Ostra Ratings and Reviews
Great Mediterranean flavours, the octopus was excellent, the Gnocchetti with lobster and the Monk fish with truffle amazing. The Wine menu is excellent with a great option of wines by the glass and Champaign by half bottles., prices very good. Our waiter Kelvin was outstanding he new the menu and food selections perfectly and very professional. It is always nice to dine in a fine restaurant where the people working there have pride in their work.
We had a table for six for my son's birthday. Started with oysters and a cheese board which were great, but no better than what you get at most seafood places around town. From there things took a big step up. The seabass tartare was simply transcendent. The (freshly smoking) smoked salmon tartare was nearly as good. All three salads (snow pea, kale, lettuce) were ordered and all three were outstanding. Saffron fettucini and grilled octopus were also amazing, the octopus being as tender and delicate as I have ever had. For main courses two chose the pepper crusted salmon which was super fresh and cooked to just past sushi perfection. The one non-pescaterian had the chicken which, while by no means innovative, was perfectly cooked. I ordered the monkfish which was a generous portion that came bathed in sautéed wild mushrooms. The lobster-like fish was tender and perfect. My son got the scallops, which while delicious and generously portioned (5 large), seemed to have gotten lost in the kitchen and came out 5 minutes after everything else. The best main course of the night was the grilled branzino - tender, delicate, and superbly seasoned. Desserts were excellent - the basil sauce in the snow egg is something I had never quite had before in a dessert and I thought it worked perfectly. A beautiful (and complimentary) assortment of sorbets and a birthday greeting was delivered to my son. The knowledgeable waiter steered us well to a couple of Sancerres that complemented the meal superbly. All in all, it was a great dining experience. Definitely pricey (with tip $800 for 6), but well worth it for a special occasion.
The quality of the food was very high. We dine out at some of the best restaurants so when we say the Octopus, Scallop main dish and Paella were excellent. Service was also excellent. Dine here if you would like very good seafood prepared and served just right. There was nothing disappointing at all. Enjoy.
King crab appetizer and 3lb lobster were both very overcooked...crab servinfg was scant...major faux pas for "seafood" restaurant... Waiter served the meal, never checked back and disappeared after delivering the check...Price is not reflective of service or food quality. Too bad ...Great setting, front house staff was excellent...
There are many choices for fine fish/seafood in Boston, but Ostra is definitely 'up there' with the best. It was our first visit, so navigating the menu and deciding was not easy. For starters I had the Faroe Is Salmon Tartare and for main the Brandzino. My wife had the Fried Calamari for starters, which was huge! The fish was fresh and melt in the mouth. Beautiful restaurant with great service!
I was a little worried when I walked in because it felt very formal, but soon relaxed into the experience. The cocktails were delicious and the service was excellent! I had the paella and it was the best I've ever had. Honestly the dish could be split, especially if you order side dishes. The truffle fries arrived hot and crispy and the crispy oysters were delicious (said my mom) and arrived elegantly plated, as if they were raw. Very clever! My niece is vegetarian and the chef customized a pasta dish to her liking which was a nice surprise. It's not an inexpensive place, but it's worth every penny!
Waiter, food, and ambiance were great. Being pricey was expected, just thought some dishes were a bit overpriced, but nothing crazy for an upscale restaurant. The waiter also brought us a free dessert due to it being our anniversary (thanks to selecting the anniversary occasion option when booking on OpenTable). Overall great experience!
I was very pleased with my dining experience most recently while dining at Ostra. The venue is at a convenient location and easy to get to. Upon entering you are greeted by a very friendly hostess and guided to you seat. Once seated you are then greeted by a vey friendly server/wait staff member who is readily available and attentive to your needs. Lots of dining options are available to you to choose, can be a bit overwhelming unless you have someone with you that had been to the restaurant and can suggest options. Presentation of each dish as it arrives to the table was splendid and I enjoyed indulging in them. Finishing my night off with something sweet which i rarely do was the icing on the cake. Very unhappy with myself for not snapping a few pictures of my meal as i always do. Next time.
Looking forward to dining at the wonderful restaurant again.
