Ocho at Hotel Havana
The experience and food was outstanding! The prices for drinks I feel were pretty expensive but overall it was a great experience.
No one greeted us, I had to ask other customers who to check in with, they pointed to someone unloading dishes at the bar and it took a good effort to break his concentration from the glasses he was loading, he said oh sit wherever. So we sat “wherever”
The drinks were terrible, service was slow, the restaurant was not at all busy there was 8 people in the restaurant total and we spent 2 hours and had only appetizers and 1 drink each. The drinks were poorly mixed and the chips were chewy and stale. It was my best friends birthday and we’d seen this place featured in some fun looking pics online and in the current, we were not terribly impressed or terribly disappointed. Was what I’d expect from a busy diner. Neutral feelings. Very fun decor but if service were as good as the decor, it would have been amazing.
Food was excellent as was our server. However, the hostess didn’t seat us when we got there and just pointed to the other side of the restaurant, which did not sit well with me.
There was a large party seated at the table next to us so the noise level was high but the place is adorable, service was great amd food/drinks/dessert all first rate.
Great food and great, quick service before the symphony!
Bad experience. Didn’t check me in on my reservation. Did not acknowledge Birthday. Got order wrong, then took so long my dining partner had finished before I got my correct order. Portions very small esp crab cakes but tasty. Ordered coffee when meal arrived. Did not get until after check came. Water not refilled. Waiter took pic but too dark asked to take from different angle and reply was I could lighten up myself w phone app. Very disappointed. Won’t be back.
Saw this gem while walking along the Riverwalk and decided to head there for a Saturday brunch. Tasty innovative food and delicious cocktails in a quirky beautiful space overlooking the San Antonio river.
I've already suggested this local to several friends both living in San Antonio and Austin. Combined with visits to the Alamo and a walk along the River, it's well worth the one hour drive from Austin. Special Note: Our server was excellent and handled our growing party with Grace and Professionalism.
Iphone was stolen while at dinner. I was really disappointed because the ambiance was nice, but that does not make up for the Iphone being stolen.
New Year’s Eve meal
Food was expensive for the serving size. Food did not taste good. Service from the hostess, manager and waitress was mediocre. Building is antiquated and not ADA friendly. Floors are slanted. Two people tables are way too small and the chairs are very uncomfortable. Not at all what we were expecting. Restrooms are outside the building and are not ADA compliant. Access to the restaurant is not ADA compliant. Will not be back and will not recommend to our many foody clients and friends.
We showed up an hour early for our NYE reservation. No problem, they seated us, which wasn’t hard since the place was nearly deserted. Appreciated nonetheless. Food was passable, if not very abundant, for the price. Everything was ok until I adjourned to use the bathroom. Men’s room is a one holer that someone continuously occupied for an extended time. Pretty disruptive to the evening. What do they do when they get busy and someone decides to tie up the facility? Argh!
We were vacationing in San Antonio. I made a reservation through open table and they did not honor the reservation. They did not offer any apology or solution either. After having driven 3 hours and with two kids in tow we were not happy to search for a new place it the Riverwalk. I had made the reservation specifically to avoid that. I cannot really judge the food. But the service was poor. I won’t be returning.
Our open table reservation was not honored! Beware! Be sure to call! We were unapologetically told they only had outside tables (when it was 40 degrees) even though we reserved an inside table. No apologies,no offer to wait for a better table. Drove downtown for nothing.
We arrived at Ocho with an open table reservation which could not be found in Ocho's reservation system. I had to pull up my reservation to prove the booking. At this time a hostess then said they were having trouble with Open Table reservations that evening. We asked to speak to a manager and hostess said she could seat us outside - the temperature was 45 degrees that evening - we declined her offer. Hostess then said she could seat us, walked to a table which was not bussed and then said she was so sorry she could not seat us. Asked again to speak to a manager, she said he was too busy helping others who had open table reservations but could not be seated.
Five star food and three star service. The staff lacked any kind of personality or enthusiasm. The hostess at the station did not acknowledge us when we walked in. The waiter did not describe anything on the menu. Between courses the table was not cleared or wiped. When I made our reservations online (which worked great) I included a note that it was my mother's 84th birthday. Nobody ever said anything to her or brought any kind of birthday treat. We would return because the food was excellent. A chef this good deserves a top notch staff.
All in all a very satisfying evening before the Tobin Center event!
It was a fun family outing..I would say the only tiny complaint is the potatoes were not cooked all the way....actually pretty hard...we were a 4:30 Seating however whoever was in charge of that part of the meal should know. We will be back!
The service was fantastic as well as the food, my wife and I had the pollo and salmon dishes as well as their chorizo con queso and they were all great! The kitchen undercooked my salmon however they easily refired my dish. Expect to walk as there is not parking readily and easily available near the restaurant. A little secluded and off the beaten path, this place is a real gem of San Antonio.
Nothing. I said it was a birthday but they did not have a special dessert for a birthday.
Family holiday brunch.
We were early seating available
We made up over half the restaurant volume as there were 14 in our group maybe four other tables 2,3,4
My party half food was served cold
Frequently glasses empty or coffee filled not enough cream table
Think it is a better date place than a party/large group place
Food was delicious. Ambiance was perfect, could look right out on the Riverwalk. Far enough away from the crowds though.
The Hotel Havana is a great place to stay and its convenient to the Tobin Center. Ocho is wonderful the food and service are exceptional!
Need larger tables for parties of 2. We barely had enough room for our plates, and the server didn’t pick up the app plate before our main dishes came out, so needless to say it got very crowded on the table and we ended up having to flag the server to pick up the extra, empty plates. With tables that smal, the servers should be making sure empty plates get cleared quickly. Other than that, the food is always good, and it’s a great little place for a bite before a show.
We attended a concert at The Tobin Center nearby, and Ocho was in walking distance. The food was O.K. but pricey. The chairs were horribly uncomfortable. Our server was overworked so we didn't get good attention. We thought being on the riverwalk it would have ambience, but the Christmas lights in the trees ended a block away. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.
Wait staff was overwhelmed which resulted in slow service. I had to get napkins and utensils from an empty table myself. But the food was so good, all is forgiven.
Our food was excellent, I highly recommend the egg & chroizo torta for breakfast. The chrorizo was perfection and the bread was crispy but airy. The decor and view of the riverwalk was really nice. I wish our waitress had been a bit more attentive for a slow Sunday morning with hardly any patrons to serve. Overall we would go again.
Beautiful venue with delicious and unique food, great service and signature cocktails. Great date night spot.
Our table was not ready at our reservation time; however, the staff provided us with free cocktail round while we waited.
Staff very pleasant but much too cold despite having the doors closed.
I’m going to make this short
I booked this 3 weeks in advanced and we sat by the doors and the cold wind was coming hitting us, the place was empty and we requested to sit away from the doors but they said the seatings were reserved already which was odd because the whole time we ate there seats were emptying.. this was brunch time. I felt bad because my elderly mom was cold the whole time. I asked for an omelette with avocado and bacon the avocados old and brown and I literately had four tiny bits bacon. To bad such a pretty place but the food was awful.. at least my waiter was super nice
Be forewarned: the tortilla chips are cold and made of flour. Ugh! We'd made a reservation but were still expected to sit next to the door on a blustery Dec evening. The hostess told it was that table or leave until a responsible advanced server figured it out. Our second table was cozy and lovely and my partner got tipsy on her perfectly mixed Manhattan. We made it to the theater in plenty of time for the show.
I would recommend getting outside heaters for the colder times eating outside. Could not eat inside but a little chilly out when we ate there.
Awful. Incredibly slow service. We went at 6:30 pm and they were already out of 3 entrees that my table ordered. Only nice thing about this place is that it looks cool.
One of the best pork chops I’ve ever had.
Date with friends before a show!
Wonderful experience! Try the empanadas! Great atmosphere!
Our waitress was really nice. The ambience is very cute. The food... delicious!
Restaurant was very cold with ?? Heating coming on every five minutes and was cold air. We were not the only ones that complained about this. One person worked the restaurant. Granted it was early and only a few customers. Ordering and food took a while. Asked for meat to be on the side on not plate as we are vegetarian. Cam one plate. When asked to replace this too took a while.
Not overly impressed.
