It was a little bit of a letdown while some dishes were excellent some were just ok. Also was told they had churros only during the day.

Food was very good and inventive, service attentive and informative. The noise level is very high, which I find more annoying than "energetic", but I would still recommend it based on quality and service. Just don't plan any intimate conversations.

I haven't been to Oyamel in many years. The physical layout was different back then. My cousin and I dined there before a Wednesday evening Caps game and it was great! Oyamel has a nice full bar that was very busy. We were seated "downstairs" (just a short level down from the main level). Chips and salsa were served. The salsa had some nice heat and was very flavorful. Chips are made in house, of course. Oyamel has an extensive tequila and mezcal list, which we took full advantage of. Service was very attentive; they work in teams, which is ideal for a very busy restaurant. The food was outstanding! My cousin started with a salad he enjoyed. I had the best ceviche I've ever had! Striped bass with sectioned pink grapefruit, onions, and a delicious citrus "broth" that I ate with a spoon once I finished the food. Wow! We then had chapulines tacos, a Oaxacan specialty of dried grasshoppers. These critters were huge. (When my wife saw the picture, she said it looked scary.) Nice flavor and excellent texture. Next, he had a carne asada taco and I had a cochinita pibil taco, a Yucatan specialty (pork shoulder marinated in achiote paste, citrus juices, and lots of herbs/spices). Delicious. I couldn't stop so had a third taco, also very good: Hongos en molito (wild mushrooms, poblano peppers, etc.). I told my wife that she and I are going back to Oyamel this summer. Jose Andres (a true mensch) hits a home run here.

They get everything right at Oyamel. The atmosphere is relaxed, convivial. The wait staff are first rate. If you can't remember what was that great dish I had last time, you order something else and it becomes the great dish you want to remember next time. (This time it was the trout that looked like steak when I got it.) I like to bring out of town guests here.

An adventurous take on mesoamerican cuisine. Some dishes are oversauced but most are what you would expect. A lack of wait staff but relatively empty weekday lunch crowd made up for that.

Food was delicious but there weren’t a lot of beef or seafood options (not including octopus). They recommend 2-3 plates per guest however, the serving sizes are small and cost $13-$15 per plate. The quesadilla for example was really just two tacos kinda sealed closed with cheese. The tortillas were also grainy and left a lot to be desired. I know corn tortillas are traditional however, a flour tortilla option would’ve been nice. The issue for me was the service. We had a reservation and still waited about 15-20 mins to be seated. Then when we were sat we waited another 15-20 mins for our server. He arrived empty handed with not even a pitcher of water. It wasn’t until another 15 mins that we were able to flag him down for water then he only filled 3 of our 4 glasses. For an appetizer, we ordered queso and the guacamole and our server forgot the guacamole so we waited again for that. Once we did receive our guacamole it was delicious and worth the $16 to me. We had to ask for our check multiple times and once we did receive it, there were items on there that shouldn’t have been. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants downtown but value and the service was just not worth it. I understand everyone is short staffed however if you aren’t able to meet demand maybe offer take out service only or close sections of the restaurant.

One member of our party thought there may have been superfluous ingredients in some of the dishes. The food was wonderful. Our service was excellent. The margaritas were delicious and enjoyed the salt air. The chips, salsa and guacamole were tasty and fresh. One member of our party would like to have see more creativity in that area. The coffee desert was much appreciated.

Tacos de carnitas Michoacán style, the taste to perfection like eating them in the plaza Ceviche, so fresh no need to add nothing , while eating it I went back to Baja in my memories Thank you José Andrés and your team at Oyamel for cooking such great food

Service started off slow but did get better. The Guacamole was delicious and we ordered tamales and tacos to share. The chicken tacos were very good but the pork used in the tamales and tacos was dry and tasteless. Overcooked and clearly left under a heat lamp. Very disappointing especially after the server recommended the tamale special- it sounded amazing but was only edible after pouring salsa over it. The dessert pastel de tres leches con pita was fine but not at all what was expected. Overall the restaurant was a letdown. I would go back for happy hour but keep to the guacamole and cocktails.

When bringing extra salsa, the bowl was accidentally dropped and splashed. No biggie, accidents happen. Some of the Salsa went into my glass of coke. The glass was not empty. They sell tiny bottles of coke for $6 each, no refills. I told our waiter and all he did was bring me a new glass of ice. He could’ve brought a bottle of coke as well but he didn’t. They do a heavy upsell at this restaurant. When I was ordering my drink, the waiter suggested I order 2 because they are so small. I agreed but he didn’t offer to replace it so I was not a delighted customer.
