Kansas City has been good to O’Dowd’s, and we love Kansas City. That’s why we believe it is important to use local companies and locally-sourced ingredients in our dishes and drinks. We use items from Farm to Market Bread Co., Kurlbaum’s Heirloom Tomatoes and Green Dirt Farms to name a few. We have a vast selection of locally brewed beers and distilled spirits. I signed up online for a high-top table for three, It was for my daughter's birthday. The online reservation asked if it was for any special events. Not only did we get sat at a low table, she was never approached with a Happy Birthday or anything. I was really disappointed. Food was average. One out of 3 dishes were very memorable. Probably won't be coming back anytime soon. Online reviews had noted average food and service, and I can concur nothing really stood out to make our experience any different.
Been eating at Odowd's for quite a while. Food is consistently good..(not great but good). Prices are bit high for what you get...but this is "The Plaza". Service ranges from excellent to 'just OK'...(depends a lot who you get)....but having said that, the wait staff has also been consistently enthusiastic and friendly.
If you are a coffee drinker, then Odowd's will disappoint. Coffee is consistently luke-warm...(I know that alcohol is the 'beverage of choice' at places like Odowd's but in an era when even McDonald's has decent coffee, one would think a little more attention could be paid).
Odowd's is a "fun place" to go...lively and energetic. This means NOISE. Noise can be good, making an evening fun...or it can be bad, interfering with conversation. Pick your occasion with this in mind.
The food is good but not great. The new menu is disappointing and there are not that many options.
I think the food will have to be improved if they hope to complete with all the other restaurants on The Plaza.
Food was good, feels like a fancier restaurant rather than a sports bar, but it was very loud.
The food was fine, but we had really awful service. Our waitress hardly checked on us and because of this we had to wait an unusual amount of time for our checks and for water refills. The restaurant was not very busy at this time. We were left without silverware but luckily a busboy passed by and we were able to request some. The food was good, but I would not recommend dining here. This is a great place to party at night or grab drinks in the early evening, but I would not recommend dining.
While our food was good the service was terrible. The manager (?) we think kept pacing back & forth scanning the restaurant at one point even bringing out the mop & bucket to mop the dining areas (no they weren’t closing or even close to it). He never once asked if we needed anything or instructed our waitress (chatting @ the bar much of the time) to ✔️ on us. It was disappointing & while food was “fine” we won’t be back due to the service & strange vibe. Seems like an old bar vibe w/new interior design. Just doesn’t mesh well.

I should have realized it was really just a regular noisy bar with food. I put to much weight on the name gastropub due to positive past experiences.
The food may be inventive for a bar. But the quality does not meet the standards of a true gastropub.
Was disappointed as soon as walked in as the place was super loud and filthy.

Initially server addressed table with a smile then her whole demeanor changed. We had a hard time getting her back to the table. Two of us got the scallops, they were very small and total of three for $21.00, I had mashed potatoes and broccoli and it was all cold. The server never came back to let her know until everyone was done eating. Another person got the trout and it was very small and the thinnest fish I have ever seen. I felt bad because I recommended it because a few weeks ago my husband and I were in there and it was great. Food and service just did not go well this night.
Food was wonderful, service was excellent, and crafted cocktails were delicious!

Love the new look and menu. It's a huge upgrade, it's truly a gastro-pub experience now. The menu upgrade is awesome, while still maintaining some of the unique Irish Pub fare that it has always had. Hope to be back soon to try more items on the menu!
The new menu is fantastic! I’m gluten intolerant and there were tons of delicious options. The gf bun is amazing! Love the transition they’ve made.
The food here was fantastic, delish! The only problem we had was the noise level, solely by the ambitiously inebriated table next to us. Our fantastic server had to endure them too, and we felt sorry for her. Had it not been for that we would have been thrilled with the culinary experience.
The Reuben is great--at an Irish Bar this is important. The Boxty with the Beef has a great presentation--Beef on a little bit of shaved cabbage all on top of a thick potato pancake. On the negative side, the chicken disappointed in a big way. Very thin and dry sitting on a huge block of rice. For an appetizer, try the goat cheese which goes well with beer or wine. The new look of O'Dowd's feels comfortable and carries a traditional flavor; and we didn't miss the sticky pub floor and old tavern smells.

We went there Friday for fish and chips because of Lent. Did not disappoint. Definitely a place that we would come back to.
Although we had 5:45 pm reservations for dinner, my friend and I were seated in the very noisy and crowded bar area, which made conversation difficult. This area was not as dark as before the renovation, but the lights were dimmed as the evening passed. The menu has a good selection of tempting choices. The Roasted Beet Salad (with chicken added) was delicious, although a little hard to cut up and eat from the small plate, and it needed more dressing, which I asked for and got. Our service was great, especially based on the fact that they had not expected so many people at that time, and we were told they had not adequately staffed up. Parking on the Plaza is always a challenge, but even more so for an evening out, and Thursday night was no exception.
We are always looking for a new place to eat whenever we are in Kansas City. We picked this restaurant since they had scallops on thei menu. I had the scallops and my husband had the porkchop dinner. Both were really good. Cooked well and had great flavor. Kind of a pain to find parking in Crow Center but there is a parking garage right across the street from Dowd's so that was great.
Our entree choices were great (Reuben with extremely tender corned beef & fish and chips ). We had great fast service!

Small potions and tasteless food
We met my sister and brother for a catch up dinner on Friday evening. There were 6 in our party. The food was great. It was easy for us to spend some time together chatting over dinner and drinks with no feeling of being rushed. Great evening!
I never leave reviews, but feel compelled to after my experience taking my mom here when she came to visit. I had been to ODowd's a few times prior to their remodel and revamping of the menu and always enjoyed it as a bar with pretty good food, but was excited when I'd heard they re-did the place and the menu. It felt seemed a little more upscale. The food was amazing and our waitress was excellent. The reason I am leaving a negative review is because my entire dinner conversation with my mom who I hadn't seen in months ended up revolving around a simple choice made my the managers that night. When the waitress came to take our order we told her right away we knew what we wanted to order and would like to put our food order in with our drinks. She said no problem and put in our order. A few minutes later, a man who said he was the manager came over to our table and asked if our waitress has listed off the specials for us, and explained that he was checking to make sure they were doing their job and pushing the specials. We looked at each other confused that if we said yes, we would be asked what they were, and if we said no, we were ratting out our waitress who couldn't even get the specials out since we knew what we wanted already. We said no she did not, but that it was our fault because we knew what we wanted. He said "but she didn't offer specials, correct?" He walked away and for the remainder of our dining experience we felt like we had ratted out our waitress, and questioned why anyone in any hospitality setting would approach guests that way. We found out later that our waitress was reprimanded mid shift for not telling us the specials. I have never had a more uncomfortable experience. This was a decision by management, to go around to every table and ask if the specials had been shared. A manager who said "thanks ladies, have a nice night" on the way out offered little to no response when we provided this feedback. The whole situation is in poor taste.

While we had visited O'Dowd's a number of times when it was the Irish Pub, this was our first time coming to the Gastrobar. Both of us ordered the Crispy Chili Lime Chicken on the suggestion of our server, Nicki, and were very pleased with the meal. We look forward to coming back to try other menu items before long.
My wife and I went for restaurant week, had never been there before. A little surprised by lack of Irish bar type of place, as the name would imply, however, the service was excellent, food was excellent, we enjoyed our visit, and will be back. My only suggestion is that maybe the name should be changed.

One of my best friends and I decided to go there for a late lunch. Had an outstanding experience. The server had fantastic personality and lots of fun with big smile. Definitely a return venue.

We ate here on Wednesday night of Restaurant Week. I knew this restaurant had been remodeled and the menu updated this past fall and thought RW would be a great time to give it a try. The interior is really welcoming, modern without being cold. Our food was really good. My companion had the shrimp and grits and really liked it. I had the chicken dish with prosciutto and parmesan and it was delicious. There are nice wines by the glass. Everyone with whom we came in contact was friendly and welcoming but the service was a little slow. There was a moderate sound level, but no live entertainment the night we were there. If there had been, it might have been a different story. We had a nice experience and agreed we would return sometime.
Our family went during restaurant week because the prix fixe menu options looked so good – and they absolutely nailed it. From the best grilled Cesar I’ve eaten to very creamy shrimp & grits and juicy short ribs, it was an amazingly delicious meal and frankly very well presented. On top of this feast, they had a truly talented guitarist and singer putting her own groove on some classics, as well as some deep takes. She said that she performs every Tuesday evening. So, we’ll definitely go back and hopefully they will added some of the RW specials to their main menu. Big Kudos to the new O’Dowds! VPG
My husband and I had dinner there for the first time. We heard they had a new menu so we decided to go and check it out. We were impressed, the food was excellent. I had the fish and chips and my husband had the bone in pork chop and we split the roasted beet salad. I would highly recommend checking this place out.
Good food and the restaurant is completely different than before. Bright open and beautiful.
The ambience was comfortable and updated. Food was good. Unfortunately our server was not as friendly as we are used to and seemed to have other things to do than take our order.
