Patxi's - Santa Barbara
My husband and I spent a day exploring Santa Barbara and couldn’t wait to try the pizza. Patxi’s was within walking distance of our hotel. We were shown to one of the street-side tables which we thought was perfect! Unfortunately, no one ever made eye contact with us, brought us menus or water, or came by to take our order. We noticed that the people sitting at the bar were all getting waited on by the bartender who was really hustling. After 15 minutes we got up and relocated to the bar after first telling the hostess why were we’re doing so. I want to emphasize that the restaurant was not crowded during this time. We watched as waiter after waiter ignored the outside customers. Several more groups were seated street-side and had to get up and come into the restaurant to inquire if they could have water, menus and if a waiter could come by to take their order. We saw plenty of waiters, the restaurant was not busy and we had let the hostess know that there was a problem. There really is no excuse for this type of bad service. Again, the bartender was really hustling and taking care of his customers. His name was Jesus.
We came in for a birthday and had a large group. Staff was friendly and accommodating. My low rating is because a couple of us ordered deep dish pizzas and they came out well after the rest of our group had finished eating. And it wasn't my favorite pizza after all. I wish that the server had warmed us before taking the order (or the menu noted) that deep dish pizzas take at least 45 minutes. We would have ordered differently and probably had a better experience.
Nice location on State Street. Decent atmosphere. Very expensive for what you get. 14" pizza for $23. The one I ordered we very bland. The pesto was better. I asked if they had any other suaces besides marinara and the waiter said no. Kind of weird they didn't have more base sauce options. Can't recommend due to high price and marginal food. Maybe I caught them on a bad day.
Pizza was good, so was meatballs. It was a bit chilly since it is an open restaurant. There is a bar with tv screens featuring sports events. A lot of families. Service was excellent.
Very overpriced. mediocre pizza and rude service. I will not go back.
I really enjoy my meeting there, the services is ok
We stopped here while in Santa Barbara and wanted to have some pizza. I'm from Chicago so when I see deep dish on the menu I'm always going to compare it to what I'm accustomed to. Even if the menu doesn't say Chicago style deep dish I know where it comes from. This was actually pretty good.
There are quite a few items on the menu deep dish/thin crust, appetizers, wings salads, etc., but we had an artichoke dip to start. The artichoke dip was creamy and served with crustinis. It was great combination of textures and flavors. I would recommend it as something to try if you're ever here.
We were there kind of late so we kind of rushed our order but our pizza was really good. would say that on a scale from 1-10, I would give it a 7.5 - 8. The ingredients were fresh and the crust was good. We requested chicken on it and I didn't really taste much. I can't help but compare it to my places in Chicago and although it's not the same (there's something about Chicago's dough) I can say that this place does a good job in giving me something to look forward to when I visit Santa Barbara.
Great food, only issue was that the thin base pizza came out 15 minutes before the deep pan which we were not made aware of. So half the family had finished, before the other half even started.
Service was incredible, waiter gave amazing suggestions, highly
The deep dish took almost 45 mins to arrive to our table and the pizza was cold in the middle and hot around the crust only. Would not be going back again
Cold wings cold pizza.... The upside my beer was also cold....
Best pizza in Santa Barbara
Looking for great pizza & they did not disappoint. Good lunch specials.
We had a later evening dinner reservation at Patxi's on the night we arrived in Santa Barbara. We picked it because it has Gluten Free Pizza and my wife has Celiac Disease and is on a strict Gluten Free Diet.
We were seated immediately, served drinks soon thereafter and ordered dinner when the drinks arrived, while the service was quick, it wasn't rushed which was great. My only disappointment was that the deep dish pizza takes 45 minutes and since it was already quite late I was starving and not patient enough to wait for it. I did see it at other tables and it looked great. I ordered the thin crust pizza and it was delivered to the table quickly. My wife ordered a Gluten Free Pizza and was surprised that it was offered in all three sizes on the menu, usually GF pizza is a significant upcharge and only available in one size so ordering a small was a special treat for her.
The price was nice and the food and service were excellent.
We will definitely be back the next time we're in Santa Barbara.
After dinner we strolled down State Street to the water front.
Best pizza in town. If you haven't had the deep dish, go for it. Lunch is a real value.
If you're interested in terrible food and top 40 music from 2001, eat here.
Deep dish pizza was amazing
DO NOT USE OPEN TABLE for reservations, as the restaurant informed me that their system doesn't recognize open table reservations, so we had to wait when we got to the restaurant. They were nice enough about it as they felt bad, but we only waited about 10 minutes but it could have been a disaster otherwise.
All was good but would've liked more vegan appetizer options and perhaps a homemade vegan cheese for their otherwise tasty pizza (they currently use Daiya which is average at best). Service and ambience was great. Good selection of music as well. Overall would go here again if friends wanted to eat there but if the choice was solely mine, I'd prefer a place with more effort in the vegan options as I appreciate equal efforts for ALL menu items vs. strong attention to most items but then settling for a lesser quality on others.
Hands down the BEST deep dish pizza around. First tried it in San Francisco (Hayes Valley), glad that there's one in southern california (please come to LA/OC!)
Great food, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The crust was amazing!
When we arrived, our OpenTable reservation was not found. We told that their system had been having trouble receiving/recognizing OpenTable reservations. We then ended up having to wait 25 minutes longer (beyond our OT reservation time) to get a table. Service was slow... It took nearly an hour for our pizza to be done. (We were quoted 45 minutes when seated. Knowing it was going to take a while, we ordered a caesar salad, specifying we wanted the size for the three of us to share. It took 20 minuted to receive it (salad should not take that long) and was a scrimpy portion. Previous visits, the salad was much more generous which three shared comfortably. This one served barely more than a side salad.
This is third dine-in visit in a row that service has been sub-par. (My last visit there, I waited over 30 minutes for them to finally process my payment. Their system was down, so they had to do it manually. For some reason, they were able to process a few others before me, people who had come in after me. I sat there alone in the restaurant for the last 20 minutes waiting for someone to help me. I finally had to get up to solicit help getting my credit card back.)
I would now only suggest this restaurant to order a pizza to go. The food is delicious, but the dining experience leaves a lot to be desired.
Worst holiday dining experience ever. Hair was baked into my deep dish pizza.
Great service and amazing deep dish pizza! Everything was delicious and worth using the open table reservation so we could just walk up and be seated on a busy Friday night.
Amazing pizza - we shared the spinach pesto deep dish, no doggie-bags needed!
My wife and I tried this place for the first time. We were not disappointed. The barbecue chicken pizza is in our top 2 favorites! The service wonderful.definitely would recommend this place.
So good we went back the second night in a row when the Lark was unable to seat us even with reservations. The gluten free crust is really good and had a nice crunch and taste to it.
Never disappoints! Service is great, food is amazing.
Great experience! Loved the pizza. Would definitely return
The food was delicious! We ordered a few different deep dish pizzas that were very tasty! The appetizers were also great! The wings were appetizing and the burrata bruschetta was AMAZING!!! They have an axxess deal so it made it more affordable, however it is very expensive. The build your own pizza started reasonable but each meant topping is like 4-7 dollars and the veggies are 2-6 dollars depending on the size of the pizza. They have great tasting food, but far to expensive! Also, the service is terribly slow and the pizzas took like 40mins to come out, after we waited like 30 mins to put the order in. Not good if you have any plans post dinner that are not totally flexible. You will be late!
Food was excellent. They were playing Christmas music a few days after Christmas. They had all the windows open even though it was freezing inside and most patrons were wearing their outside coats - inside. When asked if they could put down the windows, they said no. My thin crust pizza got cold instantly. But it was still good. The manager was amazing at the end of the night - he gave us a great run down of Santa Barbara and finally put down the windows.
GF pizza was delicious, but very expensive when you build your own. Pizza, salad, and 2 glasses of wine $75. A bit pricey!
A group of 5, we had a wonderful meal on a shockingly rainy night. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was great. We tried the meatball and hummus appetizers an they were both delicious. We ordered both the deep dish and the thin crust pizza and truly enjoyed those as well. The only small disappointment was that there is not a full bar (wine and beer only) because they have been waiting a LONG time for a full liquor license. I wish them godspeed on that.
This is a fun, open-air place. Give it a try!
This was our first time trying Patxi's. The deep dish pizza was awesome, and they had a lot of good beers on tap. The apps and salads looked delicious but we didn't try on this visit. Patxi's is a great option if you're looking for something upscale-casual.
Been coming here for a while. Great pizza, must try the deep dish. Really filling, but worth it. Think they do have a fantastic selection on tap. Place is clean comfortable and the bathrooms are well maintained. Good for people watching if you want to sit in front. Good for families.
Actually visited here the day of Santa Barbara's Fiesta Days parade. Great front row seats for the equestrian parade! Deep dish pizza was excellent too. Noise level was higher due to being right off the sidewalk and the parade going, but that is to be expected. Service was quick and attentive.

Yes, you can generally book this restaurant by choosing the date, time and party size on OpenTable. Due to local restrictions, this restaurant may not be accepting reservations at the moment.
