Appetizer was very good Spicy Tuna Poke. Soup New England Clam Chowder was delicious. Chopped mixed greens was delicious. Entrees Grilled Salmon and Tuna was just average
Beautiful looking restaurant with very nice ambience. Waiter was extremely attentive!
Great food, a little disappointed in the desserts. My creme brûlée was fair and the ice cream option was just one scoop.
We were visiting from Phoenix and there for a birthday dinner. The service was top notch! We were greeted by multiple people, all of which knew we were there for a birthday and made the birthday girl feel very special.
The server was very knowledgable about the menu and had great suggestions.
The food was delicious and seemed fairly priced for the quality. It came out fast and was perfect temperature.
The only slight mix up with an appetizer was corrected immediately and removed from our bill.
We left feeling like we had a perfect experience and would absolutely return if we are back in the area.
Nice dinner with class
We decided to go here to celebrate a late Valentine’s Day and will definitely be going back! Our waiter Jeff was amazing! Very attentive, delicious food, great experience! We ordered the clam chowder and never received it and just asked for it to be taken off our bill.
Oceanaire is my favorite seafood restaurant in San Diego. They prepare fish as basic as you choose or with lots of bells and whistles, always my choice.
We had a fish I never tried before, monchong. It had an incredible crab crusted topping, prepared perfectly, with dynamite sauce. Had a little spicy kick, not overwhelming, just perfect. It was highly recommended by our amazing server, Sean. All his recommendations were excellent. The service was exceptional. Sean was very knowledgeable about the menu. He was truthful about all the items. He was attentive but not smothering. We told him upon arrival, we are not in a hurry, so please space out the courses. He performed this perfectly!
My fish was one of the very best fish dishes I've ever had. I cannot wait to go back and I will be hoping it is on the ever changing menu.
Sean is outstanding. We will be requesting him from here on.
Birthday dinner. Had awful service. Sat for 15 min before being greeted. Drinks took a long time to come out, server barely gave us the time of day. For the price point, this was definitely not worth it
Dinner was good. Service moved at a pace that allowed us to enjoy our guests. Normally I would have had an issue with such a casual pace, but our server made it an evening.
Two things were not to my liking:
1) Front desk experience with GM. He didn’t possess the - calm in all circumstances demeanor - I’m accustomed to at restaurants of this caliber.
2) Valet didn’t accept cards
If you’ve never dined at this location it is worth a visit.
Love the food, our waiter and this restaurant but the bar tender was arrogant and didn’t wait on us!!!
We arrived 20 minutes prior to our reservation and went to the bar to to have a drink while we waited. The lady bartender asked if we were eating at the bar , we said we had a reservation and were just having drinks. She walked away and began to work the drink station for the restaurant and we sat there unable to get service for 15 minutes. Finally a young guy came over and got our drink order and five minutes later we got our table and still no drink. Then our waiter told us he would bring it over and it was still another 10 minutes to get our drink!!!!so I would eat there again as the food was outstanding and waiter was great but I would skip the bar!
My wife and I visit Oceanaire restaurant about 2 times a year. We love coming here. Our diner this evening was delicious and amazing. My only criticism is 1. I asked for a wine Demi sauce to go with my 10 ounce Filet mignon steak. The waiter express that won’t be a problem and said he would have it specially made. When our dinner was served there was no sauce but honestly it was not a big deal as the steak tasted amazing and everything that went with it made it perfect but the wine sauce would have put the meal that much over top amazing. Also we ordered the 16 ounce lobster tail which was absolutely delicious, my only criticism there wasn’t enough drawn butter to go with that size lobster tail. We just barely had enough.
Delicious food. Impeccable service.
A very nice dining experience for adults and children.
We went here for Valentines Day 2020. Great Ambiance and attentive staff. My wife and I shared the Tomahawk steak medium and it was cooked to perfection but we opted to NOT add extra sauces and the steak was a little bland. They brought out some browned butter to add some flavor which sufficed. Wedge salad and Brussel sprouts were fantastic. Would definitely come back.
We had a reservation for Valentine’s Day. I received a phone call from Oceanaire a few days prior asking for my credit card info over the phone for the reservation I had already made through open table. I refused to give my info over the phone. I did however request a both. Upon arrival on Valentine’s Day I couldn’t find parking so I sent my girlfriend in first to claim our reservation. After paying 10 dollars for parking I went in and told them my name and they said my reservation was canceled. We argued and I insisted my Girlfriend was already in there but the manager insisted I was late and my reservation was canceled. Finally she understood me and showed me to our table which was in the back right by the kitchen. It was not a both like I requested. I informed the manager who told me reservations are only requests and i can wait for a booth if I wanted to. Well the place was packed and I said why do we have to wait for a booth if I requested it at a specified time over a week ago. I was told there were no booths left so I would have to take the table by the door or wait. Eventually the manager came back and gave us a booth. Our experience made us feel little like we didn’t belong there. We were offered free cocktails for our troubles but as a black couple if we accepted it would have seemed like we were complaining just to get something for free so I turned the cocktail offer down because this was about being treated poor and poor service.
Our server Seth was outstanding as always. We have been fortunate enough to have Seth as our server a couple of times. Pulls no strings and gives it to us straight. Food was great as always and the wine list was outstanding. A bit noisy for a Valentines dinner but we will take that into consideration our next visit.
I expected much better quality of food. It was mediocre and didn't worth money we paid. It was not bad, of course, but we may get same quality food in any two-star restaurant for 1/4 of price. However, bartender did his job well, it was best cocktail I had this year. I would come there again for cocktails but never for food.
Valentines - excellent food and service
Had an absolutely amazing valentines date here. This place is real nice and fancy and was well decorated. The food is some of the best seafood I have ever had. Will be coming back soon!
My husband's filet was very good. I started with the spicy high poke and that was very good. I then had the swordfish, black and blue. The swordfish was good but just a tad overdone in the middle. The cheesy auto gratin potatoes were excellent.
Great food overall great restaurant and quality is top notch. A little pricey but you get high quality food. Service is good but not at the Mastros level. I would go back again since the food is great.......
Great staff, great food
Great seafood with a daily menu. Wait staff is always courteous and show up at t he right time. Happy hour is really good fun with good eats at reasonable prices. The oyster bar always has the best selection from around the planet.
great menu and wine list combined with attentive service. You better go or someone else is eating your dinner.
Grilled sea bass was outstanding! Other entrees and oyster selection were very good. Service was challenged as the restaurant was very busy. Will definitely return for the quality of the seafood.
This is normally a very good restaurant. This occasion, not so much. From the time they removed our salad plates it was an hour and 5 minutes before our main course was delivered. When it arrived, my scallops were luke warm.
Made my own Seafood Tower:
Shrimp cocktail 5 out of 10
Oysters 3 out of 10
Oysters Rockerfeller 8 out of 10
We heard about the Oceanaire Seafood Restaurant while visiting San Diego on Business when our hotel advised us about restaurant week. This is a fairly upscale restaurant. While the food was delicious and worth every bite, the service was lacking. We got off to a good start being told they cook to order and would prepare our food according to our requests. That's where it ended as our Waiter came to our table and said the Chef wants to prepare our food his way and out came with our food not as ordered. When we questioned the preparation, the waiter states, "Obviously your not feeling it" and took the food and had the other staff put menus on the table. The Maitre d' attempted to save the experience after we explained what transpired. They prepared the food the way we asked, however, they charged us $20 extra to do it. We found the extra charge when we got our bill. We didn't say anything, paid the $200 bill and left. The food was excellent and if it wasn't for the handling of our order and then being ignored, we'd give a stronger rating. If I'm paying the bill, the food will be prepared our way, not the way the Chef wants to prepare it.
We would rather eat at Osetra Seafood & Steaks, San Diego. The service was excellent, food was excellent, environment was upscale fine dining and the evening was worth every bit of the $300 bill.
Osetra over Oceanaire every time!
We went there for SD Restaurant Week to check it out and had to ask for that particular menu since they push the regular one.
The atmosphere and food was great as always! The server not so much! The server is an integral part of the dining experience!
Reunion - good friends
Birthday Superb service
We visited Oceanaire during Restaurant Week in San Diego after reviewing many menus advertised on RW's website for upscale restaurants. We chose Oceanaire because frankly, its basically an "expense account" restaurant - the food is good but the prices are very high for what you get and not a place we would normally go to. After being escorted to our table, we were handed regular menus and before we could ask for the Restaurant Week menus, the hostess hurried away. We then waited 15 minutes before our server came to the table asking if we wanted a cocktail or appetizer. We ordered two cocktails and then asked for the Restaurant Week menus. She immediately changed her attitude and was actually quite rude - frowning at us before walking away. We could tell that she was disappointed that she had to take care of us. The rest of the evening went downhill from there. We were not made to feel welcome at all. It was quite uncomfortable and totally inexcusable. Clearly, the owners of Oceanaire willingly agreed to participate in Restaurant Week. I would think that they would welcome diners during this time in hopes that they would return! However, our experience with a server who was only interested in rushing us through our meal so she could turn our table over left us feeling very unwelcomed. We won't be back!
Fantastic waiter and experience. The food was perfectly cooked.
We've attended Oceanaire's happy hour but never sat down to eat. I don't know why we waited so long. The food, drinks and service were fabulous. You can't go wrong with Oceanaire.
Excellent meal and service! Would definitely return.
I booked a reservation at Oceanaire for San Diego Restaurant Week & I am so happy I did. The service was amazing. Our server, Ben, made recommendations, switched out my boyfriend’s cup of soup for a bowl when he accidentally made an error in his order, and was enthusiastic throughout our meal. It appeared everyone worked well as a team as staff constantly filled our waters, took our bill immediately, and we were never left searching for staff/our waiter.
I do wish they would have waited a bit between courses, as we were still enjoying our first course when they brought out our second. I enjoyed the truffalo beef tips, although the breading did easily fall off on some pieces and the clam chowder was delicious - it had smaller pieces of clam than chunks, which I prefer. For our entree, we had the swordfish which came with caramelized onions, fried onions, and blue cheese. I wish there were other vegetables accompanying the dish, but the fish was cooked very well. Overall, a great experience and I plan to come back for happy hour to try their selection of oysters.
Food and service was great!
Amazing restaurant always a fantastic time, great food and awesome service
Everything was GREAT from the food to the Service!! Will for sure be going back
