The service was fantastic and the place was very cute. The food was pretty good. I really enjoyed my food but my husband didn’t care for his. He had the lobster bisque and he said it was over salted and watered down. He also had the steak and it was cooked well but under seasoned. I had the cheese wheel pasta and it was really good.

I’m giving it 1 star bc if you’re like me, you read the last few reviews or go straight to the 1’s. It’s rare that I give this designation to a restaurant, but it’s my hope if you go, you lower your service expectations. For me, service is EVERYTHING. We dine out weekly @ on par or nicer places bc we want to relax, have fun and be treated special. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 15 yrs & never heard of it prior to 6 mos ago, but didn’t go bc of the 3.8 Yelp rating (now I know why). A tourist I ran into earlier in the day raved about the pasta in cheese wheel so we went. Here’s what I loved - the pasta with pecorini. Aka Pecorini Al Tartufo. A 10/10- not sure it was worth $48 ($63 w tax & tip) bc @ end of the day it’s pasta w cheese, but was by far the highlight of our meal. The lamb chops were good, not outstanding. Here’s why the 1 star. They’re pushy. I spent 5 yrs in the restaurant industry - there’s nothing I despise more than lack of transparency or upselling a customer in a pushy way. We dine out weekly & our checks over $200. I actually drank less bc I was so put off by our waiter “C.” When I asked for a wine rec, he immediately went to the most expensive one without offering mid tier options- ok, but then he was condescending when I asked him to recommend a glass under $17. He was also very rushed- nothing was calm or relaxed about his ability to do his job bc he had too many tables. The AC also wasn’t working well, so on top of being rushed, getting the hard upsell, we were hot. It’s also loud inside. I ignored bc I didn’t want his energy to ruin our night, but during the course of our meal, we ended up talking to tables on either side of us (about the pasta wheel dish) only to have them both share they hated the rude staff. Lastly, they’ll play the still or sparkling water game (without telling you there’s a charge or offering tap). The table next to me was fuming about that. I knew immediately that was their game, so I clarified tap. Just ick.

Out of two dishes - one was amazing and the other terrible, as if two different chefs cooked it :/ I really wanted to like them, but not yet …

Although the food and service were very good, the prices for main courses here have gotten very high, including an extra charge for water and bread!

The setting is nice but the ambience is nothing special. In a good location if you're staying in one of the downtown hotels, which we were. The food is very good. I had the Rigatoni Con Pesto that was delicious and added the Fennel Sausage (which was over cooked). My wife had the Gnocchi Ragu Di Carne which she liked very much. Service was both prompt and attentive on this visit. The dessert of flourless chocolate cake and the profiteroles were average at best. I'd go again but it's not on my short list of places to choose from when in Chicago.
