O-Ku - Raleigh
I think the restaurant was good but not great. At such a high price point, you expect outstanding food. I’m certainly hopefully that this restaurant is successful as it’s beautiful and a nice addition to the downtown scene. It just fell slightly short of my expectations. Sorry!
We had a 9 pm reservation and we were not seated until close to 10. We ordered some sushi and it was average at best. The rolls had very little fish and a lot of rice. At $16+ per roll, this was unacceptable.
Our 3rd time at O-Ku and really love this place. The only two things I'd say based on this last visit... It seemed like they were just a bit too busy for their own good... it felt a bit chaotic.... though our server was still very attentive. All three times we have been we've ordered a bottle of champagne and all three times it it has come out not properly chilled.... we always end up waiting a bit while it sits on ice. But... highly recommend!
Went to O-ku for the first time for my birthday dinner and absolutely loved it. Great service and great ambiance, will definitely be back!
O-Ku is everything! From the atmosphere, customer service, food, management. Incredible. Our server Josh was incredible to the complimentary valet! We were treated like we were the only ones there which definitely was not true, thank you!. The food was magnificent and the drinks impeccable! We have made another reservation and O-Ku is at the top of the list for restaurant pics for our group!! Thanks Josh and O-Ku staff for making it a great night!!!
The bartender (Trenton) was great. He took great care of us. The food was amazing. It’s pricey though. My wife and I spent about $200 for dinner and drinks (two each), but we’ll definitely go back.
Atmosphere, food and service was a new experience for Raleigh - felt like I was in another city that was much more metropolitan than Raleigh. Would recommend to anyone looking for a new experience. i will be returning soon.
Excellent all around! Highly recommend and will definitely be back!!
LOVE this place. And they're "happy hour" specials on food are ridiculously good.
All around amazing dinner. Will definitely be back.
If you're looking for a place to empty your wallet, and not fill your belly, this is your place. I've been to plenty of excellent non-BOGO sushi places in the Triangle, and this one is definitely the worst I've been to thus far. I ordered a sampling of their sushi to include: hamachi, ikura, and baby eel, as well as a specialty roll. The nigiri wasn't great for the arm and leg I had to pay for it, and the specialty roll had almost no flavor at all. The uni was good, but it was $10 for one piece the size of my thumb, and again, been to places around here that charge $6/$7 for that same piece. Oh, and when the bill came, the total was more than I ordered. One of my guilty pleasures is spending good money on great dining experiences, but this place is a rip-off.
Food was so good & the service was great. Hip type of restaurant, in an neat area of town. Definitely will be back!!
Food was amazing, creative and so diverse. Great sushi. Decor was delightful and the service was top notch. Very accommodating for my gluten free, soy free friend. Highly recommend. Listing it as one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh.
This restaurant just began serving lunch and our server really went above and beyond to make it a great experience. He was very knowledgable and definitely a wealth of information. We loved the food we ordered.
Amazing experience! Great service, great food!
We had a great time at O Ku! The service was great. Even though the restaurant was very busy, the servers and managers were very attentive and kept us updated on our food. Everything was delicious. We’ll definitely be back!
O-Ku was absolutely fantastic! The food was incredible and so unique and our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered excellent recommendations. I will be back very soon!
My wife and I just ate at O-Ku on Saturday night and it was fantastic! Definitely ask for Lupita, her service was exceptional and her suggestions were all terrific/delicious! Some reviews spoke about the service being spotty, but we had nothing to complain about whatsoever and would request Lupita again. She did a great job of always being there when we needed something, but not checking in too often.
If you're looking for a great drink for the night, try the Shogun. My wife is not a gin fan whatsoever and after trying my drink she switched quickly and could not stop talking about how good it was.
As for the food, the nigiri is totally worth the price, with very fresh, large pieces of nigiri to justify the price. We ordered a few rolls and the Tuna Wrap and Sake-Ikura are fantastic. We also ordered the Samurai from the Hakosushi section and loved it. Don't be scared off from the prices, because you get exactly what you pay for, extremely fresh, flavorful, delicious sushi with terrific service and great ambiance.
Amazing! Food and service
We were in Raleigh to celebrate our Anniversary and could not have been happier with O-Ku. We are fans of the location in Charlotte so we’re very eager to try this location. Jacob, our server, was on point with his recommendations and his service was absolutely A+. Food was amazing, on par with Charlotte. Only criticism is that they don’t serve Duck Buns which Charlotte does. Otherwise looking forward to our next visit.
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Ok-u. The service was incredible and the staff was super friendly. The sushi was fabulous and they have half off rolls during happy hour Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Made another reservation for next week!
We had an excellent first visit to O-Ku. The food was fresh and delicious and our server Tanya was exceptional. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and we'll definitely be back!
Absolutely fabulous! Delicious food, fantastic service, beautiful ambience and simply perfection! Our waiter, Jamie, was just the greatest. He took amazing care of us and made top notch food recommendations. Plus every single dish was bliss.
Two big thumbs up to O-Ku! I’ll definitely be back!
The valet parking is a considerate gesture. The sushi rolls are fine, especially when it’s happy hour (half price), and the indoor decor is stylish. We ordered a dish called “Hanger”, recommended by the waitress, but it was probably the most miserable beef barbecue I had ever tasted, since it was hard to chew and overly juicy. The service was not satisfactory at all—we had to sit there, ignored, unable to find any waiter or waitress to help us, until our waitress finally realized we were ready to order and came all the way back from some unknown corner of the room. Overall, it’s not really worth the fuss and flair.
The nigri and sushi rolls at O-KU were outstanding. The quality of fish was superb and the flavors of the rolls were well balanced. Our wine and cocktails were delicious and the ambiance was lovely.
Our waitress was not personable and actually commented on the size of the number of rolls were ordered multiple times. She used phrases like, "Wow, you all ordered a ton of rolls." " Your order is going to take longer because of the number of rolls you ordered." When our food arrived, she said, "This is a huge platter but we do have a larger one." This is really rude. My friend and I were having a girls night out and didn't need the food shaming comments. She's in the service industry and her tip is directly correlated with how much we order... soo.. it seems obvious to me that she wouldn't say things like this. It's also just unkind. This waitress has no idea about my and my friends personal life. What if we struggled in the past with eating issues? Waiters should display self awareness around customers. It's just common sense.
Best seafood I have had in Raleigh.
NYE dining was amazing! We were quickly accommodated and the staff, food and atmosphere were amazing! We will definitely recommend this place to everyone we know and are the biggest fans!
We had the Omakase with pairings for NYE dinner. The food was plentiful and delicious. It was a nice way to extend the night on this special evening!
O-Ku was the perfect spot for a NYE dinner for 2 couples! Sort of a tapas style sushi situation. We had a FANTASTIC night with tons of amazing food. The high points were the Hamachi Crunch and the Samurai, plus the Rock Shrimp appetizer and the fried oysters. The best was the o-toro nigiri, absolutely to die for. The cocktails were delicious but not strong at all. An added bonus was the complementary champagne for New Year's! We will definitely be back to this great spot!
Great experience at O-Ku. Service was good and quick. Sushi and wagyu were very good. Valet in front of the restaurant was key in making sure we arrived at our reservation time without driving around for parking. Highly recommend and will be returning.
Service was impeccable and that made the experience so memorable. Staff is engaging and knowledgeable and so pleasant and kind. Beautiful food - complex flavors and textures and nice to be surprised with such attention to detail. The ambiance is so cool as well - lots of textures and big lights. A treat from the reserved, unengaged service experienced in downtown Raleigh well known spots. I felt welcome and very special - many thanks for making the evening so great!
Great food. Poor service. I asked for a drink menu when food was served and server didn't return until meal over.
Service was world class as was the food.
Everything was amazing. We will be back!
Relaxed yet elegant space. Lighting was perfect, noise was moderate. Food was creative and deliciously prepared. Our server Willow was knowledgeable about the menu, helpful with suggestions, very pleasant and attentive. Would recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves Asian food with an upscale twist.
I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to have an exceptional dining experience. It is the perfect place for date night or just a group of friends to share some delicious food. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was perfection! Our waitress Tanya was great with explaining the menu and helping us pick out the perfect pairings. I went with my family and we ordered a variety of options off the menu. Everything was brought out as soon as it was ready so that it was as fresh as possible. The rock shrimp (o-ku style) and the samurai sushi were my favorite two dishes. We will definitely be going back!!
Food is delicious! Acoustics are pretty loud but overall a great experience!
Family dinner. Heard great things and had to give it a go. Sushi was excellent as were the rolls and yakitori. Suggest a Sancerre by the glass as it’s a great pairing with the menu. Server disappeared for twenty minutes when we were looking to pay the bill but got involved in a large party. Toro (sashimi and nigiri) lived up to all expectations. The diverse menu (chicken and rice) will also appeal to those who may not like sushi - unlike places like M Sushi and Waraji. Overall excellent and will definitely return. Interior and overall ambiance perfect for date night, girl’s night out or even a business dinner.
Overall we had a great experience at o-ku. The food was hit or miss, some dishes we loved and others we didn’t care for at all. The service was phenomenal and we loved the ambience. One of the better sushi locations in DTR.
Very loud, took FOREVER to get our food. Will not go back. Too many other good options for a pleasant night out in Raleigh.
