First time back in a couple months. Restaurant has same name but appears to be under new ownership. Food was good quality but the menu has been changed and all our favorites such as calamari & sausage, tacos, various pastas are longer available - too bad.

What a disaster! No air conditioning, credit card machine not working, waiter actually described veggie wrap as “rad,” a mixed up drink order, my iced tea glass had lipstick on the rim (not mine!), there were flies everywhere, the veggie wrap and burger took about 30 minutes to arrive (there was only one other table of people who were ate the dessert stage), I told the waiter about a garlic allergy...and my wrap had huge chunks of garlic in it. I could go on but it’s pointless. No wonder the place was empty. Avoid this place entirely!

When I first read the reviews for One29, I was overwhelmed with all the negative reviews. Since I like to be adventurous with the food I visit, I decided to try it anyway. We visited on a quiet Tuesday night and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all - we were the only customers there. I’m including that detail not to criticize the restaurant, but because it coincides with the next detail I’m going to mention - the service we received was excellent! Even though we were seated outside (by our choice), our server frequently checked on us and our waters were always filled. I’ve noticed that a lot of reviews on here criticize the service, but our server and busser were attentive, friendly, and efficient. Now a note about the food. The menu itself is quite limited, in a sense. The friend that I chose to dine with doesn’t eat fish, so her options for entree were limited. She chose two appetizers. I was impressed by the size of the appetizers! I tried some of her portobello mushroom salad and it was delicious. On the other hand, the size of the entrees were a tad smaller compared to other restaurants. I ordered the hanger steak and I felt the portion to be a bit small (compared to the hanger steaks that I’ve had at other restaurants nearby). That’s the only reason I rated the “value” 3 stars, due to the limited menu and the smaller entree sizes. Otherwise, the food was delicious. Overall, I enjoyed my time at One29. We had the macaron plate for dessert (we got 7 macarons for $10 and that compensates for my small entree). Did I like One29? Yes. Would I visit again? While the service was good and I liked the staff, I’m an adventurous eater and I like trying different things. I would probably visit again if One29 decided to expand their menu.

Foolishly made a reservation for lunch on a Monday. Only 2 tables were occupied. Manager(?) or owner(?) was the only server, he seemed quite unhappy and unfriendly. We were seated, given water and menus and then at least 10 minutes went by. There was unhappiness in or just outside the kitchen. We walked out and went down the street to our go to place for lunch. 129 needs new management or overhall. Can't comment on the food.

The place was literally empty on Father’s Day , and they were out of several of the white wines on the menu. The $24 fish and chips was the most I’ve ever paid for fish and chips and it was also the least food. 1 six- inch piece of fish, 6 thick French fries and some peas. Not good value

Good menu although a little scant on choices. No "specials?" One recommendation would be to lose the popcorn served on the table instead of breadsticks, etc. for starting.

We've been to One29 a few times since the beginning of the year. We've had ups and downs in service and food, but on Friday it felt like they were finding their rhythm. Service much improved, and we enjoyed the appetizers we shared. We both had a nice Sauvingnon Blanc off the wines-by-the-glass list, which were reasonably priced. We went to see Nanny Assis play (who is amazing, btw). Live music and later dinner reservations are hard to come by in New Canaan, so we'd love for this place to stay around!

One29 is the worst managed restaurant I've seen in years. This place is SCREAMING for new management! We want the place to succeed, so we keep trying it (this was our 5th time), but the place is a disaster. Tonight, it took us over 30 minutes after being seated just to get drinks. And it took another hour to get food. That's right - food took more than 90 minutes. And when it came, only 3 of our 4 meals came, so we had to wait another 5 minutes (as our food cooled) for everyone to be served. Sadly, this was coming in at 8pm, well after their dinner rush. Moreover, the place was not full, as we had our choice of several tables, and the restaurant emptied as we sat there. As has happened on most visits, we ordered wine from the list, and they didn't have what we ordered. Tonight, it happened twice. The first time tonight, they didn't have the wine at all. The second time, they had the same label, but not the vintage on the wine list. Considering the wine-list featured a stellar vintage, this was a big disappointment. (Something similar has happened on each prior visit, except when we went for lunch and didn't order wine.) Tonight, they gave us a song & dance about changing the wine list and updating their inventory -- but the problem has persisted for months. In their defense, I must add that they comped our second bottle of wine after I pointed out that this was not an isolated incident. We also were barraged by a plethora of servers. Sounds good until you realize none knew what the other had already done, and none seemed to actually be responsible for our table. So we had people asking us the same questions repeatedly. All in all, an unpleasant experience.

I’ll tell you this though after posting my review ONE29 got in touch with me and apologized for our dining experience and invited us back in as their guests. That’s fantastic customer service!

This place was AWFUL!! Untrained and unmanaged staff — when we were finally able to get their attention— could not get orders right. When we eventually got three of the four orders, food was ordinary at best. My wife never did get her order. Complaining made no difference. If there was a manager he never showed up. This place used to be nice. Not any longer. Avoid this place.

It takes a lot for me to be so disappointed in a restaurant that I want to write a negative review of it. I figured I would give One29 a try for Mother's Day because it is in New Canaan. That quickly became a choice I would deeply regret. The best things about this experience were the live guitar player and the re-filling of the water glasses. This experience was poor from start to finish. There is no place to hang a coat or a hat, which seems odd. We had to ask for drink menus after having been seated for almost ten minutes and then we had to ask for a wine list separately. The waitress had no idea what whiskeys they had. The bartender also didn't seem to know even though he was standing behind the bar. My father had to get up and walk over to the bar to see what they had. When we finally ordered a bottle of wine to have with dinner the manager told the waitress that she should bring a bucket of ice over for the bottle (which I've never seen suggested for a bottle of red before). The appetizers were bland: my crab toast was toast thrown into a bowl with soupy crab meat at the bottom. My dinner (the burger) was overloaded with onions and the bun was soggy by the time it was presented. The wait staff was disinterested, poorly trained, and unapologetic. If this place has any chance of surviving in New Canaan it needs to train it's staff and upgrade it's food offerings. I will never go back to this restaurant again.

First time here since it changed hands - my God it was alfull. We went for mother's day. Everyone in the party did not finish the meal. I ordered fish and chips, fish wasn't cook NOR chips. How can someone not know how to cook French Fry's? Wife has salad and son had a pizza which was stone cold. When then server came over to ask if everything is ok, they asked multiple times we stopped eating and left all the food, you think they would have gotten it! The table next to us was complaining too. We didn't want to say anything negative to the kids that are the wait staff - I hope Managment is reading this

129 is running out of second chances. They lost our order. Just a few minutes after taking it, they came and told us the printer failed, so they needed to retake the order. But if the order was in the system. . . Then it took ages to get the food out to us - despite the place being half empty. And when it did come, there were things missing. Not too stellar for Mothers Day lunch. The restaurant has now completely revamped the menu, so even the consistently good holdover items from Chef Luis (simple stuff like tacos) are now gone. I hope they can get it together soon.

I spotted ONE29 Restaurant & Bar were serving Fish and Chips on its menu and being British I couldn't resist. Chef Sean didn't let our group of six down. The chips (fries) were thick cut and when I asked him, he confirmed that they have been twice cooked! The Chatham cod was flaky and succulent and the tempura batter crispy. The plate arrived with malt vinegar and English peas. We couldn't resist a side of crispy sprouts either - delicious. Looking forward to returning for brunch!

First, the food choices were few, not too many to choose from; in addition, not many choices for beer (draft or bottle) either. Second, the music band on Friday was not good, noisy but low quality, rather disturbing of my dining experience. Food quality is at low side as well. Our server ms. Hayley was nice though, which is the only bright point. Lastly, the restaurant did not honor the 1,000 dining points for my reservation on Friday night when it clearly mentioned that it was 1,000 point for reservation on Open Table booking site. When I called on Saturday, the lady on the phone confirmed that my family dined in the restaurant Friday night; but the points are still not rewarded to me. I think this is a dishonorable act, which will damage the restaurant’s reputation & credibility. I hope the restaurant will treat all of its patrons fairly and honorably in the future.

It was tough to tell what was worse the terrible food or the inept nearly nonexistent service. Nothing was seasoned properly. Bacon uncooked on the date appetizer. No truffle flavor in the truffle burrata. Fish and chips...tasteless fried cod with no sauce because the chef won't pair it with anything except soggy fries. But if you enjoy cilantro get the gluten free brownie and the overly pungent rosewater custard dessert both of which were covered in a blanket of it. Ple as se note that both desserts were inedible even after we picked it all off. This restaurant needs some help in the kitchen and the front of the house. It was so bad it was comical. Don't spend your money here go elsewhere in New Canaan.

I wish I could be more positive but everything was just off. It was a very quiet Sunday evening with only four tables seated and there was no rhythm amongst the staff. Our waiter was great and tried his best but the food seemed to be a challenge for the kitchen. The house salad and crab toast were good but lacking flavor. The Bavet steak was tough and when replaced with Fish and chips, the fish had no breaking and was raw. I understand it was a new menu so maybe they will get the kinks out.

This replacement for Chef Luis maintains some of the best dishes of its predecessor, such as the Picadilla Salad, the various tacos, and the chimichurri steak, which is a plus. We went on a Sunday night, and we went early, so it was very slow / quiet. The service was excellent and attentive. They were out of shrimp, so they offered my son the alternative of having all lobster in the "Lobster & Shrimp Fettucine". He was thrilled. The only weak spot was my wife's "Clam Linguini", which was too salty. She mentioned it to the server, who insisted on bringing a complimentary dessert to make up for it. (This was absolutely not necessary; my wife had finished the linguini before she said anything, and only intended to alert the chef.) Overall, a very good experience, and we'll be back soon.

Unfortunately this restaurant has a long way to go before it will be competitive with all the other excellent restaurants in New Canaan. The service was terrible for the first hour. No one was even able to bring us 2 glasses of wine after asking different servers and the hostess several times. Had to wait too long for the main courses which were quite taste less and nothing special at all. I had the Churasco steak and my husband had a "croque monsieur" which was really quite awful. Just a brioche bun with a little melted cheese on top.... The waitress we had after the first 45" was very nice and seemed to be the only one who was working and who would make eye contact with the customers. Sorry but we will not be going back anytime soon .

Not really my type of restaurant with the menu. I was expecting the old Chef Luis, but the food was delicious. The service was good given the restaurant was hopping. The wine was excellent especially because any bottle over $50.00 was half price for the month of January. We totally enjoyed that perk. I would go back again.
