Imaginative dishes. Very tasty. Perfect for a special occasion. Our server was very accommodating, informative and attentive.
This is now one of my favorite downtown lunch spots. The food is impressive and really amazing. The dry aged burger is very tasty, the homemade chips are worth the cost of the burger on their own. Also try the house-made charcuterie sandwich.
Chef Lee and his wife eere awesome with us and made our anniversary dinner special. Will definitely come back again for another special occasion.
Great location for a personal or business lunch. Flavors were amazing across the board.
Their foi gras, mushroom puff, femme fatal drink and dessert were great! However, the place lacks ambience and feels too sterile. The oysters were good but I can get oysters anywhere. I barely remember what I had for my main dish because it was forgettable. My husband did not enjoy his food either. We did not get the chef course, though, so that experience may be very different. Service was great, however! For the cost, I really was expecting much more!
Great food and service. I enjoyed the home made fettuccine. Modern ambiance.
We should not have broken our unwritten rule about not eating in empty restaurants. On a Thursday at 8 no less. It must have been an off night because much of dinner bordered on inedible. A very heavy hand with salt and spice obliterated most of the dishes except for the parsnip risotto which did not hand any parsnip taste. What bothered me most was the short pour on the wine. If you put the words 5 ounce pour on the wine list then do it. I work at a wine bar and know what 3 ounce pours look like and they were at best and 15$ each. These were not the premium ports where there was a 3 ounce option. We left most of our plates unfinished. No one cared. Better dining options exist.
Great evening food was good
Did the chef menu and loved it. Great plating and most of all great flavours. Go to for me.
Overall an excellent experience - 4.8 stars. The food and service were excellent. The only minus is that it was very loud. The acoustics made it difficult to hear the waiters & our friends. We were seated near the front door left by the window. It could be better in other parts of the dining area. Regardless, really enjoyed it and will return.
Food was terrific off the ala carte menu. They tried very hard to meet special dietary needs without compromising the quality of the dishes. Service was very attentive but it seemed like they were short on wait staff a bit. Cocktails and wine were very good. Bartender was able to prepare a drink that is not universally prepared throughout the bar world. Very comfortable place but not over the top design. Would be nice if the seating would allow all diners to have a view of the kitchen or bartender, but tables are situated so that 1/2 the diners have their backs to the preparers. Ala carte menu was surprisingly affordable. $144 for 4 drinks, 2 entrees, 1 small plate vegetable plate, 1 appetizer; ++. We ordered the focaccia, cauliflower, lasagne, and cornish hen. All dishes were very nicely done, tasty, and worth it. Biggest negative is that it got loud at busy dinner times. Don't go there for the ambience, go for the food.
Awesome restaurant! Menu items different from your average restaurant. Really great food, awesome friendly professional service, and really cool and fun ambiance! Prices were very, very reasonable to boot! Highly recommend! Check it out and have a great meal.
Not really worth the money. Food is good, not great, but portions are small. You can easily spend well over a hundred dollars for two people without alcohol and leave hungry. The food also takes way too long to come out. Staff is nice.
My first time here for lunch bringing a client. I ordered the burger, which was fantastic, and my guest ordered the brisket, which was equally delicious. Our service was professional, polite, friendly and thoughtful. We also ordered dessert, which was truly exceptional. Parking at Harbor Court, particularly for downtown, is very reasonable at just $3.00 for two hours - perfect for lunch. Because of the high food and service quality, Pai is an ideal place for business lunch downtown. I plan to return here regularly for business lunches.
Incredible dining experience. The food was exciting and very original, absolutely recommend
Went for drinks and trying bar menu. It was so tasty we ended up eating dinner- now mai gai was superb!
I met a friend for dinner after work in a Friday night and we made reservations at the bar, since the tables were booked. What I loved about the bar seating was that you could order from the regular menu and the personalized attention from the staff.
My friend is a vegetarian, so we ordered all vegetarian appetizers to share. The house made focaccia bread with salted butter is as perfect as it gets! We devoured it in no time and followed that with the cauliflower - which is no ordinary cauliflower. Each bite is delicious, bursting in flavor and quite a good portion size.
For dinner, my friend had the vegetable tartine, which she loved, and I decided on the sampler appetizer, as I was getting quite full. The sampler is exquisite and tasty! The people next to me also ordered it and said it was fantastic.
We also ordered the special Valentine cocktail (gin and strawberry) and topped off our dinner with a lovely avocado ice-cream (unusual but wonderful!).
I should note that it was the day after Valentine’s and they were still serving their Valentine set menu, which if I had been more hungry, I would have jumped on - it sounded amazing! I see that they are having a special menu of dishes from Spain coming up! Can’t wait to return!
First of all, our first adventure at PAI Honolulu was a special occasion so some of what I might say may not pertain to them in an everyday way, but a leopard’s spots are still their spots and those might be pretty tough to change their personality in that regard.
The restaurant is a bit on the small size so it feels a bit more intimate and personalized than some of your bigger brands, which means for Valentine’s Day, it was perfect.
I had the Chef’s tasting menu (10 courses) while my wife had the Pre Fixe Valentine’s Day menu (5 courses). We wanted to get as wide a range of different flavours from this menu as we could at the hesitation of the chef. That being said, we found that the food itself was very inventive, bold where it counted and subtle to add complexity. We enjoyed every dish more with every course that was brought out. You can imagine, all of our etiquettes went out the window by the time dessert was served as we devoured every morsel and would have licked the plates if we weren’t so visible to the public.
Saying the food was excellent is one thing, but where this restaurant shines is in the service. Our service team whose frontman was Gabriel (I think his name was Gabriel, nice young lad in any case), was exactly there when you thought you might need something and melted into the backdrop when you were admiring a dish or deep in conversation. I think it was the best service I’ve had in a year.
The experience was excellent with great food and drinks. The timing was off with the service and there was often long delays between each course and inattentive staff. Overall though, the experience was unique and high-quality tastes.
Bday and Valentine’s day
excellent food and wine pairing. awesome cocktails.
THE BEST LUNCH EVER
I’ve never reviewed a lunch before since both breakfast and lunch are not very special for me. I’ve reviewed PAI many times for dinner and consider it the quintessential restaurant on any of the Hawaiian Islands but lunch, why not. First of all the ambiance is perfect. Modern Bistro vibe. Super relaxing and the price range especially for the amazing food and wonderful wine(check out the Gamay Rose) can be considered semi budget. My wife and I shared two dishes. Two of the best individual dishes we’ve ever had and that includes our former home in NYC and Brooklyn as well as all of France. Kevin Lee and his awesome staff have amazingly mastered the making of bread. If you go there ask him how he makes the bread for the following which we had. Smoked Brisket Sandwich / 18 southern spice-rubbed 12-hour slow cooked brisket, cabbage slaw, green papaya, mayo vinegar, house-baked ciabatta & 90-Day Dry-Aged Beef Burger / 19 + Foie Gras Torchon (supplemental 10) + Burgundy Truffles (supplemental 20)
> all of our beef is dry-aged in house aged beef patty, cheese, red onion, cucumber pickle, roasted shallot mayo, garlic butter, house-baked potato bun. The bread on my brisket was the best bread I’ve ever had.
Pai just keeps getting better. The new menu format is great, and the cooking is stellar. Service is top-notch, with staff practically practically anticipating my every need.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Pai. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was was on point. We had a few outstanding dishes - beef tartar, risotto, deviled eggs. Great cocktails and the sommelier recommended a nice bottle that complimented our diverse meal.
The interior is well appointed and the ambiance is nice.
Chef Kevin Lee is a culinary genius! Just the most amazing creations, rivaling any Michelin rated restaurant. The service was impeccable. A must try on everyone’s list.
Awesome every time!
Went for dinner and happy hour. For dinner and happy hour seated at the same table. Prices are great for happy hour.
Everything was very good, including that most important thing, food. But a few of the items may prove a bit too innovative for some.
This is an amazing food experience. We’ve been here many times and every time is a wonderful eating adventure. Some times we opt to select from the tasty and varied dinner menu. This time we went for the full chef’s tasting menu and every bite was excellent. We sampled bits of crab beignet, lovely scallops in citrus, mushrooms and pasta (spaetzle), and a bouillabaisse whose broth was filled with tastes of lobster...the best we’ve ever had. And though he deserves the highest praise, this chef and his kitchen crew have zero pretensions and clearly work very hard to make sure that every dish is perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant for people who want a great food experience with a chef and crew who truly appreciate every person who comes into the restaurant.
We appreciate the chef being flexible with our vegan life-style and coming up with some plant-based options for us on the menu!
Tasting menu is beyond compare. Perhaps the best in the state. Beats many of New York City’s very best restaurants.
The food was very unique and delicious! We shared 10 different dishes and they were all beautifully presented and very tasty. They did add up, as did our cocktails, so while we'd love to return, this will be a "special occasion" restaurant for us.
My cioppino was very tasty but soup was cold. My 2 lunch companions parked in the bldg’s garage but no validation extended.
Dedinitely a hidden gem. Food was very, very good and service was impressive. I would definitely come back here.
Excellent drink menu and an innovative food menu. Beautiful dining space, but we sat at the bar and liked it a lot.
Food was cerebral but pleasingly composed. The wine list was equally interesting. The service was friendly but if getting your food at the same time as everyone at the table is a priority then it would be best to dine alone!
We thought Pai was very good. The food is creative, and thoughtful, and we liked everything we ordered. The Fois Gras and short rib pasta was amazing! My husband loved the chicken with the Mochi rice.
The one thing we found lacking was the wine list. It wasn't very good, for our tastes. We like more of a variety of California Cabs, and maybe some Zinfandels. Not as keen on the Spanish , French wines and Pinot Noirs. We would go back, thou. Very nice!
Had a great time at Pai for a recent get-together with a friend! We booked at the bar but were able to order from both the happy hour and main dining menus. Happy hour drinks at $8 are a good deal and quite yummy (we tried the Pai 55). Service is very attentive without being overbearing and dishes are delivered professionally. They even go as far as to describe the dish you’ll be enjoying. We had so much fun, we ended up staying for hours and never felt like we overstayed our welcome. Thank you, Pai, for a fun “girls night out!”
Chef Kevin is awesome at what he does! My family and I enjoyed the food and received exceptional service.
The service and food were fabulous!!!
