About Oak and Almond

Oak and almond wood fuels our wood burning oven and stove. Imparting an earthy quality to many of our menu items, these hardwoods are at the heart of our restaurant's philosophy.

With cuisine inspired by the traditions & techniques of yesteryear, our philosophy is simple: provide delicious handcrafted food, created with well sourced seasonal ingredients with a focus on hearth & flame, Organic Farm to Table. We source the best artesian ingredients and prepare them simply with respect. The wine program highlights biodynamic and organic selections, which compliment the simple integrity of our menu.

An 18 foot communal table, crafted from local 100 year old oak floorboards anchors the dining room. Hand-rubbed walnut tables, industrial fixtures, and an open kitchen featuring a wood burning oven and stove provide a modern yet warm dining experience.

The Oak & Almond is consistently good and that is very important in choosing a restaurant. Service, too, is always friendly and helpful.

Service was slow, food wasn’t up to par. The manager comped the meal, however it was still a bad experience. We usually like eating here.

Overall, everything was great. Cozy ambience. Delicious drinks and food - the only thing I was disappointed in was my salmon which I did not like at all. I would still go back though - just wouldn't order that again.

We had never been to this restaurant so thought we would give it a try. In my open table reservation special notation was made that a quiet table was necessary. I included my email address just in case.
Upon arrival we found the two hostesses in a spirited conversation with their backs to us. We waited and finally ask if we could get some help. I explained my open table reservation and request and was promptly told that special requests cannot always be fulfilled. After I pretty much insisted on a quiet table we were told the only table available was in a corner of the loud and boisterous dining room. This room was one of many rooms with open tables but somehow the hostess insisted we sit at this specific table. When things got difficult a youn man interceded and explain of course we could have a quiet table and he led us to a quiet pleasant corner table in a smaller room. Note we were not alone in this room and there were several other tables in this same room that were open and available.
Based on the experience we had I would be hesitant to suggest this restaurant to friends.
The hostess mess really put a shadow on the evening. You are only as good as your weakest link and inattentive hostesses are the first customer contact and thus they best be well versed and flexible and able to offer alternatives. I have to ask for quiet tables as my spouse has had a series of strokes and excessive noise/sound are very upsetting to him. Food was wonderful. And plentiful. Experience was not so good.

I had eaten lunch at Oak and Almond, but had never gone for dinner. Will definitely go again. Four people ordered four different dishes (chicken, steak, and two different fish dishes), and everyone was raving about their entree, as well as the ambience. This restaurant is a (somewhat hidden) gem.

It was our second time there. We were anxious to go back since we loved it so much the first time. Everything was very good but the cobbler could have had more crust!

Drove from NJ just to have their amazing roasted chicken and potatoes. I get there and it’s mid afternoon about 1:30 PM and the waiter and chef accommodated me wanting an item that was from the diner menu. The waiter who previously assisted us on our last visit was very kind and actually remembered my spouse and I. This is just such an amazing place and it was worth the drive and the price as well. Will visit again for sure!

Very disappointing second visit. We had really enjoyed a previous visit on a Saturday evening. But the food was not good on our recent Sunday evening visit. Maybe Sunday evening is a bad time to visit this restaurant. I ordered the special pork chops both times. It was delicious the first time and came with a fresh veggie side. On Sunday, the chops were chewy and came with sodium laced white beans, that tasted like they were warmed up from a can. Also did not like the bourbon pecan pie, I have had better pecan pies from shop and stop.

Our visit to Oak and Almond got off to a very rough start after a server had not shown up approx. 15 minutes after we had been seated. I walked up to the hostess desk and asked if they could see about getting us service. Instead of doing this, the hostess walked up to the table a couple of minutes later and basically questioned how we got to the table and if we even had a reservation. Naturally we had a reservation and her coworker seated us and gave us menus so I did not like her accusatory nature and tone. Instead she should have come up to us and asked nicely and said she was trying to figure out what happened. The manager sorted the issue and he then made sure we were served correctly...even though the overall service from the waiter left a lot to be desired. Service issues aside, the food was very good so we will give them another chance to get the entire experience right next time.

Everything was great. We got there early and were seated promptly without having to wait until our reservation. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The table we were first assigned turned out to be close to the door to the outside patio, and it was a cool day, so we mentioned this and were moved to a nice seat by the window without any fuss or delay. The selection was varied and food we ordered was perfectly prepared. There was a food allergy which was well handled, and a menu dish was altered to accommodate, without sacrificing the flavor/sauce. I would definitely come here again, and highly recommend it to anyone.

A lovely after work dinner with a friend. Gorgeous outdoor area - heaters for the slight chill in the air. The food tastes authentic - fresh produce and cooked to perfection. We shared the funghi flatbread, cheese board and warm olives. We didn’t finish everything and we both quite satisfied. Will definitely be going back.

I had dinner with 7 business associates and for the most part the meals were great. However the Tuna, two of the seven meals, was offered as seared and was way over done. I would have returned the over cooked tuna but the waiter never came back to the table. Considering the other five meals I will go back and try Oak and Almond again. Bottom line: Five great meals and 2 not so great meals and a very poor waiter.

Although the food was very good, the service was the poorest in a restaurant in some time - from the awkward host experience through 35 minutes before a waiter came to our table and appetizers appearing long before drinks. The waiter seemed disappointed when we wanted to order dessert.

Seated my date and me in a side room on a plastic folding table. The carrying handle was hitting me in the midsection. Nobody else in the room. Some sort of event going on in the main dining room. Asked about sitting at the bar, they confirmed there was a table. As we walked there they gave the table away. We left.

This is an excellent resturant for business meetings, parties, or a date. The audio level is just right to be able to have conversations. The outdoor seating is inviting when the weather is nice while the indoor seating is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The food is prepared fresh from local and sustainably sourced ingrediants with an ever changing menu. The staff is friendly and knowledgible providing excellent service. With all these positive attributes I would expect to pay top dollar, but the prices put chain resturants to shame with most entres under $20. I would highly recommend this resturant to anyone in the area.

Oak and Almond prides itself on using ingredients found locally around Connecticut. This results in dishes highlighting the fresh ingredients of various food groups through simplistic dishes. Have come here three times and the meats and sea food dishes are prepared well and delicious.
The staff welcome you with a smile and carry out that warm and friendly persona throughout your stay.
The interior theme is mix of rustic and industrial and is very comfortable and appealing to the eye. They offer outdoor seating as well.

We had "dinner" here the other night. It wasn't our first time, however, it will probably be our last. The service was pretty bad, one of our appetizers was late getting to the table by 10 minutes. The main course's were bland at best. A server, when clearing a table nearby, dropped a glass on the pavers (sat outside), it shattered and hit my wife, as well as me, and my daughter. We let the waiter know that we were just hit with some broken glass, he didn't really have much to say other than he was sorry. We know things happen, but it was the way the waiter, and then the manager handled it, or I should say didn't handle it. Our children were excited to potentially get dessert, so we ordered some deserts. Of all the things we ordered, the Cheesecake was the only thing worth its heavy cost.

We have been to many a restaurant, and if an incident like that were to happen almost anywhere else, the waitstaff would have offered something? Dessert for the kids, coffee, a drink? Nothing. Full price for everything we had ordered.

Again, I get that accidents happen, it is how they are handled that matters I feel. We would have declined the offer for something for free as it was just an accident. But to not address the fact that there was broken glass on our table, and around us I believe to be an issue.

We have eaten here a few times, and it was a good experience. So, we picked it for my husband's birthday celebration. Unfortunately, this Sunday's brunch was not a good one. There were four of us for brunch and three meals came out together, two French Toasts and one pancake plus bacon. Everything was ice cold. We sent all of it back. The fourth person's meal arrived after the first three went back. She ate alone while we watched her. Eventually, the three cold meals reappeared and were fine.

We watched someone who appeared to be the manager walking around, and he never came to the table to discuss/apologize. The restaurant was 25% full, so it wasn't because he was very busy. We would have thought the restaurant staff might have tried to make it right with an offer of a free dessert or something, but that was not the case.

Very disappointing.

Love this restaurant and we're excited to sit outside for the first time. However we were place right next to where they keep all the extra silverware and salt, etc and all of the waitstaff would gather and chitchat there. It was not ideal. The waitstaff at the end of the night obviously cared less because it was the end of the night and we had less care and attention than normal.
