Very convenient when attending the Opera. Service was quick. My Shrimp and Crab Louis was tasty and fresh. Husband was almost 30 minutes late due to traffic parking the car, but they didn't give us a hard time about it. Loved being able to preorder our dessert and coffee for intermission, and it was waiting for us at the same table! Would definitely do this again next time!

I ordered the seafood salad, and have had the same in the down stairs dining room. The quantity of crab meat and shrimp are so minimal that it becomes a laugh. I have never at any place seen such a meager serving. 4 Strawberries for 10 dollars, I could swallow!

This was an easy and delicious way to attend the Opera. The service by Natalie was attentive, quick, and professional. The food was creative and delicious (We paired the vegan platter of avocado toast, arugula salad, and 'ahi' watermelon with an angus steak -- yes, a seemingly odd combo, but it worked for us and was especially tasty! And The Magic Stone cocktail was great: bourbon, lemongrass syrup, lemon). We ordered dessert for intermission, which was waiting for us at the same table. Some reviews here complain that the portions are small -- but, hey, you're going to be sitting in your seat for 3+ hours, so who wants a heavy meal? We'll be back!

Thought 2 salads and 2 glasses of champagne for $100 with tip was overpriced, but it was convenient. Afterwards, we easily found our seats to Swan Lake. I’d recommend if you want convenience for a price.

First time dining at North Box for a pre-ballet dinner. We were seated right away and had a fantastic table with a view of the lobby. Menu is limited, but the food we ordered was not bad. I had the crab louie salad, which came in a generous portion and was excellent. Service was friendly and efficient until the tables were all filled, and our server was slammed, which resulted in waiting a while for our check. We learned we were able to pre-order dessert and coffee/drinks for intermission, and it was so great to come back to our table at intermission with our dessert and coffee ready for us. Highly recommend for pre-ballet dining and pre-ordering for intermission because of the convenience. Food is a little overpriced but you are paying for the convenience of dining at the Opera House and not having to rush before the performance. Highly recommend.

Tickets to "Swan Lake" were my husband's Christmas present in 2021, and I decided tomato a gala evening of it by booking at the Opera House for dinner in the North Box Restaurant. We had a 6:30 reservation, and arrived at the Box level at 6:20 or so. We got wine and water right away, but NO FOOD until after 7 o'clock! At that point, for a 7:30 curtain, it was getting tight. We ate our salmon tartar faster than we would have liked, easy to do because there wasn't much of it! We returned to the same table for dessert during the first intermission. Desserts, coffee and the bill awaited. The coffee was the worst I've ever had, reminiscent of coffee from a machine in a public building. Lukewarm. Weak. Was it instant decaf because we'd requested decaf? I wouldn't be surprised. For all this--one wine, two desserts, two salmon tartar, two cups of weak coffee--the bill was $110. I would not return to that venue, and would recommend others avoid it also.

It is an okay place to eat when going to the ballet but the menu is stagnant and needs to be revamped. The service is generally superb but the food, at best, is passable. I would recommend the North Box Restaurant to first-time attendees but for season ticket holders I would eat there for convenience only...as convenient it is. The staff is most accommodating and helpful while the food is nicely presented it is mediocre...in my opinion.

There were 3 in our party. Two of us had the shrimp/crab combo salad. The lettuce and dressing were excellent. I've had this salad before and this time the shrimp and crab amount was quite small but it is still a nice fresh salad. One person in our party had the salmon tartar and she said it was very good. Our only complaint here is the bread. It is a soft squishy roll of no taste or substance which by the way you have to pay extra for. With all of the wonderful bread in the Bay Area why they would choose to sell cheap rolls is beyond me. We did complain but of course the staff has no power to change this. I don't love paying for bread but I especially hate paying for poor quality bread.

It was really good! Service was great. The only thing is, a friend ordered crab and I ordered salmon. I’m allergic to crab but only if I eat it, not air PRN. I had an allergic reaction so it’s possible someone used the same tongs for her crab and my salmon. All was ok and overall it was good

Eating at the opera house before a performance is certainly a convenient and efficient way to get in a pre-performance meal. It is going to be more expensive than you might pay at a local restaurant but as I said the convenience is worth it for us (my mom has some mobility issues.) The food is good although I wouldn’t say fantastic especially for the price but again if you’re willing to pay for the convenience, it’s worth it. The waitstaff is very helpful and has a sense of those who are trying to rush off to the performance and those who are having a more leisurely time and they’re very helpful so that is really appreciated.

This is a convenient choice for a light luncheon or dinner before an opera or ballet. To economize time, I suggest you pre-order on-line. The cafe seems exceptionally well run, the food is very good, with an attractive wine list., and some interesting specialty cocktails (try the Mexican coffee if you have time). Their service has been excellent on all our visits.

Yes, the food is cold salads only (even the added steak comes cold) but it’s nice having a table overlooking the entrance foyer and having a cocktail or dessert waiting for you at intermission. The restaurant is right off the boxes and easily accessible via stairs or elevator from the Orchestra, likely most parts of the theater. Food is fine, not the usual SF foodie level, but it’s the convenience you’re paying for. Service was excellent.

A charming place to dine before a performance at the San Francisco Opera House or to have drink and dessert at an intermission. Quality of the food varies. A recent scrimp and crab Louie was atrocious, tiny bits of crab scrimp and a dollop of sauce in a mountain lettuce.

We went here for dinner before seeing Don Quixote at the SF Ballet last night and it was fabulous. The food was really really good (we shared a cheese plate and the shrimp/crab Louie salad along with an order of Mary's chicken - for dessert we ordered the Citrus Panna Cotta and the chocolate dipped strawberries. The best thing is that the table was ours for the whole evening, so we ate the main courses, went to the 1st and second acts, then came back up for dessert and wine/coffee during the intermissions. After the first intermission, we were so stuffed that we asked Jose, our server, to put the strawberries in a box for us, which was waiting when we came back up. This is a wonderful way to attend the Ballet or any other event at the Opera House.

I've been twice the past month - the first time was excellent, though the menu is limited. The second time was a nightmare. We had to ask 3 times to get our order taken (this is when they know you have a limited time frame and the show is starting in <30 min) - Ordered a glass of La Crema Brut Rose - brought a glass of the house rose. Switched out after I pointed out the mistake - leaving me with ~10 min to enjoy my $30 drink instead of the hour long reservation I had booked. Food was acceptable; herb roasted chicken quite bland and cold. Fast forward to intermission - we had pre-ordered drinks and dessert. My pear hot toddy (which I had the first time and was quite tasty) was out but had cooled - since it had been put out too early. I asked for a new warm one - and was brought back the same glass with hot water added (now obviously this tasted like plain hot water and lemon since it just diluted the drink). Complained again and this time was brought a glass mostly full of whiskey and topped off with a little hot water - awful and gave me and my partner a headache with the first sip. I let them know i'd just have water at this point and was told "I watched the drink come out of the machine" - um what? $20 for a drink from a machine? And a bad one at that? PASS. We also ordered some cookies which were very unimpressive - overall, a sad offering that could be so much more. Recommend sticking to a glass of wine (make sure they don't swap it out for something cheaper!) and a cheese plate.
