North Italia - Washington DC
our family's total experience at north italia was great. the ambiance was terrific, the service was attentive and friendly, the food was excellent......a very enjoyable time!! this was our third time dining at north italia and we will most certainly be back.
this is a great addition to the Pennsylvania Ave neighborhood - especially since it is open all afternoon - not just opening at 5:30 PM for dinner.
It is much quieter at off hours as well.
Food is pretty good too!
Although he food never disappoints and the atmosphere is very nice, the service was absolutely horrible this time. This is reason enough to not come back anytime soon - she ignored us and was rude the entire night.
Business meeting with my team. A bit noisy but we were able to conduct our business and have a wonderful lunch!
I've eaten at North Italia twice now, and both times had a very satisfying experience. The zucca chips are addictive; and the "crispy" fried calamari over arugula with grilled lemon vinaigrette was very good -- although the calamari could have been just a tad crispier. They make a delicious simple salad, with pine nuts and gorgonzola vinaigrette. A friend ordered the Tuscan kale salad with pancetta, charred grapes, apple and pistacchio (parmesan vinaigrette) and was very happy with his choice. But the highlights for me were the pastas. The pasta bolognese (the house specialty) in a velvety sauce was truly excellent. And the squid ink mafaldine, with shrimp and calamari in a piquant red sauce was delightfully spicy and tasty -- even though I ordinarily don't care for squid ink pasta. (The server said it was her favorite dish). The restaurant is spacious, and can get fairly noisy in the bar area during happy hour -- although the noise level was acceptable at a table at the other end of the restaurant.
Excellent food and excellent atmosphere. Happened to go during DC restaurant week so we received a special for a 3-course meal and everything was superb and large enough portions to share. Service was great, never felt like I had to ask for anything. Loved the windows at the front of the restaurant and open concept.
Madeline is very nice..
The wait staff was wonderful! Very nice meal before a show at Kennedy center...
Our server, Jackson, was excellent! Great attitude and very attentive! Nice experience overall. Going back tomorrow for brunch.
Fantastic pizza and salad. Great service. Comfortable.
I highly recommend North Italia. The food and service are always excellent. They will split dishes in the kitchen for those of us who like to share. The salmon is always cooked perfectly. And he pasta dishes are always delicious.
Giant food in my food
Second time at this establishment and it was totally enjoyable.
Our meal and service was excellent! It was my friend’s birthday and it felt like a special occasion for us all. Thanks!
The food was amazing! Everything down to the drinks, pizza (gluten-free MH is to die for), dessert was spot on. I had the chicken parm and the tiramisu! Delicious! I will definitely be returning soon!
The dry-aged burger was cooked to perfection....and the caramelized onion marmelade was just right.
Well located window table for quiet conversation is not-busy setting. Congenial hostess and waitress. Excellent food and drink. Pasta Bolognese lived up to its billing.
Both food and service were excellent at brunch. Our 4 year old grandson was made to feel welcome and special.
We have eaten here three times and it has been very good. This time the entrees were way to sweet. We didn't have to pay and was offered a complimentary dessert. Overall a good experience
Great food, great service and lovely ambiance.
The sauces were way too heavy and the pasta portions not equaled by the meat (chicken pesto dish)
I have a feeling the place will not be around very long. They need bigger variety of light sauces and meat and fish options.
I would call the place "South Italia" with the heavy rage type flavors. Too much in one plate.
One of the best meals we’ve ever had! Definitely recommend the short rib and the pasta alla norcina! The two complaints I have are that they gave us dessert when we were still finishing dinner and tried to take away my dinner when I wasn’t done. Other than that 9/10.
Great as Always!
Food was amazing and the atmosphere is perfect for an intimate date or family outing. We will definitely dine there more often.
Great Great service and wonderful food! Thanks for making our leap into 2020 memorable!
Had the seasonal salad and thoroughly enjoyed. My friend had the Tuscan kale salad (which I had the last time) and also enjoyed. Great service and food, I plan to return often.
Food and service was fantastic! Good Italian food in an upscale but not stuffy environment. Definitely recommend.
The good bread and olive oil was delicious!!! Pasta was perfectly al dente and the meatballs and chicken parm... well, just perfect!
We enjoyed a great meal before a show at the Kennedy Center. The food and service were both very good. This is definitely a go-to spot for us now.
Wonderful service, delicious food, fun atmosphere, great spot!
We had a very strange experience here. I think it is important to feel welcomed and greeted in a restaurant. The front desk person was impolite and did not greet us. Our waiter did not bother even asking us how the food was. He came to check if we needed to order desert. As we did not order desert, he came back with a check, put it on our table without saying a word, and then disappeared. When we left, the front desk person stood there watching us leave without saying a word.
They don't give bread and the food we had was just bland but all of these could have been OK if we felt we were served politely and warmly. We are not going to go back there.
They’ve become a bit arrogant on their pricing with their Michelin 1 star. Paying for quality is fine, price gouging is not. $10 for a coffee and $14 for a double espresso? Please.
Service should be exceptional and was not
Thank you for your review and I am sorry to hear about your experience here at North Italia. We just opened in February and currently aren't rated with Michelin. I have also audited our pricing for all our coffee drinks and average $3.50-$4.00. If there was error on our part I would like to rectify the situation. If you wouldn't mind giving me a call or email, I would like to know more about your experience with us. Matt (AGM) 202-803-8051
Very nice ambiance. Delicious burger.
Loved the squid ink pastas and the spice. Pizza, white truffle bread - yummy. Attentive bartender, flexible host and staff. :) The restaurant space is open and inviting.
Excellent food! Polite servers, albeit slow at times. The ambiance is lovely, aside from the glaring spotlight that rained down on me throughout the entire meal (need to adjust lighting). Food runners twice mixed up which seat places which order (this is a training issue- table have seat numbers and food runner should not need to ask who ordered what before placing a dish down). Drink orders are SLOW! That said, the quality of the cuisine outshines all of these mishaps. We'll be back.
We ran into a little traffic so I called the restaurant to let them know and they were very understanding and the waitress was outstanding. The food was delicious and we will definitely add North Italia to our lists of favorites of the family.
A great place with great food!
Our waitress really knew everything about the food, and was educated about the wine. She was upbeat and very sweet.
The food was outstanding! If you don't try anything else, be sure to get the grilled, truffle oil garlic bread!! So good you won't be able to stop!! It's a beautiful setting and the service is excellent. I had been there for a large event 2 nights before I took my family back on Saturday. The large event was so well taken care of! The service for a large event of over 100 people was really over the top. I wish I could remember the servers names but there was so much going on. I can say it's the servers that served the GWU group on 12/6. I had to go back because the food was so good. I dreamed about the garlic bread! The chicken parm was the best I've had! When we went for lunch, I had the beef carpaccio and it was perfect. My husband said the scrambled eggs he had were the best he had ever had. My daughter had the Bolognese with gluten-free pasta and I couldn't tell the difference from regular pasta. And the Bolognese was exceptional!
It was great
