About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Romantic
Located on Charleston's historic Broad Street, Oak Steakhouse is a classic American steakhouse. A classic array of both wet and dry aged Certified Angus® Beef are featured on the menu. Ingredients are sourced locally and regionally from sustainable farmers and fisherman to accent the steakhouse menu. Items including local oysters on the half-shell, Clammer Dave's caper clams and a daily fresh fish selection depending on the season. Other popular dishes include the whole fried lobster, goat.sheep.cow artisanal cheese plate, wedge of Kurios Farms bibb lettuce salad, the house-made pasta and vegetarian plate. The expansive and impressive wine program at Oak Steakhouse emphasizes big California Cabernets and Old World reds from Italy and Bordeaux with more than 200 wines by the bottle and 20 wines by the glass. The bar attracts a loyal, local following from nearby businesses and neighborhoods with its great cocktails and happy hour. Inside a historic bank building that dates back to 1848, Oak's stately setting features three floors with five distinct dining areas. Arched windows, 20-foot ceilings, original metal work, fireplaces and 150-year-old heart pine floors, offers the perfect setting for enjoying a special evening.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: In a historic bank building from 1848, Oak Steakhouse rises up three stories of leather booths, exposed brick, and cozy fireplaces. This is the place for seafood towers, Angus steaks, and bold Cabernets. It’s the heart of the Indigo Road group, helmed by James Beard semifinalist restaurateur Steve Palmer. There are now seven locations across the South, but none beat the original—Condé Nast Traveler calls it one of the best restaurants in Charleston, while others rank it among the best steakhouses in the country.

For years our family heard how amazing Oak Steakhouse would be, and we were so looking forward to an amazing meal. The restaurant itself presents so nicely, and the personnel were very down to earth. However, the overall taste of the steaks in particular were less than expected. The filet mignon was not as tender as one would expect from a top level restaurant, such as this, and the New York strip had nearly no taste at all. The only real taste was the charting on the outside. All was ordered is medium rear, but we found ourselves, adding sauces and salt and pepper and butter to get some something. I’m not sure how to put it. When the evening was done, and the bill was paid, I felt like we had had a decent meal at an extravagant price. Again the atmosphere was nice, and the people were gracious, but the food just didn’t live up to the expectations that have been set over the years.

Exceptional dining experience. Jackson was a top notch waiter from wine selection through dessert, he was knowledgeable and gave excellent recommendations. Shrimp cocktail was the best my husband has ever had, and he’s had a lot! Steaks were both done to perfection and the crab Oscar was delicious with more crab than others we have had. The chocolate cake was a perfect ending. Highly recommend and may plan a return trip to Charleston, just to dine here again.

We came here after we did a small elopement. The restaurant went above and beyond to celebrate us. They had custom menus, along with heart shaped champagne glasses, waiting for us at the table. The food was amazinngggg and the chef made us a complimentary dessert. It was the perfect dinner to celebrate and it was all thanks to them. Our server Rick was awesome as well. Highly recommend!!!!!

Service was ok. Wait time from ordering to the main course being served. Food was like warm and the half the tables were empty. Price - $240.00. They need to visit Chicago and eat at a real stake house - Gibson’s, Rose Budd just to name a few establishments.

I looked forward to a great steak dinner but was disappointed. The food was cold and so was our waiter Ryan. He never returned to our table once our meal was served. Our waiter stood behind me while addressing only my husband which I found off putting at best. Our meal cost $250.00 without tip. I love rock music but it was played at a loud volume and really not the best choice for a steak house. The oak steak house was a beautiful restaurant but I would not recommend it.
