Went for restaurant week and had issues getting our food out in time.
The food at oyamel is amazing. We had 5 courses and every single course impressed me.
The mole was out of this world. Just amazing!
Service at Oyamel is always outstanding. Despite having a reservation at 7:45, Oyamel didn’t haven’t a table ready until after 8. To compensate, the service gave us free guacamole and made sure to always check on my table for water and additional food/drinks. Definitely will come back!
We were seated and 20 mins went by without being served water. We were surrounded by waitstaff and no one even looked our way to ask if we were being helped - despite our bare table. My friend had to go serve himself water. And I had to go ask the hostess to please find a/our server. A total “not my job” attitude from the hostess stand to the waitstaff. The service was abominable.
If you don’t have your order ready exactly when the server requests it, expect to wait
We have been to several of Jose Andres' restaurants and we loved each of them but Oyamel won our hearts. The flavors of all the dishes were different and amazing! The soup was served with avocado and tasted divine! The Oyamel Margarita arrived with a salty foam instead of the usual salt rim... The ceviche con citricos was tacitly tart-sour enough to be de-li-cious. It was bass in an habanero-pineapple base....amazing! The Pescadilla Sinaloa arrived as a kind of an empanada and it tasted totally different to the previous dishes. That's what amazed us: the uniqueness of each dish! And to top the lunch in Jose Andres' style, came the Pastel Tres leches with these delicious pineapple gelatin cubes served with a scoop of caramel ice cream and milk espuma!! Outstanding! Hats off!!
The food was great, service was ok, great value, noisy space but livable.
We went for Restaurant Week and the menu was amazing. Brussel Sprouts are delicious and the cake for dessert with the caramel ice cream...Yum! Highly recommend this restaurant and experience!
Great authentic Mexican food; not the Americanized version or TexMex. Big fan of Jose Andres!
the food and service were great, but there are a couple of things that I believe you can improve.
1. It took too long between courses.
Restaurant week lunch. Food was very tasty and the service was outstanding. Definitely worth visiting.
Completely satisfied. Restaurant week menu was great.
Went during restaurant week, and it was amazing! Ceviche con citricos and cochinita pibil were fabulous!
Had lunch during restaurant week. Nice selection of choices on the menu and each course was delicious. Service was good too.
Must get the beef short ribs! Absolutely fall-off-the-bone tender delicious goodness.
Great service and better food. Drinks are strong!
A great dinner to begin an evening downtown with family and friends.
Visited for the first time this weekend. Found a high top table, which are first come first serve. Food and service were both great. The $63 for the pitcher of margaritas seemed high, but they were not your average drink and we got 6 out of the pitcher.
Incredible food!! Really loved the ceviches! They were the best I’ve ever had. Very fresh fish and well balanced. Also, the hot chocolate was the best I’ve ever had. The mole potatoes so good and the stuffed poblano amazing! Salt foam margaritas are a must
We decided to go to Oyamel for my brothers birthday since he had never been. It will be my 10th time going. I have loved Oyamel since it first opened. I do wish they would add more items to their menu, specifically more authentic Mexican sides and more taco options. The service is always wonderful here.
Great every time
Food was very salty
As always, the food was spectacular. Every dish was delicious and the server was incredibly helpful in making selections. Can’t wait to go back!
We had the oyamel experience and it was a very enjoyable culinary experience - I’d recommend it - two couples very fun evening
Great evening with friends and out a candle on a cake for birthdays! Thanks for the great service and food!
It was all great! Food, service ambiance. The guacamole was a little bit expensive for what it was, but the rest was perfect
Our small group of friends were delighted to be seated at that lovely glass table in front of the large picture window. Our server was Jonathon, who was attentive, patient and fun. Our group ranged from dedicated carnivores to vegetarians, with preferences ranging from bland to super spicey. We all loved our selections, the salsa, guacamole and homemade chips, and those amazing foamy pomegranate margaritas! Wish there was an Oyamel in California!
Their pozole rioja is terrific. My only disappointment was in ordering cafe con leche they brought me coffee and a small serving of cold milk!
Always a delicious meal at Oyamel, one of Jose Andres’s best restaurants.
Always wonderful food and drinks!
We had a fabulous experience at Oyamel. Great food, great drinks, great service! We visited 3 of José Andres’ restaurants while visiting DC and this was our fave!
This is one of the best place in town for great margaritas and delicious Mexican food. It is just simply a great experience every time.
Excellent food, service and ambiance! Can’t wait to return again and again!!!
this was the perfect place for New Years brunch. i got a mimosa which was a perfect pairing for the ceviche coctel costena. the meal was the the staff was friendly and helpful.
The food was the highlight of the evening--a five-course NYE dinner. The service (we waited +30 mins for to be sat after our 9:30 reservation, our server seemed incredibly annoyed, and we felt very rushed through the 5 courses) and price ($85/person) left us less-than-impressed. Sure--it was NYE and we expected a crowd, but for the price we paid, we definitely didn't appreciate waiting +30 mins to be sat, being given free margaritas by a host because they were "sorry to keep us waiting," (for which our server was visibly annoyed) and then being charged as much as we were and seeing our server so infrequently.
As a Mexican restaurant, there should have been Mexican music to reflect the rich Mexican history and culture. Instead, there was loud acid rock type music that was inappropriate for a Mexican restaurant. Even latin, salsa music would have been better. Be consistent with the food and music!
Went there on a double date since we heard such great reviews and love other Jose Andres restaurants. Unfortunately was disappointed with the menu and meal. The dishes were all ok but nothing stood out and for that price point it didn’t seem worth it. Margaritas and service was great tho, just a little disappointed in the entrees!
A group came for the NYE celebration and we really enjoyed everything from the food and service, to the DJ and champagne toast at midnight!
