Hands down one of the best salmon dishes i have ever have. The caldo was spot on as well. My only complaint was getting the attention of the waiter. However the good and ambience more then made up for it. Love love love!!!
We went to "Ocho" on May 17, 2018, at 6pm. We have eaten here two or three times previously before an event at the Tobin Center. We ordered some chips with guacamole and salsa to start, and our dinners with salads. I told the waitressI have a diary allergy, so please no cheese or butter, etc.. The guacamole came with cheese on it and so did my salad. I had asked about the fingerling potatoes (in butter sauce) that came with my chicken, the waitress said she'd tell them to leave that off. When my dinner plate arrived and my potatoes had sauce all over them. I had to be careful eating the chicken, as sauce was on it and I ate in the middle of it. I feel sending things back is never a good idea at a restuarant.
For dessert we ordered a fruit plate, trying to keep things simple. A little later a busser was carrying around a fruit plate and he tried to give it to one table across from us and they told him it wasn't theirs, so he set it down at a table next to that, still across from us, that had about 7 women at it from a "Bride Tribe" and they started digging right in (with their bare fingers I will add). We suspected it was in error and that it had actually been OUR fruit plate (ordered without chili dusting). Our waitress came by, noticed that the fruit was at the other table, picked it up and brought it to us!! OMG. We told her NO! That the other table had been eating from it with their fingers! When the "new" fruit plate and it looked identical to the one she had hauled away. I mean the watermelon was sort of wilted looking, stacked the same, etc. She also hadn't left me any utensils. We were very concerned about the way this had all gone down and when the waitress finally did come back my husband told her that it would have been better to leave the fruit with the first table that had eaten off of it and just get us a new one - or at least throw away the original one in front of us, as now things were suspect. We did pay for it, but we didn't eat it.
Great ambiance and pretty good food
Poor service .... expect to to have your order taken and Food delivered but otherwise completely ignored.
Good food. Nice place. I really liked my Cuban sandwich. My wife enjoyed the trout. Our server said those are her two favorite dishes. It was pretty crowded with concert goers so a little noisier than usual that night and a little crowded but overall an enjoyable experience
Must have the spicy mushroom tacos. Also the trout/saffron rice/shrimp with cream sauce was amazing. Wonderful cocktails!
The atmosphere is fabulous, but the food was not stellar like it easily could be. Pork and Ham sandwich had no flavor which is not hard to accomplish. Also, it took 10 to 15 minutes to get your drink orders----totally too long. With all these things I will give it another try. It is too easy to provide great food and stellar service.
Food was so disappointing.... dried out pork chop and boiled, mushy Brussel sprouts, inedible albondigas; the trout and shrimp was the only decent dish of the 5 ordered. Even the chips with the tiny portion of guacamole were off-tasting. The drinks were good though, so maybe just stick to Ocho for ambience and cocktails.
We should have looked at the menu before making reservations - it's very limited, and didn't appeal very much to two of the three as our table. The drinks were far more expensive than we expected ($21 for two old-fashioned). I didn't enjoy the virgin drink that I ordered and sent it back after a sip, and was still charged. That in itself wasn't an issue, but on the bill it was listed as lemonade. I think that might have been the problem, because it tasted like a sugar substitute was used.
That said the service was prompt, dessert was delicious (and brought out almost immediately when we ran short on time), and the place itself is absolutely gorgeous. I would go back again if the menu changed/rotates. The others at my table would not.
The food was wonderful but the service was awful. Our server rushed us to order and the disappeared for 20 minutes. We had to ask for refills on water and tea and weren't asked if we wanted another glass of wine or dessert. I was very disappointed. That server needs to find another job.
The place has a hip feel but food is very mediocre
Trendy vibe with great cocktails. Friendly service. Ordered off Fiesta menu which was awesome. Small portions but was delicious!
We arrived and were told we didn’t have a reservation. I asked to speak with a Manager three times and they couldn’t be bothered. We were given the luxury of having a table inside after asking to speak to the Manager but a server didn’t arrive at our table until I made another complaint and asked to speak to a Manager again. I asked the server to get a Manager and again no Manager came to address our situation. Poor example of service for out of towners who made reservations weeks in advance. Major fail.
We visited this restaurant while on vacation. We read the hype online regarding the restaurant good food, drinks and atmosphere. My wife is a gluten free diner with a few additional allergies they were somewhat accommodating but a plain piece of chicken on a bead of lettuce, really. We got better service at local SA taco restaurant. The waitress was blah and not concerned with us at all. Not worth the hype or price we paid for dinner. Oh, my dinner was the pork chop, have had better, too dry.
We both had a awesome time. This place is not a quick in and out place. The food was very good and the wait staff was very attentive. For a quite down to earth place I would suggest this place.
Lovely early Easter dinner. Service was excellent as was our meal. Would definitely recommend!
After being seated, it took a waiter over 15 mins to come over and give me a menu and take drink orders. The food is good but service could definitely be improved. If you are going here before a show at the Tobin it’s close by, across the street. Just give yourself plenty of gold bc the service is a bit slow!
The waiter only saw us twice. Didn't get a refill on water, or coffee, and didn't receive the desert menu. Pretty disappointed all in all.
We had read about this place when doing our research about San Antonio and the riverfront. We were not disappointed. This was a wonderful place to eat it was not in the busyness of the usual Riverwalk area. We thoroughly enjoyed the staff and the ambience. The meal was delicious. No criticisms - we will be back.
I love that place it has great ambiance and not noisy
Ocho is located on the Riverwalk, close to the Tobin Center. It's really the only dining option within a short walk of the Tobin Center. The problem is, the service is virtually non-existent. We had a reservation for 1 hour before the Tobin Center performance. It took 10 minutes just to get seated and another 10 minutes to order, and then the food didn't arrive in time to make the performance, so we left without eating. They are really short staffed. If they fix that problem, it might be a good spot to go to before a performance at the Tobin, but otherwise, don't go there hoping to grab dinner before the performance.
They did not honor our 5:45 reservation, we volunteered to sit outside just so we could sit. We got up and left at 6:35 because we had tickets at the Tobin Center at 7 pm. We had not gotten our drinks, or even a refill on our water. We were constantly ignored by our server, and at no point did anyone apologize for the wait or the fact that they did not honor the reservation.
This was a favorite location. Our last experience was terrible. They were severely understaffed. Took 30 minutes to get our drinks, gave up on ever getting our food after an hour. I really hope they pull it together
Unfortunately the restaurant was severely under-staffed. We were there for pre-show drinks and a bite to eat before seeing "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" at the Tobin Center. Apparently, we were not the only ones. Several people had trouble getting their drinks and food. No fault of the servers and bartender who were really hustling to serve everyone. They had a great attitude considering the circumstances.
Food was lukewarm when served
Great venue but that is about it
Ordered appetizers and dinner. Everything came out together after a long wait and food was getting cold. Lukewarm when delivered.
Water not refilled and drink order never delivered but still in check when closing out my check.
Afterwards I read some reviews and apparently this isn’t a rare experience. Should have read up before wasting my time and money here. I will never go back.
It’s was a little too noisy and urban for us (in our 40s), but can see how it would appeal to younger people. Food and service was excellent! Bathroom situation in the basement bar is a little awkward.
Everything was awsome except the person waiting the table I was at .
Everything was delicious, the atmosphere was gorgeous, and the service was lovely.
The service was polite and accommodating but incredibly slow. We observed several tables either request their meal to go or cancel their order and walk out. I was preparing to leave when our food arrived. The tuna I ordered was cooked precisely as ordered, but the flavors were underwhelming and portions were small.
Glad we came in. It was a good time and great food! Loved the ambiance
We had reservations there prior to a show at the Tobin Center. Weather was below freezing and restaurant has glass on 3 sides so not comfortable for those temperatures. Server, Amber, was fine although extremely busy and it was tough to get her attention.
Soup was cold and brought out before wine. Tostada and ceviche were salty with no other seasonings.
Bar is in the middle of the restaurant and bar patrons were allowed to stand in the aisle making it difficult for servers to pass without bumping into my chair.
Second visit here and we will not return.
Expected more from the description on their website. The empanadas were very good. The churros were crispy yet tender and had the right amount of cinnamon sugar - the lemon curd added the perfect zing. The Cuban sandwich was just so so and their beef steak a little disappointing. Setting was cold despite the heaters they had - probably a lovely place on a warmer night/ day
We had a quiet private room that was fun and cozy with a great view of the river. Food was excellent and they were very accommodating of gluten free requests. Great service too! Would definitely visit again!
Drinks were weak. Food was a strange mix of Mexican and American, but lacked flavor. The ambience was cute but I would not return for the value and service.
THis is a great place to go for a drink in warm weather but the restaurant was disappointing. The food was just ok and waiter was not able to answer questions about the food or drinks.
Great service, but the food terrible. I am not coming back.
We were seated by the front entry on a cool night, every time someone came in, we were hit with a blast of cool air. We asked to be re-seated but were told that all the other tables were taken. Other than that, we had a great time, good food, good service.
Went on a Monday evening in December and were sat almost immediately. Highly recommend the Cuban - and also the empanadas. Enjoy!
Lovely room - close to the Tobin Center where we were headed to see a concert. Food was only OK - patatas bravas had a delicious sauce but were undercooked and oversalted, empanadas were good but also very, very salty, happy hour quesadilla was tiny but fine, caldo branco was funky (and not in a good way) and again, very, salty. The burger (frito) was OK - just meat and shoestring potatoes, but the beef was quality and it was seasoned and cooked nicely. The cuban sandwich was ridiculous - not even close. Not too expensive, but the service will keep us from returning. Unprofessional...we actually walked up to the bar to refill our own water. Our server had a terrible attitude, whenever she was actually near...which was rare. Can't recommend.
Was very disappointed in a restaurant named one of the "World's Most Gorgeous Glass Restaurants." It was so dark in the restaurant the menu couldn't be read. The service was hap hazard. The bar had a large white plastic ice bucket on it the entire time. I expected a craft cocktail and instead got a completely substandard drink. We left after the appetizer (empanadas) which were quite good but not worth enduring the experience for an entire dinner. I felt like I was eating in a makeshift restaurant with a patio brick floor and walls that let all the cold outside air in.
Not for me.
