About
Owner is very friendly. Unfortunately, they seemed understaffed and a bit disorganized. The owner was the only one tending to and serving front of the house --- fine with one or two tables, but chaotic with 6-10 tables. People were not getting seated or waited on, and seemed as frustrated as we were. Food was okay -- the highlight was the Caesar salad -- and service made for a not great experience. There were a lot of locals so I'm thinking that maybe we got them on an off night.
My steak dinner was very good but I was looking forward to the veal piccata but it was taken
off the menu for the night.
Our second time coming with friends and thoroughly it both times. The food is delicious, its a seeet little place with white tablecloths and napkins. Highly recommend in the lower Pac Hts area.
This is one of our favorite romantic but casual restaurants in the neighborhood. Excellent food, ambiance and service. It is always a pleasure to dine at Osteria. Thank you!
Our first visit was everything we hoped for. Professional service with a smile, delicious Italian, and good ambiance. We will return.
Classic Italian restaurant in a lovely neighborhood. Wait staff were friendly and fun. Food was delicious, teenagers enjoyed it.
Lovely, quiet, perfect place to reconnect with old friends.
Pains me to write this because I love Osteria. We go quite often. Tonight it was very quiet, which was unusual. There were four of us and for some reason, even though it was rather empty, service was slow. It took a long time for our food to come out. Appetizers (carpaccio, artichoke hearts with shrimp) were both delicious as always. I had the petrale with capers and lemon sauce. I was disappointed. There was just one piece of petrale and the sauce had no flavor. It was like eating a portion of plain white fish. It was served with roasted potatoes and zucchini. I got 2 teeny tiny little potatoes which I did not think was enough. Zucchini was bland. I have never complained about Osteria before, but this time it missed the mark. 2 other people at the table had the pasta with meatballs special. They said it was ok, but not great. The last person at our table had the calamari and he said it was delicious. It was a large portion with a very good sauce, unlike the sauce on the petrale. I was looking to have a good chocolate dessert, but they did not have one on the menu. One person at our table had cream caramel and he said it was good. Overall this is a very good neighborhood restaurant that we frequent and last night was the first time it just was off, not sure why. We will go back.
Service is excellent, ambiance cozy. I would stick to the classics like antipasti, pasta and basic entrees. This is a quiet Italian bistro where you can sit down and have a conversation. Their specials can be a little spotty, but I would return.
Loved it. Was going to go tonight but need to cancel the reservation.
The restaurant is clearly a local gem. Many individuals where welcomed graciously by the waitstaff implying they have visited more than two or three times. The restaurant is quaint, dimly lit but had an odd smell upon entering. The food menu had healthy and traditional Italian cuisine. The food was received in a timely manner and the waitstaff was attentive throughout. Overall, a mid-level priced restaurant that stayed true to it's roots and provided a suitable dinner.
Good for a quiet meal before a JCC event. Old-fashioned menu of unremarkable food, slightly rubbery shrimp in the scampi. Nothing awful, nothing to write home about as my mother used to say...
Everything was fine until the check arrived. We were a party of 6; (3 couples) We each provided our credit cards to split the check in equal thirds but the server told us that it was restaurant policy to only accept 2 cards. I then spoke with the manager who reiterated the “2 card policy” and referred me to language on the bottom of the menu. I asked her to make an exception since we were not aware of the policy and that we should have been told at the time we reserved our table.
It is a very foolish, arbitrary, and customer unfriendly policy. We will not dine there again.
Always excellent.
The food is always tasty and the service is always great! I've been going there for years!
Wonderful dining experience overall! Everything was on point! Can’t wait to go back!
I love the restaurant. The staff was fabulous. But unfortunately the food was disappointing. Firstly, the menu was limited. And then two of the entrees we wanted were not available. I ended up with a chicken/mushroom pasta that barely had any chicken or mushroom in it. It was pretty much just pasta in a very tasty red sauce. Disappointing. 🙁
Bread was so so. Minestrone soup was good homemade quality but didn’t have enough “stuff” in it. Needed some pizzaz.
Wine delish! Sherbet delish!
Probably won’t go back.🤔
This place could be amazing, but it's not. Great location, great menu, but service is ridiculously slow, the food has no flavor, and they are in desperate need of s sprucing up. We need a simple, family style place in Pacific Heights. I really hope they get their act together!
Keanu was my waiter and he is an absolute doll! Now be good to him and I'll keep coming back.
we are lucky because Osteria is a neighborhood restaurant and we go frequently, which I recommend strongly...
With an already limited wine list, they were out of our first two choices of wine. They were also out of two different styles of pasta. I think the chef should’ve stopped at Safeway on his way to work. Disappointing.
Dirty menus and table.
As always a treat! Freshly prepared good food, great service and very friendly! Thanks!
3rd time here. Always been good and service outstanding. Nice ambiance. This time around, the calamari steak breading was soft and not a good mouth feel, with the lemon butter sauce a bit watery and needing salt. Overall no taste. The sauce on the shrimp scampi was excellent, the shrimp were a bit overcooked. As far as specials that night, the lasagna was outstanding as was the pear salad. Dressing was very good. Also on point were the roasted brussel sprouts with a balasamic dressing. Has always been though, worth the visit!
Loved this quiet and warm corner restaurant - delicious seasonal pear and pomegranate salad and the lightest eggplant parmigiana of my life. Friendly service and a sweet neighborhood feel. Also the best Tiramisu ever, to end our delightful experience at Osteria.
Stopped in for a quick dinner with my husband just as the restaurant opened. It turned into a great date. The decor was lovely, the service was great, the food fantastic. Wanted clams but they didn't have any, I think they made up for it with a very generous pour of the chianti I ordered. The cheesecake was absolutely delicious. We will come back.
We all enjoyed our entrees, capellini, risotto, bruschetta.
Service was friendly and efficient.
Would return if in area
Great neighborhood spot, always friendly and reliable with good food and service
We made a reservation but till given a terrible table next to the kitchen so we declined that and was moved to another table 3 tables away from kitchen. Food was good. Terrible bathroom though, yikes!
Great neighborhood place...warm, friendly, good food and fairly priced. One of our favorites.
Wonderful experience! Will be back for sure. Lovely restaurant and service and food!
I have been going for the pasta con vongole and it was always great, however, it just wasn't good. Sauce was watery and flavorless. I ended up adding a ton of cheese to make it ediable, but even that didn't help. Won't be going back.
Osteia is consistent. one can count on it for friendlyservice andgoodfood.
Osteria is our favorite restaurant when we come to San Francisco. We love everything Italian. I had the risotto with asparagus and it was perfect! My daughter and I love the warm atmosphere of Osteria. Thanks!
Enjoy going there. A relaxing and friendly plae and delicious food. Lots of choices.
Food was disappointing except for the lemon cheesecake, which was excellent.
Absolute bad food.
Nothing was tasty
Don’t go there.
Bad bad bad
Only the waiter was nice
Go at least once a week. Enjoy the atmosphere, food and service.
Owner/hostess seems to be getting less and less friendly and appreciative of our business.
Wonderful neighbourhood place. We went on spur of moment and ran into friends and friendly staff.
