Ocho at Hotel Havana
Loved the Havana bar. The bartender Eric was awesome. Atmosphere was amazing. Had dinner reservations right after a private party. Not recommended as the staff and restaurant were still trying to recover when we were seated. That said the food was excellent (order the Pork Chop!) and I cannot wait to come back and try it again under different circumstances and really take our time.
The service and food were terrible. We had high hopes for this venue but were sorely disappointed. When we let our server know the food was cold, dry, no coffee, not prepared correctly he didn’t offer to change anything .
Apps/drinks before Tobin
Although we had reservations for 8. They were not able to seat us and once seating was arranged we discovered although it was after 12 all they offered was limited brunch menu.. the atrium was the attraction for choosing this restaurant. However upon arriving we found it was very small narrow atrium with limited seating.
The brunch menu was not great...unless you want soup with eggs or chicken wings. They ran out of coffee cups and gave something in a paper cup I could have got at my hotel for free. Beautiful venue but menu could use some alternative options.
Horrible service . They are very rude. I asked for salt they did not have any . I asked for a coffee , and it was waiting at the bar for while . One of the waitresses even rolled her eyes when I asked if we could be seated at a bigger table . She even said no we have everything booked . During the time I spent at the restaurant it was never full . Tables are small , staff is rude and the food is over rated !
Dinner before the symphony. It was a wonderful meal. Only complaint was that it was cold inside the restaurant. Especially sitting up by the garage doors.
Desert could have been warmed up more too. The bread pudding.
Dinner pre show at the Tobin. This was my 2 nd time there, everything was great! Love the atmosphere and decor- had 2 Paloma Verde cocktails and we both had the blackened trout w/shrimp - AMAZING!
I have dined at Ocho many times over the years. This time the food was good but the service was not satisfactory. I requested an additional napkin three times before finally having one provided. My dining partner requested a second glass of wine and there was such a delay in it being served that we had to leave prior to it being served. I was charged for a large salsa that we did not order nor was served and it took several minutes to get that transaction removed. Paying with the handheld device was difficult and there was no one to assist. Maybe the service issue was due to under staffing but it certainly impacted the experience.
Ocho was SO cute. We went for my friends brunch party and it was gorgeous. I ordered some strange breakfast spaghetti dish that I felt wasn’t well described on the menu, but I did have a bite of my friends French toast and that was really good! Staff was really nice and helpful. Had a great time!
Food was very good, nicely prepared and tasty. But service was lacking. We both ordered cocktails, a salad and a main course (which was fish). Drinks came out pretty quick. Salads took a very long time to arrive. We had hardly started on the salad when the main course was brought out! The very small table would not accommodate all those dishes, so the server offered to bring the mains later, and promised they would be redone, not sit under a heat lamp and dry out. That seemed very wasteful to me, but the fish was very nice and not dried out, so I guess they did redo them. On top of all that, the people bringing out all the dishes were not the server who took our orders, who seemed to disappear when we needed him, including when we needed to pay. I've eaten here before, and like the location and ambience very much, but the service needs some work.
Server was not attentive, tables for two are too small, food was good though
The food was delicious! Didn’t like that they gave us a small table for our anniversary and when I asked to move the waiter said that they were booked. This is why I made a reservation. For our anniversary outing it was not the best.
I'm grateful for the attention and compensation given to us by our waiter after we waited 40 minutes for chips and salsa. I think we just went on an off night - out of tonic, out of cranberry juice, the incorrect food and drinks getting dropped off at our table more than once. I'll keep going back for the food and ambience - and note taken about holding the service accountable.
I had found this restaurant on google for “great date ideas in San Antonio”. This restaurant came up and I decided this was a perfect place for Sunday brunch. This restaurant has a very cozy feeling, I wish it was cleaner and had more vegetarian/vegan options. The photos I saw online were beautiful and clean. If you show up, you can compare the fish bowl in the restaurant with the one you see online and tell for yourself. It’s dirty. The sofa cushions need to be replaced. The brunch menu didn’t have too many options for someone watching their figure. I ended up eating half my plate. Overall - it was okay
We had good previous experiences here, but this visit was quite different. It took 40 minutes to get our food and not once was our water refilled. The staff were very nice and the food was pretty good, but not anything special.
Great spot. Cozy and comfy with just the right ambience. Service and food were both great and we were on time for the show at Tobin.
Service was bad, had to get up multiple times and order at the bar and to top it all off the bartenders were rude and didn’t even wanna serve us. Overall good but could have been better.
Light airy restaurant right on the Riverwalk. Totally enjoyed our experience.
Nice, quaint little restaurant. Pretty view of the river walk and cozy dinning area. Menu is very limited but food was good
Great spot. Amazing food
Food, service, view, ambience, and the drinks are on point. I highly recommend this place to anyone especially if you want some place romantic 😉
Great location with great ambience for a tasty treat before heading to The Tobin. We sat at a cozy table along the large windows overlooking the river. Beautiful view. We had appetizers with our salads and the pulled pork quesadilla was great with just the right amount of spice. The avocado salad with shrimp was excellent; the shrimp were large and grilled perfectly. I have been here several times before events at Tobin and have always enjoyed it.
I wouldn’t call this a Mexican restaurant.
We enjoyed happy hour margaritas that were as good as anywhere on the riverwalk. For food, we started with the salmon ceviche and fried plantains (excellent) and for the full course, ribeye with mushroom demo glacé also good. The ceased salad was okay- this one could be kicked up a little. All in all a great experience!
Highly recommended and was very disappointed. Breakfast was way overcooked and not worth the price.
There was a live reggae concert taking place that took away some of the calm, but Ocho itself was phenomenal and the Cubano sandwich was AMAZING! WE WILL BE BACK
The service was extremely slow.
Excellent food, just ok wine selection and great location. Service started great but faded - we had to track our waitress down to wrap up.
For a little taste of Havana, with great flavors, this is the place to go. It's not large, reservations are best since it gets a lot of theater visitors because it's next to the Tobin. I recommend the fish taquitos, the Cubano and the Hippie Havana sandwiches. The pozole is very good too
. Robie makes a nice mojito, be sure to visit the Havana bar downstairs.
This was our second time to eat at the restaurant and we were highly disappointed. The place was about half full. Our waitress was very nice but the food was awful. It actually made us sick to our stomachs.
Loved the atmosphere. Food was great. Definitely enjoyed our date night!
Always very good service a little confused are capable of doing better.
The server was very friendly! The atmosphere is nice! Small table; however, the kitchen was slow. It took along time to get our appetizers. The food was very good. The trout is recommended!
Food was tasty. Drinks were yummy. Flan was bit sweet but delicious. Large table of women were too loud for the small dining room.
wish there was more on menu to choose from. sat at a very small table
Thumbs down on this one. Ocho was mentioned in nearly every “best Riverwalk restaurant” review websites I looked at so it seemed like a sure bet. Unfortunately it appears they have slipped since the reviews came out. Right off the bat, the hostess tried to seat us at a table close to the constantly opening and closing entry door, an area that was also a default waiting area for tables. Not where I wanted to have dinner. My wife saw some empty tables further in but was told that they were reserved. I said that we also had reserved on Opentable. But no, those actual TABLES were reserved. When I said that we were going to leave, the hostess said she would see what she could do. And surprise, we could have the reserved table. I don’t know what was going on but it sure was off-putting.
Food was ok, not great. Trout, a bit salty, and salmon, a bit undercooked. Service was another weak spot. Our server took the appetizer plate but left the utensils. He asked us to move them aside (implying that we were to reuse them) so he could put down the dinner plates. I had to ask for new utensils. I’m fine with reusing utensils at a neighborhood eatery but not at a restaurant with such fancy reviews (and prices). The restaurant itself is in a nice glass enclosed atrium style place, but that was the only plus.
I was thouourly upset with this restaurant. We made reservations through open table .I had people come from out of town and they were closed for a private event. No apologies or anything and no sign just an rudewedding planner trying to keep me quiet. The bar tender at the basement bar was awesome but the restaurant was unapologetic when I called.
