About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Good for groups
The name Ombra literally means ‘shadow’, in Venetian dialect it’s the familiar term for a small glass of wine, which originates from the traditional wine sellers retreating to the shade of St. Mark's Tower to shield the wines from the hot sun. Similarly, Ombra is a place where you can retreat to the shade, protected from the hot spots of London, and chill out at a place that is yours, taking your time over fresh homemade pasta, seasonal vegetables, fresh fish and meat, organic wines and good old conversation.

Ombra is one of my favourite restaurants in London. The food is exceptional with lovely people working there. On a summers day it’s so lovely to be out on the terrace. Inside is also great.

I really wanted to like this restaurant as Im local. When it first opened 11 years ago the reviews were not great so I avoided it but I believe its changed hands a few times over that period but I could be wrong. After all this time I finally decided to try it. The young waiter that welcomed/served us was lovely. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it. 2 Limoncella Spritz(£11.00 each) were nice and the cost in line with other restaurants in the area. But..... the food was really disappointing. Entre - White asparagus (£10.00) I think had parsley springled over it and it was really ordinary. The pork skewers (£5.00) were tiny and had a rather disappointing tomato(?) sauce over them The mains - Tagliolini (£19.00) and Ravioli (£18.00) were both a bit tasteless. We were given a bottle of water and bread even though we hadnt asked for it and we thought it was complimentary but we got charged £2.50 Dessert - Chocolate cake (£7.00) was described by my friend as OK but it would have been better with some sort of sauce as it was a bit dry on its own. A glass of red wine (£11.50) that was suggested by one of the waiters was quite nice. The waiter was also very nice. With a 12.5%service charge of £11.88 the bill was £106.88. So not worth the money when there are any number of restaurants in the area where the food is so much better. Sadly I wont be returning any time soon.

Beautiful interiors and lovely atmosphere, with friendly service—but sadly, the food didn’t live up to expectations. For a place that specialises in pasta, every dish was surprisingly bland and lacked proper texture, even the starter. The mussels and asparagus were well seasoned, but the mussels were tiny and came with barely any sauce. A real shame, as the setting deserved better food.

Regularly changing Italian menu, the kind of place I find myself going back to over and over again. Favourites are always the snacks and pastas - creative and attentive cooking. Cosy atmosphere and good natural wine selection. Highly recommend

I made a reservation through open table. When I arrived the table wasn't prepared because nobody checked open table, basically, I get a table just because there was a free table and another client didn't arrive before us. I needed the table for 10people.the person in charge didn't give me any solution and we had to eat in a table no for 10people. If you are no checking open table why do you use its service? Nobody apologised for this. WE HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH £25 FOR PUTTING A CAKE ON A PLATE !!! and bring the cake when the waitress wanted and because of this, she ruined the whole thing. Putting the cake on the table just like something else. When it is an important moment when we are talking about a birthday. If you are going to charge this amount for this, which it is the first time I see this in my whole life, do it professionally. We had to ask to clean the table 3 times. They mentioned a charge for this service but nobody said the amount, which now I understand because nobody in the right mind pays £25 for it. we gave you a bag with the birthday cake and there was a very expensive chocolate box in it too. We asked to bring the birthday cake, what was my surprise when I saw the chocolates on the table too. This was a present, nobody told you to do that and if you don't know just ask. I asked for the chocolate bag to put them back and one member of the kitchen was quite rude to me because I asked for it. I think that when you have a table with nearly £400bill and all these issues at least you can offer a drink like a shot. DONT BORTHER TO SEND AN EMAIL TO THEM BECAUSE THEY DONT USE THAT EITHER.
