We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Orto. They offer plenty of menu options and everybody was pleased with their selection. Tasty dishes and visually appealing presentation. Attentive server. We didn’t feel rushed. We would gladly return.
This real Italian
No heavy tomato sauces
Just excellent well prepared food
Orto is our favourite local restaurant. The food is delicious, with plenty of variety without being overwhelmed by too many extraneous choices. The service is excellent, friendly but unobtrusive. Highly recommended!
The service was first rate and personal. Our server had a lovely Italian accent and understood the ingredients in a helpful way. The dishes are inventive, unique and delicious. The ambiance inside is warm and cosy, the patio decorated with a row of fresh herbs and lovely music. This is a special place.
Stellar service and even better food, attended for a business meeting and will definitely be back again with family and friends. Cheers! Matt D.
Food was very good, the waitress was excellent, but we all found the prices a little high for pasta. Could have put olives and olive oil with bread on the table.
Amazing salads and fresh homemade al dente pasta
Salad of asparagus was excellent but shrimp pasta only had 2 shrimp. lemon desert was excellent
Having the good fortune to travel in Italy some 10 years ago, dining in Orto brought back al those fond memories. Whether dining in Rome or in the small villages of our travels, every time we visit your shop, I think of those places. Thank you again for an enjoyable meal, with our close friends.
We started with the cheese and meat charcuterie board . Good value . You get three or four different types of cheese and two meats with pickled veggies and mustards. Hubby ordered the veal which he said was tender and tasty. I had the asparagus appetizer. Absolutely delicious . It is served with a warm gorgonzola cheese sauce , walnuts and arugula salad . Two people can easily share this dish . They have a nice side patio . The male server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the female server was less informed and generally not great . She was friendly but when we asked her about our charcuterie board she did not know her stuff . Great restaurant nicely decorated. Food is good, servings size are decent . We will go back!
We had an authentic Southern Italian meal. Reminded me of our Sicilian vacation. We had arancini and pastas. Both taste and presentation were excellent. I especially enjoyed pasta al pistachio, which was very light and tasty.
I will be back for a patio lunch or dinner, when the weather finally improves.
The Al limone pasta at orto was super delicious. I would definitely go back for that exact dish!
Disappointing. Main course took 1 1/2 hours to reach our table. Wife's food was good. Mine was tepid. Server would not wear the problem, although other staff made a point of apologizing.
High quality, interesting menu. Excellent preparation and presentation. Deluxe service.
Food was outstanding, service initially was slow to get drinks and food orders, otherwise a lovely evening.
I brought my husband to this restaurant for his 40th birthday and wanted to make it special. It was anything but. We waiting at the entrance for several minutes to be seated. I requested a table for two when I made the reservations to be intimate and personal but was seated at a table of 4. When the waitress brought our dishes we didn't have any cutlery to eat and after waiting several minutes decided to take from another table. The waitress didn't ask about how our dishes were until I was done mine. The waitress didn't refill our wine or water unless asked. When I make the reservation I requested the staff do something special for my husband on this occasion. They said they would put a candle on the dessert. When the dessert was brought to the table there was nothing on it. Thankfully my husband was in the washroom when it was brought and I requested something be done. We were not impressed with his dessert of tiramisu. The night was very disappointing except for the main dish. the service was terrible. Most the night the waitresses we're in the back.
Un buonissimo sapore d’Italia!
Orto has become our favourite upscale restaurant in Ottawa. It starts with warm service that makes you feel at home, an elegant yet unpretentious décor that creates a warm, trendy ambiance and then you get to savour the best wines with the best food! Pure joy all around.
A bit pricey but very good food. Cute place. Nice service
Go, eat their food! Very nice food pairings with creative flavours. Great service.
Great restaurant. Quality produce used to create excellent Italian food. Certainly one of Ottawa's best restaurants.
Food remains amazing at this little neighbourhood gem. I keep coming back for the food. The service remains very slow however and this too hasn’t changed. We skipped dessert as they were too slow to take our order. If the service could be just a bit faster the experience would’ve perfect!
Excellent food, atmosphere and staff attention! Appreciate the tips for our travels in Sicily!
Love Orto! Been three times but this was first time I had to question the temperature of the food. Veal was a bit tough but all in all food very tasty and worth experiencing. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. I’ll be back! Can’t wait to try the patio in nicer weather.
For a place We knew nothing about prior to our visit, we were thoroughly impressed. Atmosphere was great, service was perfect, and most of all the food was amazing. We will definitely be returning customers.
This is by far the best Italian food I’ve had in Ottawa. Having visited Rome I have been on the hunt of authentic Italian cuisine that doesn’t involve copious amounts of sauce and starch.
Orto captures the essence of Italian cuisine with its simple yet delicious Ingredients.
The carpadelle mushroom dish and squid ink pasta are to die for!
Looking forward to many more stellar meals.
Excellent service et suggestion de vin .
Service wasn’t great. Unnecessary wait time to eat and food was not valued correctly based on taste.
It was cold in the restaurant. We had to keep our winter parkas on for a while. We sat at a table for 2. We could not read our menus - no light. We had to use the cell phone flashlight to read the menus. The food and service were great. It was a very cold night but we found it too cold inside.
The menu is very limited when they tell you that they’re out of scallops, veal and smelts. The tenderloin was not tenderloin meat ( meat was tough) and it was soaking in a very salty sauce. Our server was however extraordinary.
if you are close to the door you will be cold. they tell you it will be fine because of the double door and the heater but it really isn't
We had a very pleasant evening and the food was excellent. I would even say outstanding!
Dessert selection lacks of something similar to a fruit salad, or anything where a fruit/fruits would be pivotal. True that this is the winter season.
Service: no specific issue, however some more guidance with the menu, or presentation of it, would be a plus.
I love this linear space and the interior designer used it as well as can be. The plants at 16 inches o.c. were a bit of a bother, though (prevented to lean back).
Music: I did not quite understand the survey’s pictogram in this very respect. Maybe a bit too trendy and impersonal. I am of those who could do without completely, but I know I am a rare case. It was a bit loud, but not to the point of being annoying. A potential of the space seems ignored: ever considered setting the volume in the bar area and fading towards the exit?
I know I am a picky person. That is what will bring me back in a near future.
Great ambiance, great service, the waiters are always around to answer questions or help you with something
We arrived very late for our reservation. The traffic was terrible, downtown a gridlock. We were welcomed with open arms, understanding and courteously. My wine was delicious, the beet salad and pasta with big yummy mushrooms were delicious. Love that they offer 2 portion sizes, the smaller being perfect for me. I will probably go again this week with my sister and highly recommend it. We asked for a quiet table and the one they gave us was tucked away in a corner which was super.
Orto Trattoria is the best Italian restaurant in Ottawa!
Excellent Italian restaurant, food is fantastic! The grilled octopus, the pulpette, and the pasta we had, were very tasty with the right amount of spice!
Delicious food and a wonderful decor.
My boyfriend and I go to Orto frequently - I'm not sure we've ever had a bad dish, let alone a bad meal there - but the supper we had last week stands up as a highlight among highlights. The tempura shrimp! The rabbit ravioli! The carpaccio! The veal! The wine! The service! All the food was incredible (perfectly seasoned, balanced, and prepared) and served in a very pleasant atmosphere. I can particularly commend the fact that we received our food quickly and cheerfully, despite the fact that we arrived just before an 18-person birthday party reservation. Hats off to everybody who made the meal happen, from two foodies. We will definitely be back again, and again, and again.
Had a nice supper at Orto. Food is delicious, decor is lovely ,service was absolutely outstanding. Only drawback...portions are ridiculously small. we ordered rabbit ravioli for $24 and got about 8-10 raviolis. After supper, we went to a fast food to finish eating. Sometimes restaurants forget that people who walk through their doors have one thing in common...they are hungry!
Fantastic, modern and slightly fusion-ish Italian food. Bread service was excellent...the focaccia was light herby delicious with accompanied good quality olive oil. Octopus dish antipasti was excellent. Pasta available in half size perfect as a primi or can be had full size as a main. Pasta cooked perfectly and lightly sauced with oil and butter and herbs.
Delicious dinner, great atmosphere, looking forward to going back.
