill, but overall we wished we had gone elsewhere.
This was a bad night. A friend wanted to take us to dinner and I chose this since we've had good experiences in the past. Our server didn't understand any of the cocktails we ordered, when they did come they were crazy strong and we had to order mixers on the side. Our host was very excited about the prime rib, apparently the meat was unacceptable to the kitchen so he ordered the filet. It was the saddest filet we've ever seen, maybe an inch thick and not as raw as he had ordered. They were also out of the ice cream that he ordered, to be fair they ran next door and brought some back for him but it wasn't very good. Although two of our meals were good, I was so embarrassed that I brought him here. He's used to very fine dining and this was just not up to par. Our server was nice but very inexperienced and the overall service, even with the manager coming to our table and apologizing, was not great.
I ordered my ribeye to be cooked as medium rare, but it came out as well done and cool. The second round was cooked to medium rare, but lack taste. It was advertised as a prime cut, but it was far from that. The restaurant seemed to be overrun with large parties. It appeared it could not handle the load. Still no excuse.
I love Paul Martin's, but unfortunately, I can't leave an outstanding review this time around. When I first called to make the reservations, I made sure the waiter/waitress would bring my parents an anniversary dessert. The response was they normally only do so for birthdays, but of course, they would accommodate. The day of the reservation, I called again to make sure the dessert would be ready to go. The response was yes, my parents would be getting an ice cream and shortbread cookie dessert. Sadly, my parents did not receive a dessert at all. I'm not sure who dropped the ball, but since this was my parents' 30th anniversary dinner from me and my sister, we were quite disappointed, to say the least.
First off, I was late and they were still able to accommodate me. I had requested a table and they only had a booth open at that time, instead of making me wait, another customer wanted a booth and had actually just been seated at a table, one of the managers on duty asked if she wanted a booth one was now available and she was happy to move and there was my table! He did not have to go through all that trouble for me, but he did and it was so much appreciated! The food was fantastic. The portions of the sides were a bit small but very tasty. A fabulous dinner on my Anniversary - what more could you ask for!
I always have a Fabulous Time at Paul Martin's!!!! That's why I chose Paul Martin's for My Good Friend's Birthday Ladies Night Out Dinner. We had an Amazing time. Kyle was the Best from the minute we walked in to treating us to a Lemon Drop shot and always checking to see if we were doing okay.
Thanks again for a GREAT Ladies Night Out Dinner for my Friend's Birthday!!!!

We really want this restaurant to succeed - the atmosphere is beautiful and the food is very good. But our service on Saturday night was exceedingly slow. There were several large parties, but otherwise it was not very busy. From getting water, to our food service, we were waiting a long time for service. I hope this is not the regular mode of the restaurant.
I got a $60 gift card for this restaurant and I am a vegetarian but I eat fish. They did not have much options for any of my dietary needs. I had the fish tacos and it was so so. My friend got the mushroom burger and he said it was good. Their wine menu is very good. The service was pretty nice, I love the look and the feel of the dinning. However, since I am a vegetarian I would not go back.
I had made reservations. When we arrived, she didn't ask if we had them, or didn't seem to care that I had made them. She just asked how many, and directed us to a table. Grant you it wasn't busy, yet it was a very ho hum welcome.
Our server started off great, then kind of dwindled off after the order was taken.
Food was good. Our server gave recommendations, yet again, there wasn't any real follow-up.
This was a Sunday evening business dinner. We were seated at a booth so it was relatively quiet. The waiter was very good at describing items on the menu and for recommending wines. Two of us enjoyed our meals. The vegetarian option and the salmon were perfectly cooked. I ordered two appetizers, a salad and the salt and pepper fried shrimp. My colleague ordered the braised short ribs. According to him, the meal was not very good. My shrimp were delivered nearly 10 minutes after my friends meals. They were overcooked and I couldn't taste the salt and pepper. The next time I am in Santa Clara, I will likely bypass this restaurant.
It was just okay in my opinion. Will probably try somewhere else when looking for a steak dinner. We both ordered steak and all it came with was a heaping pile of mash potatoes. No greens or other sides. For that reason I felt it was very over priced. The happy hour was really good though! There were a lot of different options and small plates. The deviled eggs were my favorite!
Terrible service and experience for a very special occasion.
It was my father's 60th birthday, so a very special day. We made reservations for 5:30, arrived on the dot and the table was not ready. They prepared the VIP room for us and seated us around 5:45. Around 10 minutes later, the serving assistant arrived to ask us what we wanted to drink. We asked for water and a few minutes to look at the menus. 20 minutes later, the server arrives and asks us what we want to drink again. 20 minutes after that, the server brings water for half of our table. In summary this is the rest of the night:
50+ minutes to be seated and to get water.
30+ minutes to get order
1.5 hour to receive appetizers
2.5 hours + to receive entrees
3.5 hours total for dinner to conclude
Food was excellent, service was terrible. It cannot take over 50 minutes to just get water. We had small children with us too so you can imagine how difficult this was to try and manage their hunger and exhaustion.
We watched as tables in the main room came, ate, and left by the time we even received our appetizers.
I was very disappointed in how our party was managed and would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to friends especially for special occasions. I was embarrassed by the service and by how we were treated. The server, although kind and apologetic, did not do much to speed up the service. I had to ask twice for my water to be refilled and it was never refilled.
We never got to order...we left after waiting a long time to get service. When we actually had the waiter’s attention the attitude left a lot to be desired.
The waiter asked if we would like anything to drink. My husband asked for water and the waiter said, “Sure” and disappeared for 5-10 minutes. He didn’t even give me a chance to place a drink order.
When he came back to our table with water, he asked if we were ready to order. We asked about specials and he simply said, “Uh, we have a strip steak and halibut.”
We were sorry to bother him and decided to leave.
This was our third visit to this restaurant., so obviously we have liked the food and even the service we previously experienced. The service sets the tone and having such a bad waiter like we did tonight made us feel like the rest of the night would be disappointing.
