Opera Tavern is a beautiful two-storey bar and restaurant in the heart of central London’s theatre land. Located on Catherine Street we are opposite the Drury Lane Theatre, seconds from the Opera House, a stone’s throw from The Strand and a lovely walk across Waterloo Bridge from the South Bank.

A beautiful former pub, the exposed brickwork, bold artwork and flattering low lighting help our two-story restaurant create the perfect atmosphere for a pre-theatre meal or drink. The ground floor houses a long bar with the open grill at one end, and a few tables placed beside the theatre box windows, where guests can watch the world go by.

We specialise in Italian and Spanish influenced tapas and have a charcoal grill on the ground floor where we cook up all manner of stunning small plates.

Pre theatre dinner. The food was delicious. The service was great. They went the extra mile and delivered a birthday dessert which was so appreciated. Very small restaurant which felt dark - maybe some would say cosy - probably better for couples. Couldn’t fault the food though especially the prawns which were amazing!

This is not your typical tavern experience. The restaurant doesn't have beer on tap, but has a wonderful wine list. Definitely not pub food, but far more "gourmet". They have several small plates and entrees, but it seemed that most of the folks on the second floor dining room were taking the Prix Fixe sampler menu which, while pricey, looked exceptional. The staff was very attentive and helpful.

From arriving to leaving I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The staff were friendly, professional, entertaining, enthusiastic but not in your face. The food arrived quickly and was excellent. Thank you everyone at the Opera Tavern for a wonderful evening, I will definitely be back.

We had an amazing experience here. The service was so fast and the food was absolutely amazing and so fresh. The staff were super accommodating and attentive. Thanks to Monica who were kindly serving us tonight. We will definitely come back again.

Excellent service and delicious plates, Delia at the bar was lovely! Definitely get the iberico pork belly and the stuffed couchette flower is phenomenal. Highly recommend for a meal before a show
