Overlook Raleigh Downtown Restaurant
The food was excellent and a nice variety of menu options.
Had difficulty changing the reservation from 2 people to 6 people on Open Table app and had to call the restaurant for the change. The salad was unusual but good with roasted corn, cherry tomatoes, and croutons. The beef and the scallop entrees were well prepared and excellent but the vegetables were not very good and were not eaten. These were restaurant week fixed menus with only one choice for dessert, a sherbet with lavender leaves. Some did not have the leaves but two that did were not edible and were replaced with a chocolate tort that was excellent. The waitress was pleasant and accommodating. Overall an average dining experience.
Overlook is clearly a hotel-oriented restaurant. We visited it on a Friday night before the theatre and were the only customers (we are locals, not staying at the hotel). A long counter seating area in the middle looks oriented for a quick breakfast. We were at the window, with a nice view toward the theater building.
Posted menu on OpenTable did not reflect the full list of choices. Appetizers followed what you find at most casual dining restaurants - good but nothing special. The entree special of halibut with beets, however, was a bright point. Both our appetizers and our entree came to the table not as warm as we would like.
Service staff was limited in number but attentive, prompt, and friendly. We enjoyed our interaction with them.
