About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for business meals
  • Neighborhood gem

Nestled in the heart of historic Westminster, between Westminster Abbey and St James’s Park, lies the Old Queen Street Cafe — a British Brasserie offering breakfast, lunch, coffee, cocktails, and dinner.

Led by Chef Elliot Spurdle (formerly of The Wolseley and The Delaunay), our menu highlights Britain’s finest seasonal ingredients, blending the charm of traditional London cafés with elevated comfort and style.

Surrounded by heritage, OQS reflects its historic location. With the political journal UnHerd upstairs and the Palace of Westminster just a stone's throw away, the café is infused with history, from Winston Churchill’s salvaged Old War Office floorboards to a curated display of Martin Parr’s evocative photographs of English life.

Step into Old Queen Street Café and experience exceptional food, vibrant conversation, and a setting as memorable as its historical surroundings.

We were received as we were the only customer for the sunday roast lunch in the library ! They were waiting a 20 people group but it was early. The roast beef was exceptional! Medium rare, very tender with duck sweet sauce, served with cooked salad, boiled fried potatoes and carrots and horseradish special sweet sauce… Don’t miss this meal on sunday lunch ! The place in the old library was so cosy and the waitress so nice and with little care. The so british butler was precious. He offered to taste the wine before to choose ! To celebrate our 55 years first meeting in London, it was the best place in London just by the Marathon arrival, so we received to finish two cups of english sparkling wine. Even if the bill is not cheap, once from time to time, for such an anniversary, it’s magic !

We were on the Spectator Event set menu, the starter on which was good (cod cheeks) but the main course (chicken Milanese) was poor.

The food was nice and the ambience was lovely with candles and fantastic decor, but the service was so slow. We were having a set meal before an event (which had been advertised as such). In the end we had to forgo our dessert otherwise we would have been late. We even had to go to the front desk to pay. Disappointing and increasingly stressful. Oh, but they did manage to add a 13% service charge, which being v English, and late for my event, I paid. 😖

Dear Amanda, We are really sorry that we let you down with the service on pre DM event dinner. We would like you to give us another shot to redeem our services. Warm regards, OQSC Team

The Old Library upstairs had been block booked with a set menu for a pre-event dinner. The event, close-by, started at 1930, with doors open at 1800. I planned to get there about 1830-1845. There were about 3 other pairs of diners. It took about 15 to 20 minutes before my order of a mocktail, main course and dessert was taken. The main course arrived before the mocktail, somewhat overpriced, was a good, sharp contrast to the fried, crisp chicken schnitzel. I do not recall seeing the pickled fennel, so I was left with just cabbage salad, a barely adequate main course. The mocktail eventually arrived, but the "Warm Bakewell Brioche Stuffed with Cherry Compote", looked nothing like a brioche, which is a "soft, lightly sweet, rich bread" made with eggs. I declined the offer of a glass of champagne for the slow arrival of the dessert on the grounds I wanted a clear head for the event, but, unspoken, I did not want further delay. The bill included a discretionary service and, for the first time in my several decades, I said "I am not paying that.". The bill was settled at 1847 and I got to the event at 1900. I shall not go back there.
