Chef Erik De Marchi, born and raised in Imola, Italy- followed his passion of choice and graduated from the IAL culinary academy of Emilia-Romagna (Italy). In 2002 Chef Erik came to Los Angeles and worked with many Italian restaurants until her felt it was time to create his own experience. Oliver's Osteria, named after his son (who was born the same day he opened), is a culmination of Chef Erik's dream of being a father and owning his own restaurant.

Great food and service - highly recommend for Italian in Laguna
The food at Oliver's never disappoints. It is true upscale Italian Food. I always look forward to the specials chef Erik De Marchi has come up with on any given night. One of my favorites is the Brasato Pasta- Short rib with TAGLIATELLE pasta. I can't describe how delicious that dish is.
Gio, Igor, Gianfranco, Alessio, Marco, Stefano and the rest of the servers, bussmen, and runners, always make you feel welcome.
And on Friday's, Jeff Iacono plays atmospheric music and sings in Italian, Potrugese and sometimes Andy Gibb.
Always a great night at Oliver's Osteria in Laguna Beach at the Hive in the Canyon.
Great food, nice outdoor setting
Service was rushed and he didn’t seem to care about us
My wife and I brought some friends to Oliver’s for their first time this past week and had an amazing dinner and experience as always. The new fall menu is great. I’m always impressed and always look forward to our next visit with Erik, Gianfranco and the entire Oliver’s team! Ciao!
Our evening was exceptional. The service and food was excellent. We will be back to sample more of the offerings which looked so good.
Had an incredible dinner with my wife and a friend to celebrate her birthday. Went on a Wednesday evening and everyone seated outside under the tent and lights seemed to be having as wonderful a time as we did. Started with an excellent wine recommendation to pair with our meals. Stuffed zucchini blossoms starter was both light and rich, with a light and perfectly fried breading around the very flavorful stuffing. My veal osso bucco was incredibly flavorful and tender and served over a delicious saffron risotto. My wife had the pappardelle tartufate with perfectly seasoned and cooked pasta and savory mushroom sauce. Our friend had never tried cacio e pepe (my wife and I had tried previously and loved it), but was very impressed with how something seemingly so simple could be so complex and delicious. The waiter was very kind and brought out a complimentary panna cotta that was very silky and creamy to recognize the birthday celebration. Also squeezed in some profiteroles and a tarte tatin, but we left with leftovers to enjoy the next day (portions were generous). An excellent meal and a memorable evening.
Great food and service. A bit strange eating in the parking lot but totally worth it! We will be back!!
I come here frequently and love it! Great food! Great service! Great cocktails! Indoor and outdoor dining! Love the Pasta Bolognese, so good, also the Branzino, or Sole if only the mood for seafood...and Spaghetti with Clams, favorite Italian in Laguna Beach!
Awesome! Great food. Great service!
Excellent food but eating in the parking lot with so little effort at improving the ambience...
Loce this place!!
The food was a little too salty
The pastas and branzino that we ordered needed salt. A little bland. The beef carpaccio and creme brûlée were yummy though.
Real Italian from Italians. Loved it. Giovani was the bomb mixer and I left stumbling :)
Really good food. Obnoxious table of 6 next to us for part of our dinner which was the only downer.
Everything was delicious! I highly recommend the Cacio e Pepe and the Eggplant Parmesan. The service was excellent as well.
Very nice outdoor dining----tables spaced well. Food very fresh tasting, done well, service very good.
Absolutely delicious! Our server was fantastic. Only complaint is I wish the food portions were bigger... too yummy to stop eating. But, I guess it’s to my benefit that portion sizes were the size that they were... This was our first visit to Oliver’s and definitely not the last. 😋😋
The music next door distracts from this classy restaurant.
Great food! Great place
The only place for authentic (not Americanized)Italian food that I know In Orange County. It’s amazing!
Absolutely loved every dish we had! From the stuffed calamari to the delicious ravioli, I don't think you could go wrong with any of the menu items.
This restaurant is by far the best Italian food in south county!! Homemade pastas, fresh ingredients and the presentation is awww inspiring!! We ordered octopus & carpaccio to start with. Yummo!!!! For the entree’s we had the Halibut, the pasta w/ sausage, burrata salad & the ribeye steak. All were unbelievably good!!
Because of Covid they had all the tables set out front under a big tent spaced appropriately. There was live music which was not too loud, but perfect!! If you want true authentic Italian food you must try this place!!
The food, drinks, and service was amazing!
Our first date anniversary. Service was awesome!! And the food was yummy!!
Oliver's Osteria is a local gem on Laguna Canyon, Laguna Beach. The Restaurant is owned by the Italian Chef, De Marchi who worked and trained at Angelini in West Hollywood.
The food is authentic and the flavors really pop. The service is very attentive and the waiters are all Italian. This is the closest experience to dining on the Amalfi Coast or on the Island of Capri. Dining al fresco is truly enjoyable ! The wine list is extensive.
I highly recommend Oliver's Osteria and it is definitely the best Italian restaurant in Laguna Beach !
I just love this place and frequent it! Great food! Great service! Great cocktails! I am thrilled to have another favorite restaurant in Laguna Beach! We have good Italian in Laguna Beach but Oliver’s has surpassed the others and to me is No. 1! I have not had one item on the menu that isn’t delicious! I take out of town guests here when visiting as well! Great for dates, families, friends, Special occasion! Cheers to the chef and staff!
We dine here often, and normally I give it five stars across-the-board. But something was very off on Monday night. We felt it as soon as we were seated. With the exception of the hostess, who was excellent, our waiter (and the manager) were not what we’re used to. Opon further investigation we discovered it was the owner’s night off.
I guess things are not the same when the boss isn’t there? That’s a shame.
If Monday night had been our first time it would definitely have been our last.
Consistency is important!
Dear DrLaura, Thank you so much for your feedback, we appreciate your time. We are so sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience. Can you please provide more info, for example who was your server (if you remember their name) was it more service or food? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Grazie Mille, Oliver's Osteria Management
Great food and experience. Live music would make for better ambience.
Great food! But we were packed in there, way too close for social distancing.
Unfortunately, the music from the bar/eatery next door interferes with the ambiance of Oliver's.
Excellent food and service
Food consistently good and fantastic service
Food came cold and when I asked for it to be heated.. no apology...
Good food. Good service
We love this place but what a downer of an experience Sunday night was. Reservations at 8pm, but service was less than good. Food was mediocre at best... so disappointing!! No real specials to speak of and the 2 orders of Raviolis were over cooked ... not the same experiences we have had in the past 6 months. We will go back but on a tues or wed night and hope for better. :/
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Olivers! I had the pasta with lamb Ragu and my husband had a special lobster pasta dish and both of them were terrific. No lacking in flavor here! The staff kept really busy even though they were short two people but that did not stop them from giving great service.
It’s a family run restaurant and they take really good care of you. We will be back.
This restaurant is both really good and really bad. Really good are the desserts we have tried (a perfectly made creme brûlée better than the best), the wine list, fantastic beef carpaccio, and the service. The ambiance is very pleasant outside; haven't been inside.
Really bad is the pasta. Alas, these folks from Italy don't know how to make good pasta.
Nervy of me? Not really. The problem is in cities like Bologna and Rome the locals are used to the food they grew up on so they think it is fine but it is not good to others. Much of Italy has pasta to dream about, ranging from the famous ravioli in Capri to the classic, lighter and a bit more creative pastas in Venice and Milano, even in Sorrento. In these cities you can find delicate pastas with distinctly flavored and not heavy sauces and ravioli fillings. Always ask what region or city the chef is from ... and the owner. We didn't here as in CA Italian food is rarely bad.
At Oliver the noodles don't seem made with Semolina and are chewy, thick, pasty and almost tough. On top of that, the sauces either are very thick with a rich cream-based sauce or a thick meat sauce with little liquid. The flavor of the bolognese is good but its spaghetti is as described. I actually would order it again but ask for spaghettini aka angel hair pasta and that the sauce be on the side so I can make it less thick via a side of tomato sauce. (I won't tell them what I am doing until it is too late for an objection!) If you are not careful, you will find yourself with pasta so dense that if you do manage to chew it long enough to swallow it, you will learn an hour or two later that it is indigestible. I stopped eating more quickly than did my husband who was in great discomfort until 10am the next day. My discomfort ended about 4am.
There are some good dishes here but get a lot of detail re: before ordering. I suspect their beef may be very good based on the amazing filet mignon in the carpaccio I had.
FABULOUS, as usual! Osteria Oliver's is one of the few authentic trattoria's in Orange County!
