Osteria del Pastaio
Service was outstanding!! Good was okay. To be honest we were disappointed in our food. My veal was dry and very overcooked. My husband linguine and clams had no flavor.
Guys. This place is a hidden gem. Truly amazing food, friendly staff, and amazing wine. The noodles were homemade, hand-cut goodness that everyone needs to experience when in Chicago. I will be back every time I go!
The Inn of the Pastamaker is a nice little restaurant. The lightly fried calamari was delicious-crunchy, not greasy at all. The sauce made the dish. The veal scallopini in lemon sauce was excellent as was the truly homemade gnocchi-just like my nonna made. All the portions were generous. I highly recommend the apple crostata which can serve two for sure. Our server, Julia, was delightful. She was professional yet friendly and recommended some of the dishes we ordered. And the price point was spot on. Try it, you'll like it.
Valentines dinner and it was perfect. Thanks
Osteria del Pastaio is a neighborhood gem, serving fresh and perfectly-cooked food, in a cozy environment. The management and staff is friendly and professional, and they always make you feel at home.
Excellent service and simply amazing food! What a hidden gem in the Gold Coast. Family owned. All food freshly prepared on site. Amazing meal, great value. I will be back!
Our servers were very attentive and provided recommendations. The food was great, and the menu not too overwhelming with options. I very much enjoyed my pasta, and would look forward to coming back. The atmosphere was quiet and allowed for conversation easily. It was a very short walk from the Looking glass theatre.
The restaurant is located just off the Mag Mile, and is welcoming and intimate. We were surprised to find ourselves in a sort of semi private alcove.....quite lovely. The staff was excellent and our waiter was particularly wonderful. The food was reasonably tasty....we had good salads to start, followed by a rich pasta dish for one of our party, distinguished by being mixed at the table with truffles and cheese, and flamed. Quite a show but proved perhaps a touch too rich. I had veal in a lemon sauce....a bit too tart but fine and a 3rd member of our party had Osso bucco, which was tender but not the sort of shank we might have anticipated.
A nice experience with a very welcoming staff.
Everyone was so professional but yet felt like family. Food was delicious.
The food was incredible! Our server Sasha was wonderful, providing his honest opinions to our menu questions. This was our first time dining here and when our dinner was over, we all decided we’re making this place our “Go To” place to dine while visiting CHI.
Excellent service and food. The Carbonara and The aruga salad are our favorites.
We were a party of 6. We all experienced Innovative, creative and delicious meals. The service was outstanding.
We will definitely return
Our server was very polite and funny! The food was fantastic and would come back! Victor and Sasha were amazing servers
We were seated immediately and given our choice of location. The waiter greeted us immediately. He was very attentive throughout the meal
The food was delicious!
Would absolutely return.
We were really disappointed with the food. Everything ranged from lackluster to bad. The staff were very nice but that couldn't make up for the bad food.
New year eve lunch with friends. I come here often. Today with 4 other friends. Three for their first time. All of them really enjoyed the lunch. One was Italian and said the fettuccine carbonara was great. It’s often one of my favorites. Today I had the spinach salad with grilled salmon. Perfect. Also friendly service makes it a perfect place for lunch or dinner.
The food and service are both excellent. They have tasty seafood pastas and a delicious steak with gorgonzola. The manager, Victor called me when I left my scarf and held it for me. great experience
Such a LOVELY room! 5-6 different places/levels to dine. I believe the chef is from northern Italy and he is always present when we dine there (6-7 times). Great wine list, great food. It is definitely on the high side of cost, but that being said, totally worth it!!
Very convenient to Michigan Avenue shops & hotels. The food and service were both outstanding.
Great spot for better than average Italian food. It’s always a great bet
Three of us had a Sunday brunch. The service is always friendly and welcoming. Two guests had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and I had the steak and eggs. Everything was perfect and I highly recommend coming here.
Very good service, food selection was great. My only complaint was that the pasta dish was more than a little Al-Dente, I realized this after eating a bit and very much enjoyed the sauce so did not return.
Food is excellent. Lovely atmosphere. Reasonable noise level.
We go here all the time!! The staff is so friendly! Great place to grab drinks or a bite to eat
Excellnt find, a real gem
felt rushed by waiter. host was great. drinks were great. good mediocre
Food always good and service exceptional. Hard reservation to get but always enjoy when I go there
Make sure you order the calimari fritti. It is a special treat.
We've been here numerous times and it will not disappoint. It's a very nice place with excellent food. The ambience is not over-the-top Italian but more like your neighborhood Italian "place". We shared a butternut squash tortellini appetizer which was very tasty and my wife had the branzino and I had the osso bucco. The fish was great, done perfectly and the accompanying veggies looked and tasted as if they just came off the farm in Italy. My osso bucco fell off the bone but I couldn't find any marrow. The wait staff is very professional and know what they're doing and talking about but it seems that sometimes the food gets backed up in the kitchen and comes in spurts. All in all, 4 thumbs up (except for the restrooms that could use some regular attention!). P.S. The pasta itself here is on the thicker rather than the more delicate side.
When we arrived early for our reservation, there were many open tables, but we still waited for 20 mins to be seated. We then waited at least 15 mins to get water, had to ask for a specials menu and didn’t get bread (cold) and drinks until 10 minutes after that. The food was excellent, but even after the manager explained to our section why there were delays, service didn’t improve. An offer of a glass of wine, appetizer or dessert would have gone a long way towards appeasing us. I would consider going back but definitely not before a show.
Group of 59 before us. No menus. Had to wait for table, water and bread. Manager finally explained delay but offered us nothing. A free drink would have been nice. Service was very slow all night. Fortunately food was delicious! No busboys in sight; waiters were doing all of the work. If you have big party, you should make sure you have more wait staff for next group.
Very disappointing. Table wasn’t ready when we arrived, and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated despite our reservation. Another 10 minutes before we received the wine menu. Service was very slipshod and we had to actually ask to receive a food menu. When we received our appetizers (tri-color sausage and peppers, and avocado salad) , our hope was restored that we might salvage the meal because they were very good. But then our hopes were dashed when the main courses arrived. My veal scallopini was at best lukewarm, and the three strands of linguini that accompanied it were embarrassing. My wife ordered pasta with shrimp, and had asked if the vodka sauce could be swapped out for a marinara sauce. You guessed it: the pasta arrived with the vodka sauce, which my wife can’t eat because of the cream. When we complained to the waiter, he said he would check with the chef. He returned to tell us that the chef confirmed that there was no cream in the sauce. I tasted it: there was definitely cream in the sauce. Even the waiter remarked that the sauce had looked pink to him, but what did he know?
The piece-de-resistance: I had made a special request to have a candle in our dessert for my wife’s birthday, but the dessert arrived without one.
A word to the wise: dine here at your risk.
Great food, attentive service and nice spot that doesn’t feel overly touristy.
Sausage and peppers appetizer was mediocre.
Sausage was not grilled but sautéed
Men’s room has mold growing in it
Amazing service, delicious food!!
Dinner was terrific. George, our server, was attentive but not overly. He knew the menu extremely well and he answered all our questions. The food is amazing. We had pasta and the pasta was perfect. They have a great wine list too. We had a great Barolo. The apple dessert was off the charts great. This place is a winner and we will be back.
Good food. Not the fastest or friendliest service. But going again.
We very much enjoyed our dining experience and will definitely return.
This has become our favorite restaurant when we go to Chicago. Excellent service, the food is consistently fantastic, great location and wonderful atmosphere.
Osteria del Pastaio is a very nice Italian restaurant . We arrived about 7:15 with reservations and were seated immediately. The noise level as we walked in was extreme, and I commented that I forgot to bring my ear plugs. But the waiter took us to the back where we were able to converse.
The food was great. Service was great.
At 8:00PM the music came on. Table next to us got up to leave, they commented that they usually arrive earlier to avoid the noise. We took note of that. We will return, just not stay for desert.
