About this restaurant

Widely recognised as one of Scotland’s finest restaurants, Number One is a gastronomic retreat from the city streets. Set in the Balmoral hotel on Princes Street, everything from the grand entrance of the hotel itself down to the fine details of the restaurant’s service is spectacularly well executed. With its luscious decadence, the interior of Number One is clearly designed with special occasions in mind. The feel is formal yet unstuffy – no wonder that the restaurant picked up 2008’s Fine Dining Experience Award at the 2008 Scottish Restaurant Awards. Number One has many accolades, for it's thoughtful cuisine, made with excellent Scottish ingredients, lives up to the expectations set by the surroundings.

    Had the 7 course tasting menu and every course was excellent, as were the well informed staff and ambience. Would highly recommend for special occasions and the like, as it's not cheap, but I guess the quality of the food and staff are why it's pricey.

    Excellent fine dining in the stately Balmoral Hotel. Food was excellent and beautifully prepared. Service was friendly and on-spot. Dining room is elegant and comfortable. I'd recommend without hesitation and would return on another visit.

    Number One is in our Top Three - we were impressed by everything. The decor is so fun! Very chic plus "old school" but also very comfortable. The food was beyond - perfection. We couldn't believe how complex and absolutely delicious every single thing was. (We did the tasting menu + wine pairing.) Lastly, and maybe most importantly these days...the service. Absolutely impeccable. Our wine was always perfectly timed with our food. The level of finessed collaboration was impressive. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable about what we were eating - not just a couple of people. We felt like Number One is just the way a very fine restaurant should be. Particularly a Michelin starred restaurant. Thank you for such a special and delicious evening.

    A beautiful dining experience and lovely atmosphere. Tasting menu did not disappoint, the Pigeon Starter a highlight.

    Went to Number one in Edinburgh's Princess Street Balmoral Hotel on Saturday evening and once again had the best meal ever started with the goats cheese - yummy then had Salmon for main and banana souffle to follow excellent. the little titbits in between were excellent too as was the bread. Not the cheapest but certainly the best!

    My husband and I booked this restaurant as a treat before embarking on a 170 mile cycle ride from Edinburgh to Newcastle! The whole experience was outstanding. The food and service was excellent. We will definately be returning

    We dined at Number One at the Balmoral Hotel when we stayed at the Hotel after christmas and our experience was what you might expect of an award winning restaurant. service and food both impressive, everything artistically presented and the atmosphere warm and inviting. It is, of course, expensive, so it has to be a rare treat, but we would certainly go again
