Palette Bar and Grill
As we inherited a space as historical as the former Mautz Paint Company warehouse, we had to do it justice. We kept our building’s architectural features intact while updating the space with contemporary design elements and nostalgic touches. We wanted to keep the space faithful to its roots; filled with hues of colors and textures reminiscing of times when the East Washington corridor was a booming industrial area in the city.
Our menu features steak cuts made in-house, chef’s masterpieces, artisan salads and soups, along with a unique beer and hand-crafted cocktail selection.

E Washington is very load with motorcycles and load car mufflers!
We have had 2 really nice meals at Palette. The last one unfortunately not so. Food was not good, onion soup very salty and was sent back. No apologies.
Good food at a good value!
As usual, very good food and service. Ate inside this time. Always feel badly when it’s slow but it was a Monday.
AMAZING cocktails! The waitress was very attentive and they are taking all precautions against COVID.
Excellent service and precautions taken during the pandemic. Bring an appetite- the burgers are huge and worth it.
Just heard about the Palette Bar and Grill. This was literally my first time back in a bar and restaurant since the 2nd week in March. I could not be happier with the experience. As it was a Wednesday, early evening (6:30pm) and Covid-19 was on the upswing nationwide there were a few patrons at the bar, in the inside seating area of the restaurant and at the outside seating area on East Washington. The employees made sure everyone was well separated. The service, drinks and food could not have been better. The bartenders and wait staff were professional, attentive but not overbearing. Perfect for my taste. The bar has a nice vibe. The prices were very reasonable for the excellent quality and service. We’ll definitely be back. Hopefully in the near future.
Excellent observation of social distancing and other COVID-19 related recommendations from Public Health Services. Fantastic service from several wait staff. Great food. Nothing they can do about location, but annoying noise from speeding traffic on E Wash interrupted our conversation several times. Also, limited wine selection — may be driven by current economic situation. Overall, fantastic first experience. Will be back!
Had a great time and the staff were very professional.
Excellent meal! The cocktails and wine are great. My filet was perfect and my sister liked her salmon! Like the outside patio, however the only downside was the noise from the traffic.
Fun dining on the patio. Our server is adorable. Enjoyed the 2 dogs across from us as well as chatting with the owners. Fun spot. Looking forward to your new outdoor area!
Very pleasant. Outside eating can be difficult on East Washington Ave
Noisy motors
This was our first visit. The food was all superb. Tasty and well-portioned. I had the tenderloin which was exceedingly tender and tasty. The tomato soup was great. My key lime dessert tasted a little stale (the crumbs).
My only issue with the evening was this: One of our party ordered a soft drink. $3. Given that we were there during happy hour, I thought that was high. But when he had to pay for every refill (3) that was obnoxious. A restaurant of this class ought to be able to cough up free refills--especially when the first one is $3.
Firstly, thank you so much for your kind words. I am very happy you enjoyed everything and do hope you come back again. I do want to apologize for the soft drink issue. It is not our policy to charge guests for refills, there was an obvious miscommunication between management and staff which has already been addressed. We do appreciate your feedback and agree that we need to reevaluate our soft drink prices and we will be lowering the price. Thank you and hope to see you again!
Revised menu was very good. Tried the mushroom appetizer along with the crab sliders. Salmon entree was also very good.
Great dinner and very relaxing cool atmosphere! We will return.
Love this restaurant! Great atmosphere and food. Fun drinks and nice wait staff. Beautiful decor in and out.
Everything was amazing! Best Brussels sprouts ever and the scallops were perfect! The steak was outstanding and the dessert was the perfect close to the meal. Amazing cocktails and excellent wine and beer selection!
After 2.5 months of shut down due to corona virus, this was our first dining out experience. We had been to Palette before, however, this was the first time sitting in the outdoor seating area. The traffic off the street was loud. The food was excellent. We had the Espetada and BBQ ribs, both were great. We noticed that our waitress didn't bring us any bread. We were told for outdoor seating, we had to ask for bread. They don't bring it to us automatically. That was odd. How would anyone know to ask? Shouldn't the wait staff ask if we would like bread? When I made the reservation, I specifically stated that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The waitress didn't mention anything until we brought it up. Then she offered a dessert on the house.
Last time when we were at Palette, the waiter was wonderful. This time our waitress was subpar.
But as far as the food went, it was done very well. Will definitely go back.
This was our first post-quarantine meal, and I'm so glad we chose Palette. We were seated outside, and were served with care- sealed silver and appetizer plates, masked waitstaff, appropriate distancing. But- the food and drinks were what will bring us back! We loved the Lawn Flamingos drink and enjoyed our steaks, which were cooked perfectly. The fries we had as an appetizer were served with both beer cheese and a smoked tomato aioli, as well. Yes, dining outside on East Wash has its challenges, but the food and service more than made up for it.
Great food, fabulous cocktails, lovely experience.
Wonderful!
Fun location and good food! Love the theme of the building.
It was our first time going here and happened to be a work dinner during a snow storm> So no one was there. IT was all over great experience. The food was well prepared and eclectic. Love the heavy ceramic plates. I loved that the drink menu was a palette and the drinks were the same colors on the palette. The fact that this was the old Mautz paint building and was refurbished and used in the design was excellent idea and very well done. The service was excellent.
The server we had, Daniel, was wonderful, very friendly, our drinks took a little time to get to us, but to be fair, it was extremely busy. I ordered a tenderloin medium rare and he gave it to the gentleman that was with us, and I got his sirloin, which was medium. To me it was obvious he was given my tenderloin, due to what the cut looked like, he had already started eating it before anyone realized, I didn’t say anything (my fault). I just thought that as a waiter he would know what the cuts of meat should look like, but again, my fault for not saying anything. Overall, a nice meal and I would come again, the bar atmosphere was very nice. Daniel was running his butt off all night, and was always very calm and pleasant each time he interacted with us. Good job!
Steaks were cooked to perfection! Service was perfect!
Our server was amazing, food was very good. We had the estpadas or something a d it was out of the world delish.
Food was presented well and tasted so great. The orange sauce with the salmon was amazing. The wine sommelier gave us great recommendations and we enjoyed the bottle we got.
The only issue was the bathroom location, it was very out of the way.
Valentine’s Day dinner! Excellent service and atmosphere
Outstanding food and service as usual! Perfect for a date or any occasion. Creative cocktail menu matches the theme of this exceptional restaurant.
My wife and I dined at Palette for the first time on Valentine's Day, a day which can present various challenges for staff due to the high customer volume. Palette's staff met those challenges. The service was excellent in all ways without compromising quality or leaving us feeling rushed. The restaurant is located in a hotel lobby, but the décor and other whimsical touches (e.g., the drink menu is on a paper palette) create the feel of a stand alone restaurant. We both ordered French Onion soup as an appetizer, and were not disappointed. The saltiness of the cheese complimented the caramelized onions, as intended, and the broth, where some other French Onion soups we previously tried had faltered, was instead robust and flavorful. My wife opted for the chicken parmesan and ate the entire entrée, which is rare when dessert ostensibly awaits. I had the St. Louis ribs. Our server noted he ate the ribs three times last week and I understood why after eating the first rib. They were perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, and the sauce was not slathered thickly, as is the case in some restaurants, so I could taste the rib meat. The accompanying elote (i.e., Mexican street corn) was a disappointment. While the corn had the requisite char, I suggest the chefs rethink the sauce and include cilantro, lime, and cotija in some manner. The aioli had heat, but lacked complexity and was in short supply on the corn. We skipped dessert due to the lack of nut-free options. My wife has a nut allergy and we could not identify a suitable option for her. A similar issue limited her appetizer choices, as she also is allergic to seafood, which is well-represented in the appetizer section of the menu. Other than these menu restrictions, which can easily be remedied, we would recommend that others try Palette.
Very nice restaurant! Great food and wonderful service.
The salad was terrific. Our friends enjoyed the chicken Parmesan, and kitchen easily accommodated a switch in sauces.
Our wait person couldn’t have been nicer and attentive.
Great appetizers, great drinks!
Food was excellent, the value seemed inline with what I was expecting. It was a little noisy, and frenetic. Not in a hip and trendy way. Being a restaurant in a hotel the clientele is very diverse.
Everything we ordered was too salty, as though they were trying to hide poor food quality. The prime rib was also very overcooked for supposing to me medium rare. We skipped on appetizers because they were very pricey for very small portions. Our waitress did not have a good understanding of the menu. She also brought us a dessert menu when we were not even half way through our meal. We were one of only four tables of people with most of the restaurant open on a Friday night at 6:30.
The wait staff were helpful and attentive. The manager checked in. The chefs looked happy cooking. The steak salad was excellent.
The atmosphere was delightful! We enjoyed the appetizers, especially the crab cake sliders. If you are a bacon fan be sure to order the bacon appetizer as well! The mushrooms are quite different from the normal, but if you do not like breading, you should pass. We made a dinner of appetizers and cocktails.
Overall a very good experience!
Waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly, fast and attentive. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and the beer selection was great. The design of the interior was really cool, overall a unique place for dinner, would definitely go back.
Outstanding food and service. Great vibe and creative cocktail list in addition to good beer and wine selections. Anthony and Erica run a great restaurant. Our server Chris was extremely attentive, polite and knowledgeable. A great evening all around!
