It was good but expensive for the quality. I've paid less for better food and service, this was a 3.5 star restaurant at a 5 star price.
It was amazing, the manager and staff went out of their way to make us feel extra special and welcomed. The food was amazing. Service was impeccable!
Just reopened and they did a good job food was great but it's virus time and they just opened
So great!! Thank you for a wonderful expletive!! Elena the hostess was amazing
It was closed. Why would you list it as open and it wasn’t? We had to find somewhere else to eat.
I just do not believe they quality of food was worth the price. For one, the ceviche, I could tell, was seasoned with Old Bay. That's a big no for me. My fiance's Lamb Osso Buco tasted as if they used Campbell's beef stew.
The service started out to be good then went down hill once we got our drinks and apps. Which the apps had no flavor to them. We also ordered a lobster pasta that was recommended by the waiter and it has muscles in it as well. We had the order Split and although it was a lot of food, it didn't taste good. All of the shells were empty, the crab was so chewy and the pasta was dry. And to top it all off that plate cost $89. We didn't make it a big deal becuase it seemed pointless as no one checked on us until we got the bill.
Pleasant evening, but didn't rock my world. Everything was good, but a bit too cosmopolitan mechanical. Came away with no sense of personality of the restaurant; it was interchangeable with many others that I have eaten at and do not remember by name or place. In a group where conversation was going to carry the evening and I wanted good food in a supporting role rather than demanding center stage, OSETRA was a good choice based on menu options and atmosphere.
In fairness to OSETRA, fears of COVID-19 are sweeping the country and having a huge impact on the hospitality industry. I have some question whether I got an accurate read on the "normal" OSETRA.
We were visiting San Diego and were looking for somewhere to have a nice dinner date. After reading tons of reviews I chose Osetra.
When entering there is a weird smell in the restaurant. The ambiance was perfect a date/special occasion. Food looks awesome, but the taste was good not great.
Fresh fish very delicious. Bread and butter is superb. Amount of fish is small.
Value for money , delicious food and great service.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Osetra. The food was great and the service was excellent. It is in a great location in the Gaslamp Quarter and the setting is very nice. This is a 'repeat' in our minds.
This was best restaurant we ate at in San Diego. Excellent service we all had seafood and we couldn’t decide what was best. So many choices on menu it was difficult to choose
This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and it did not disappoint. The service was extraordinary from start to finish. We shared the octopus as an appetizer. Our main dishes were scallops and swordfish, cooked just right. Dessert was light and fluffy lemon cake. Yum! Wait service was wonderful (Arturo). Highly recommend for a fine dining experience.
For the prices, the food portions were good but the taste was just ok. The bus staff was very good and attentive, the wait staff was not quite that of the dining experience you expect at a place like this. Also, per the website, parking was to be validated. When asked about the validation we were told "sorry, we don't validate anymore. We need to take that off the website." Kind of disappointing considering we just spent a good amount of money on the dinner and drinks and then had to pay double the parking fee in the parking garage because of Osetra's lack of updating their information.
Nice seafood place, everything a bit pricy but also very tasty so worth it.
This is a truly fabulous restaurant. Service was outstanding. Food was excellent.
I rated ambiance low because for the second time we had to dine with our coats on as did other diners due to air conditioning. We did complain but nothing changed. The tables near the bar area are uncomfortable!!
Restaurant was outstanding, money well spent.
OpenTable has $8 parking for Osetra listed at Horton Plaza parking, email said park and ask for validation at resturant. Osetra and Horton Plaza parking does not honor that, we paid $25 for parking.
Horrible. We were there for Valentine’s Day at 8pm with a reservation. The evening was completely Mis-managed, and the servers and kitchen could not keep up with demand. Friendly staff, but after 2 and a half hours we still hadn’t received our meal and had to leave. The manager comped our wine and soup, and we walked down the street and just got a burger and beer. Made for a funny Valentine story anyway!
Being Valentines Day, it's not fair to judge Osetra on just this experience. We've dined here in the past and it's been much better. The place was packed and the servers were running wild. Even though loud, you could still hold a conversation without screaming. My main complaint was that my food was luke warm when I received it, I also feel the prices are on the high side, mostly due to the location of the restaurant.
Valentines Day is always a sh*tshow downtown, but making a reservation on OpenTable, confirming we would get a nice table, and checking in with the restaurant to confirm the menu details was a total breeze. Exceptional service from the host staff during a stressful/crowded/over-demanding night, but my only disappointment was forgetting our server’s name because he deserved recognition for handling his section’s crowd. Lots of stuffy couples with their noses in the air, haha. Bravo to he and the rest of the wait staff last night. Well done. The chefs and kitchen already know how it’s done and continue to deliver year after year. I can always expect delicious fare that never disappoints. 😘😘😘
Food was great just wish our server would of checked on us more often. But good place will go again
Valentine’s Day dinner with my fiancé was a disappointment. His steak was significantly undercooked, and my salmon lacked flavor. The deserts also lacked in that they seemed pre-packaged and lackluster. The music resembled a night club and did not create the ambiance desired for a romantic meal. I expected much more for the $250 price tag.
Food was overpriced for quality. Steaks were ok, but near room temp when we got it. Service was not good at all for what you come to expect from a high-end steakhouse (inattentiveness was major issue). we had to flag down waitress when we wanted something.
While visiting San Diego, we celebrated Valentine's Day at this restaurant. The service was outstanding as was the food. Everything was prepared perfectly. It was a nice romantic setting and close enough to our hotel to walk.
I had dinner with friends for one of their birthdays. It was our third time dining here. I had the Sea Bass which was amazing and cooked to perfection! One friend had the stuffed sole and one had the lamb chops. They both said their dishes were great! We shared a serving of the lobster mashed potatoes which I could have had as a main course -- they are that good!!! We will definitely be back!
Food was great. Service was outstanding. My only complaint was the size of table.
We brought our friends to Ostera for the food and the experience of the wine tower. We were terribly disappointed that the staff was not climbing the tower due to a problem. The food was wonderful, as we’ve experienced in the pas, but we were not happy that the spectacular wine tower (which is greatly advertised) was not operating. I hope the owner gets everything working for our next visit to San Diego.
Our waiter went above and beyond and made us feel like regulars. He was very friendly and knowledgeable of the specials and menu and helped us feel at home making sure we got exactly what we were in the mood for. Our filets were out of this world and I really enjoyed the lobster mashed potatoes. We don’t remember his name but we hope he gets the kudos he deserves! Thanks for a great date night!
Very bad cuts of beef around the table. Seafood was over cooked. Prices are way to high for the lack of quality. We had an attentive server - but the overall experience lacked what you would expect at this price range. The atmosphere was run down- the wine tower was not in operation and bathrooms were more like a gas station, not fine dining. Skip this joint!
Loved it!! Would come here again!
Last Friday 1/24- I wrote on yelp
Oh my gosh! Our reservations were at 6:30 and it is 8:10 and we were served our side dishes but still waiting for our main courses. Hilarious our waiter said - did u enjoy ur food and are u ready for dessert !!! Where is our main course ? Who runs this restaurant ! Literally writing this review as we continue to wait for our food! Not coming back! How do you forget the main course!
I actually kind of pike our evening but i and mt husband got really sick so cannot speak highly about food quality. I also belive it is pretty limited menu.
Excellent service, great space, helpful and courteous staff, great menu selection. Will definitely recommend to friends, colleagues, and family. The best restaurant and dining experience in downtown San Diego so far!
Osetra was terrific. Just what we wanted and staff was so nice.
Although this is on the face of it a sea food restaurant, I had a wonderful New York Strip Sirloin steak here. Super quality food.
Was my first and last time on this place.
Even with reservation we have to wait 30 minutes and the service was not so good as the food.
The oysters are as the same size as a coin
I would have felt cheated spending $60 on the meal I had and our bill was over $300. The food was absolutely awful. Cheap cuts of meat improperly cooked. Boxed pasta. Raw brussel sprouts. And to top it off STONE COLD pecan pie? What a joke! My husband and I were legitimately angry when we left. The chef should be fired.
