Great (unexpected!) flavors, consistently impressed - tight ship.
A nice place for a pre-show bite & beverage.
Excellent service, great food, great wine, nice relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely come again! Highly recommended!
I am still here
Service was great, food was OK, wine was OK, ambiance not OK. It's a shouting match to carry on a conversation. Fish sauce in dishes is way overused. It does not belong in Italuan dishes. Yuck. The restaurant needs to indicate all dishes where it is used.
Our server really made quite a difference so we appreciated his genuine care in our experience. The food was excellent and the wine selection just can't be compared to other places. We will be back again...and again!
I'm trying to leave an honest review here, not just click 4-5 stars on each thing and go with it. Let me start by saying that the bartender was VERY accommodating to us when we walked in, greeting us with a warm smile and working with us to find the best table she had available. All was on the up and up....then we sat. Our server, while a nice guy, was MIA a good portion of the time. It took a LONG time to even get our order in, let alone to get the food. Full disclosure, I did overhear that they had apparently had several service staff not show up to work due to illness, so that could have very likely been the issue. I always want to give benefit of the doubt, but for the cost of the menu items, I would expect more of an explanation than just overhearing from another table. Even a "I realize the service has been sub-par this evening due to some staffing issues. I'm going to knock 10% off of your bill tonight as a gesture of good will and hope you give us another chance!" would have been appreciated. Again - I get it, things happen, but this situation could have been handled a bit better IMHO. I would go back again, though - the food was good, and I'm willing to give them another shot (after flu season). I would also note that this place is loud inside due to concrete floors, etc....so if you're planning on having a lot of conversation...be prepared.
Overall a nice time. The blackened halibut was outstanding, the pork dish was very fatty and the greens atop the hot pork were served cold, which was odd and not great. Our server was nice enough but seemed hurried and then took a long time to bring us our second drinks... so long that we were just about to ask for the check and forgot we ordered them. Good energy in the place. Somewhat loud, but it was a packed Saturday night.
I didn’t have any expectations, but we had an amazing night! Great food, amazing wines and really good service. We’ll be back!
Most gorgeous wine bar, I wanted to stay forever, I love anyone with a passion for wine; the restaurant/ wine bar is beautiful : I had the most amazing wine flight and roast beets and the Brie butter is next level delicious. Super wow gets 5 stars from me and then some more !!!
Great environment, cute and substantial drink selection. We were blown away by appetizers and desserts. Entrees were so so (the girlfriends spaghetti is creamier and heavier than would expect, steak pretty generic). Would absolutely go back for Happy Hour - drinks & apps!
love the food, service and overall vibes. small but quaint with amazing assortment of evolving menus and natural wines. playlist was fire as well.
Meeting some old friends visiting from LA - everyone had a great experience...
I've only had the burger, here, to be honest, but it is truly one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in Portland. My friends and I do a regular get-together where we go to places in town that have developed good reputations for their burgers. We've gone to 22 restaurants in as many months, and OK Omens' burger is easily in my top 3. Really like the atmosphere in here too. Not a dive bar, but not precious or snooty either. They get pretty busy sometimes, so I like to do reservations, but they have walk-in seating as well
Good service. Not as loud as it has been other visits.
Need better wine chices
The food was inventive, delicious and fairly priced. The wine is by contrast much more expensive, which is really the only less that stellar aspect of OK Omens. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Did I mention how good the food was? This is a great date night if you want a menu that thinks out of the box.
Gluten free options are very limited
What we had tasted good
The food is great here but the service is a little hit or miss. There are two, veterans servers / runners who are great! The waitress we had was very nice but a little clueless on the menu (new?) the bartender gave us both a strange vibe. We had reservations, were not greeted or acknowledged by anyone for a few minutes and he came over and asked my husband if we needed a table. I said yes, we have reservations at 730. He looked at me, then looked back at my husband to ask what the reservation was under. I then replied with my own name. When he went to seat us, he also gave my husband his menu first, which was just weird. Maybe he was having a strange night, but that didnt kick things off on the right foot.
The took care of our large party no problem. Some of the food was stellar, and some was good (didn't blow me away). The overall vibe is very laidback and unpretentious which is great for a wine-forward restaurant/bar. Definitely want to go back for a more intimate dinner in the future.
The menu in trying to be much too clever it ends up juvenile and confusing, eg. “bottles for your face”. The wait staff is just not present being overly rehearsed in “that’s perfect” and “I’m here to help you”. No cocktail menu (save three wine “cocktails”) but perhaps that’s not hip these days if you have a full bar. I’d recommend a pass on this anemic and troubled family member to Castanga.
Disappointed. Extremely loud, hard to carry on a conversation. Service was inattentive, tried several times to get the attention of our server without success. I finally got up and asked the hostess if we could have more water as our glasses had been empty for some time. We ordered a bottle of wine that the waitress described as "fun." It was not particularly good. We ordered the pan con tomate (a dish I loved for its simplicity while traveling through Spain), this version was cold tomato sauce poured over toasted bread, so basically cold and soggy bread. The torito salad was fine, but nothing exciting. The corn ribs were good but difficult to eat. We got the steak, which was small and came with nothing but the steak, I have no memory of there even being a foie gras and roquefort sauce on the steak. The steak was chewy. We were eager to leave in that the sound level was painful and we just wanted to be able to carry on a conversation with each other. Our take away was that the restaurant was trying to be hip, but fell short.
Amazing and creative food. My wife and I live on the East Coast and eat at a fair amount of DC and NY restaurants and this chef gives them all a run for their money. Creative, unexpected, balanced flavors. Bravo!
I love the wine program at ok omens. Creative , knowledgeable and fun. The Riesling flight was again a hit.
The halibut was delicious and other dishes were solid.
A good way to spend a Thursday night.
Just an awesome experience from start to finish - every dish was so good - we could not wait to try the next course!
I found the food to be both too spicy and too salty.
This place was amazing. Great food and really nice service.
