The best way I can describe this food was bad wedding food. The steak I had was so dry. It had no seasoning at all. The potatoes were not even cooked all the way. The pasta dish was disgusting. Pretty place but that’s it. Food sucks!
Oheka Castle for lunch...
What an amazing treat. If you’ve never been to the castle it’s worth a visit.
The ambiance was wonderful. A small room, noise level was perfect, very comfortable chairs and they let you sit, visit and enjoy as long as you like. The food for lunch was outstanding. Every table got fresh bread and cheese fondue to start.
Great kickoff. We shared 3 appetizers for lunch; coconut shrimp, lobster roll sliders and one of the yummiest crab cakes I’ve ever had. We were full but had to share a dessert for our birthdays-Banana Foster pie.
Bonus, you get to tour the castle after lunch.
A really special place to celebrate anything and everything.
We will return.
Four women were celebrating a birthday we were able to have quiet conversation the food was great we had an excellent waiter we definitely plan on going back in the spring for lunch
Amazing location the castle is breath taking, great staff/service, excellent food, good pricing & great drinks. The owner Gary actually came to our table personally and thanked us for visiting the restaurant (which we were shocked to meet). It was my fiancée’s birthday and they made sure she felt special. This is one of the best restaurants I’ve been too.
The place needs live music on the weekends, too quiet after dinner!
So good! Only reason I gave four stars for food bc appetizer of lobster roll was grilled and I like a soft buttered roll. One dining partner had duck and said it was the best ever. Another had salmon (which I tasted) and it was moist but cooked through and very flavorful. I had short ribs that feel off the bone and were delicious. Definitely going back!
I went with my wife for her birthday and we had a wonderful time and the food was excellent and moderately priced and the service was very good. We look forward to returning.
Nice experience overall, partially because of the novelty of the charm of Oheka Castle itself. However, I would suggest that some updates and repairs be made to improve the aesthetic particularly to the long corridors one must travel to reach the restaurant. Exposed ductwork/piping, undecorated hallways and dismal lighting makes one feel as though they are traveling through the basement or bowels of the building as an employee would. Also, although I mostly enjoyed the evening, to induce me to return regularly I would suggest more attention be paid to the food prep. Side dishes were tasteless though presentation was nice. as one often experiences with catered food at a wedding for instance—perhaps the restaurant shares a kitchen with the catering side of Oheka. Cappuccino was served lukewarm to cold. The level of food should be fitting of the European grandeur which the castle suggests, as well as, the cost of the meal. This location is a gem and it is a missed opportunity to focus only on what’s lucrative to the business’ bottom line, and not fulfill the potential of this unique, charming and historic location. Oheka Castle is a North Shore treasure; there is definitely room for improvement here.
My date and I arrived early and were greeted by a very polite hostest. We then sat at the bar to have a drink. Once at the table we were greeted by a nice server named Jake. He helped us pick one of the appetizers (crab cake) which was absolutely delicious. We also had the coconut shrimp which came with a very delicious sauce. We both ordered the rib eye. Steaks were cooked to perfection. The owner also came by to greet all the guests at the restaurant which I found to be very nice. The food was delicious, the service was great, I will definitely be telling my friends and will be going back soon.
Great place for special occasions
So much fun to have a lunch in a castle, the grounds are also outstanding. I was hoping that they would be decorated for the holidays but it must have been too early. The drinks were poured on the heavy side and a little expensive compared to their moderately priced meals. I would put it on your bucket list.
Excellent meal with a very attentive staff and in beautiful surroundings
Location and grounds are beautiful. The restaurant is very nice as was all the wait staff. Food was delicious although pricey. Cocktails which were not priced on the menu were very high @$16.00 each. KInd of catches you by surprise. I will be returning as everything else was excelent.
Fabulous experience and looking forward to our next visit!
Great food, great ambiance, our 3rd year going on Thanksgiving. Love this place, can't go wrong with this choice!
Not the experience I expected. Waited 15 mins before someone showed up to greet and seat us even though the place was not busy. The waiter, Chris, was inappropriate and rude. The food was not “castle” like. Do not recommend this place at all, at least not for lunch. I’m not sure what dinner is like but lunch was terrible along with the service.
We were out for a birthday celebration... It was wonderful. Food, ambiance, service were all excellent. Pricey, but a good meal for the money.. well worth it. We had a 6:00 reservation and we were there a few hours... they did not rush us out for the next guy. So appreciated! Will go again for sure.
The food is great, service was excellent and it was worth the drive.
My wife and I had an enjoyable luncheon celebrating her birthday.
My server, Adam, went above and beyond to make my girlfriend's birthday special. I really enjoyed the lunch menu. I cant wait to be back for dinner.
Overrated main courses. Appetizers excellent. Deserts fair. Good service. Entrance to estate is beautiful but inside needs some work. Exposed wires and pipes. For the money, I'd prefer Mateo's, Albertos or even the Cheesecake factory on a good day.
Wont go back
Great service! Quality food. Small rooms on the hallway leading to the restaurant would be prefect for a small party!
Since there were no castle tours available during our Long Island stay, we thought we could at least see the lobby by dining here. No luck. We were sent in by a side door and up an unattractive stairway to the simply decorated dining room, with no access or view of the lobby because of a wedding party. By 6pm, it was too dark to see the unlit grounds from the dining windows. Our meal was average. Most memorable was the fondue that comes with the unnecessarily pre-buttered bread. They did not split our simple quinoa and arugala salad and did not offer pepper. My husband's Caeser was "boring." He liked his salmon. My wasabi swordfish sounded very flavorful, but was not. My daughter's duck was "OK." We chose to not order dessert.
Nothing wrong but I should be expect better food for $170 lunch for two. They can improve menus adding some creative ideas without adding extra cost to make this special place much better experience.
The food was good and the service was attentive. Was quite disappointed that we told them it was our 20th wedding anniversary and not even on the dessert was it noted.
Fabulous, Charming, delicious and cannot beat the ambience
My husband and I had our wedding at Oheka a few years ago and come back here on our anniversary every year for dinner. I am a vegetarian and they did not have one vegetarian entree. I ended up having a salad for dinner. Even out of the appetizers, there was only one that was vegetarian. When we asked to have something substituted we were told that they couldn't, and one other thing we asked for they were out of. My husband had the steak and wasn't impressed either.
We absolutely love Oheka, the restaurant is beautiful and the waitress was very nice, but for the menu they should certainly have more available and of better quality. If Oheka wants to compete with some of the local five star restaurants on Long Island they need to step it up!
Impressive castle in a fabulous elegant setting Great service and delicious food
Plan on returning.
A wonderful venue for a special occasion
Celebrated our wedding anniversary
My Husband lived there 4 years when it was a school. I loved being a teenager and going there for the prom and so on. When it fell on such hard times I was so worried OHK would be gone. But thank God it is saved and now if you can't afford a private affair at this beauitful old home u can just go and enjoy a great lunch or dinner. It is not over priced and the food is out of this world. you sit there and are just transported back the the gold coast days and this beautiful home that gets to live on.
Great dining experience. Pricey but you know that going into the place. Staff and food, both excellent. Owner walked the dining room and was a pleasure to talk with.
This dinner was a special birthday outing for my mother and we won't go back. There is a distinct lack of detail to this establishment. It looks good when one is pulling up to a "castle" but lack of signage as to where to pull your car for valet service, how to get upstairs to the dining room (one arrives in the basement of the property) and rather tasteless food combined to make this evening a bit of letdown. I am a vegetarian and was hoping that the menu would offer some sort of autumnal squash or warm vegetables but all the offerings were salads and cold. My mother's food was slightly better but the fried calamari appetizer was served with a tasteless red sauce. The owner, Gary Melius, did stop by our table but he is completely charmless and shouldn't have bothered.
Outstanding Ambiance only outdone
by the Creative Cuisine.
Already looking forward to returning!
Wonderful as usual!
Each of the four of us ordered something different for an entrée (swordfish, lamb, salmon) and we all thought that our entrées were delicious. The cost of the drinks, however, was pricy.
Everyone was so nice- food was excellent! The owner even came to say hi
The environment is wonderful
Great food, beautiful atmosphere
