Always outstanding – it’s a very special restaurant
We went for brunch, with a reservation and waited about 10 mins for a table (even though there were many open) and then waited FOREVER for our food. It was good and we will go back to try again, for dinner. But, praying that the service will be better.
Great thank you
We ate at Ocean at Main on Saturday at 5 PM. It was a date night for my wife and I. We sat next to the fountain. Nice ambiance for us. Our waitress was awesome! Great personality and very knowledgeable of the food. I strongly recommend the cocktails. Food was great. I loved the beet salad. Enjoyed the scallops as well.
Outstanding from start to finish!
Excellent service! Brunch on the patio was very pleasant. My only issue was that nobody could answer a question about the champagne served in the bottomless mimosa
great variety of choices in all menu categories every dish we had was delicious
This is a place for regular dining or special occasions! Ambiance is great. Food is outstanding. While many people including me pas by the chicken on a menu Oceans chicken is by far the best youbwill ever have. Boned, pressed, skin coated and seasoned. I recommend this over anything on the menu. You will not be disappointed!
Chef Craig is EXCEPTIONAL! in every way - His place is charming, warm, inviting and his food is delicious! LOVE HIM AND THIS PLACE!
I love the whole experience ! We have eaten here several times and it is really unique but also something for everyone. Thx mixed green salad has an amazing dressing . And I recommend the salmon , ribeye and short ribs.
Creative cuisine, loved the cigars (short ribs) presentation in the ashtray - just darling. Enjoyed the lobster ravioli and the great latte's too. Nice martini as well, just how I ordered it.
Amazing food great service and lots of menu choices!!
Terrible service tonight even though we ate there a week ago. Ordered a bottle Of Rose and it came warm . They took back to chill it for few minutes and it came back warm again. Shocking is why they are giving the server a warm bottle to begin with. Ask for the sommelier help which which came in 5 minutes later with a great smile to say that they will try to chill the wine again but did not offer any reason why they are giving a warm bottle to begin with and did not even apologize for that. That smile was not helpful. Left without ordering dinner.
Everything great. I was charged for an extra martini which came from the bar tab over to the dining tab. It was so busy I just let it go. There was some time between finishing our appetizers and getting our main course but Taylor was very kind and handled it with grace. She comped the dessert.
We saw a review of the restaurant in the West Ways AAA Magazine and we decided to go. Very glad we did.
The patio seating was comfortable and added to the meal. We shared several plates and they all were excellent. The restaurant filled up very quickly, so I am glad I made a reservation. If you go to Laguna, please enjoy their unique cuisine.
The style of the restaurant is very nice and stylish. We had the Salmon with fennel( pickled fennel) the fennel was way to overpowering for the salmon. We also had lobster ravioli and it was very salty. The cocktails were good. The service was poor. We had to ask for wine menus a couple of times. There was a lot of people working there but it seemed very disorganized . I was hoping for better based on past reviews but was very disappointed.
We just had our Anniversary dinner here and it was a fabulous experience from start to finish and will be back !
Sadly the overall experience was dismal. Attentiveness and service levels were very, very good. Drinks were perfect. Food was disappointing. Undercooked pork belly, overcooked chicken, octopus very good, burger good, burger bun was too much bread, and took away from the quality of the dish.
The food is incredible, we will keep coming back & referring it to everyone we can!
Food was delicious. Definitely enjoyed the unique dishes and flavors. Ryan was an amazing mixologist...cocktails are amazing!
Nice restaurant. Smallish menu, but something for all tastes and food is very good. Service is good, attentive.
I have been here often - the menu is interesting and the food always so very good - the only negative thing about this restaurant is the service. I can't exactly pinpoint why either. Sometimes someone will appear shortly after sitting down; other times they scurry on by and it could 10-20 minutes before you get attention. This is a popular place and I know the pressure in on the kitchen but there seems to be long pauses between courses. I now have learned to 'go with the flow' and not be so impatient. Unless you have giant wads of money buried under the mattress, this will not be a place you frequent every few days.....the drinks alone can take a big hunk of the wad. Despite all of this, I'll be back!
Our dinners were delicious, the patio was nice, but there had been lovely lemon trees by the fountain and little white lights that created such a special vibe under prior ownership. The umbrellas and lack if potted plants around the fountain were disappointing. The dining room may be a better area to dine. Diane did a great job as did the bread guy. We got. Special anniversary dessert which was delicious. Very thoughtful. Thank you
The food lives up to Chef Strong’s reputation from The Studio and his time at the Montage but the service does not. I’ve eaten here twice and absolutely love everything I’ve ordered and though the evening service was slow, they were personable. Not so during Sunday brunch. Initially I was surprised to walk in and see only 4 tables occupied at 1pm on a Sunday (the height of brunch) but I quickly learned why. The service was terrible. We waited forever to have our drink order taken from the most disagreeable waiter and then it took an unusually long time for the bartender to mix a greyhound and two mimosas when no one else in the place were ordering drinks! Perhaps because he and several other waiters were standing at the bar talking instead of waiting on customers? It also took forever to get our food and we had to flag down our waiter who was busy talking to the bartender to order more drinks. Where it just the case of one bad waiter on an odd Sunday, I wouldn’t bother to post the experience but the table next to us ended up complaining to the MOD. If the food hadn’t been amazing, we would have probably left. Chef needs to bring his staff up to the level of his food or he won’t be in business for long.
Very creative food
Beautiful and cozy restaurant in the heart of Laguna Beach with great food, service, and ambience. We had brunch there and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ryan and Isaiah made our night...they all did, but those two were the BEST! Ask for he “antique soul”... it’s a spin off a Manhattan and it’s amazing...thank you Ryan! Isaiah was our waiter and extremely attentive and well knowledgeable! Great evening!
Excellent service....great food. We will be back soon
We weren't seated for 45 minutes after our reservation. The service was slow...seemed like there were lots of assistants but only a few waiters. The drinks and food took a a long time to come out as well. Ran into some friends there and they felt the same way as did the people sitting next to them. It's unfortunate because the restaurant's ambiance is wonderful.
Service was not good
Wait for food and drinks was long
Waiter was terrible
Chef was great
Amazing food and great atmosphere!
We have been here several times. They get it right every time! Thanks. Laguna Beach locals.
The best restaurant in Laguns Beach. Hands down. Get the salmon.
Amazing. Chef Strong was great! Service GREAT!
This is a wonderful place in every respect. A former 1930's bank building has been renovated into a bright and modern indoor/outdoor, casual and elegant restaurant preserving original murals and tiles. The chef, Craig Strong, whose credentials are impeccable, has created an original very palatable menu at reasonable prices. You can find Craig in the kitchen and also visiting diners with a friendly welcome. The restaurant's diners are clearly enjoying themselves, and there is no noise to be concerned with. The service is excellent. The restaurant is located literally a block away from the main street and the ocean. You cannot go wrong. We celebrated my husband's birthday, and it was a very fine evening. Thank you, Craig!
The menu selections were disappointing but the food was tasty. The patio ambiance was nice. Unfortunately the service was lacking. I’ll give it another try at some time in the future.
We've eaten here at least 10 times and every time it's amazing.
Craig Strong, the owner and chef is so personable--he comes around and talks to you about the nuances of the different dishes. A real personal touch. He was the former executive chef for Studio Restaurant at the Montage, which is generally regarded as one of the best restaurants in Orange County. It seems like everyone who works there is an experienced, career restaurant person; so the table service, the mixologist, even the reception are all very appropriate and professional.
The restaurant is in the old Laguna Federal Savings building, which has been restored lovingly. Nice, softly modern beach decor. The patio is especially nice. There's a beautiful fountain with Lagauna art tiles and some original murals. There's an open kitchen in the main dining room and exposed beam ceilings, with a small bar separated from the dining room.
We have sampled probably half the menu and here are are some of our favorites so far: The Waygu beef is something every meat eater should experience at least once. There's also a hamburger on the menu where they make and aoli from the Waygu steak and use it to cook the burger. Just ridiculous.
The beet salad is beautifully presented with edible flowers and has what looks like an egg yolk on top. It's actually yellow beets that have been pureed to the texture of a yolk and it tastes delightful. The short rib cigars are like best tasting tacquitos you've ever had. I think the salmon is one of the best I've had locally. The house made turkey sausage pizza is really addictive. I could eat one of those daily and never get tired of it.
All of the deserts are excellent. We tend to go for the chocolate torte or the blueberry crisp.
There is going to be a time in the not too distant future, when you'll have to book out a few weeks to get a table at Ocean and Main. So get in there soon.
We were a group of 7 having a pre-Pageant dinner on a Saturday evening. We arrived early for our reservation and they very graciously accommodated us as fast as possible. All of the servers and other staff were very friendly, helpful & efficient. Everyone was more than satisfied with their food. I had grilled salmon that was delicious and a very generous serving. Others in our party loved the ravioli with shrimp. We finished a very good bottle of wine, suggested by our server (Wildflower Sauvignon blanc from New Zealand) and we very happy to find we could order more by the glass and even by the half glass. It was a very enjoyable pre-Pageant dinner and an easy walk to The Pageant afterwards.
The best meal we’ve had so far on our trip! Chef Craig Strong and his team have created something very special! Will recommend to everyone I know.
