nopa - San Francisco
To start positively, the service was stellar. Great wine options, knowledgeable server. The food was very pedestrian. The kind of food you can get most anywhere. The noise level was off the charts. We were seated next to a table full of coked up sorority girls from hell. While that is not the fault of the establishment, it could have been addressed rather than fed.
Great experience at the Nopa last night!
I LOVE a restaurant when they use fresh seasonal product in making the dishes. Nopa is a great example of it. We started with Warm Goat Cheese. The combo of goat cheese and pink grapefruit is not only visually appealing but also added a new dimension to the taste. One thing to note, the portion is def too big for two.
The Sardine is hands down my favourite dish. The moment they said it is a local catch I have to try it. The fish was so fresh and the vinaigrette dressing is just right to bring the freshness out of the dish.
The Date Cake is probably my second favourite of the night. If you like the combination of sweet and savoury, it is the dessert you must get!
The server was really helpful on providing details of the dishes and recommending drinks.
The only small thing I want to mentions is. I wish they can use some nicer plates to bring out the color of the food. For example, the date cake was on a brown plate.
Went here for my birthday. We ordered the goat cheese, the chicory salad, the pappardelle and the burger. The cheese and the pasta was good, but the salad was boring and the burger was too rare. I only had two bites of the burger. Overall disappointing, there are much better restaurants in this city at this price range.
One of the worst dish I had during my trip to the states,we had to wait long for it and it was not warm enough....not a good experience at all...I suppose the people atr coming for the atmosphere (and the noise ) but certainly not for the food...very disappointing
Good, but expensive and a bit loud.
I brought my family out from the east coast to SF to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday and chose NOPA. I called ahead, spoke to Manager, Francesca, who assured me that it would be a great place to celebrate. She said she wrote down that it was a special occasion so wait staff would know. She advised me not to bring in a dessert , as theirs were better and there would be candles. She said she would be there. Nothing happened. After paying my large bill I quietly inquired about Francesca etc. hostess said”sorry”. Then she turned around and walked away leaving me once again disappointed. I can’t get this event back for my family. I left feeling very sad. I hope the chef, manager of NOPA never feels this kind of disappointment when they attempt to arrange something special for one of their family members. I don’t know what else I could have done.
Far too long a wait, 25 mins between a bowl of beans and a goats cheese starter. Whilst other tables had received several dishes at the same time, in a shorter amount of space.
The service was exceptional
Outstanding as usual!!!! 💗
Great food, great service, very loud. But will go back.
One of my favorite restaurants!
Say nope to Nopa. Our 2-person dinner consisted of only 5 dishes but lasted 3 hours, not by choice. The timing was strange, the dessert never came and the food was mediocre. By the time our 4th and 5th dishes arrived, I had already forgotten what we ate first - it was that unremarkable. The only bright spots were the red wine and our server. I would not recommend.
Fabulous place especially for late night great bites!
Birthday and anniversary
Food was appetizing and savory. Service is great. Normally we have to wait or flag our server for more water. Here, it was never an issue. Our server and a coworker kept our glass and carafe full. We were also frequently checked on for anything we need. Atmosphere is relaxed.
Not baby friendly
Great experience. We had 2 savory meals for brunch. I recommend the sausage with the poached eggs. This was very hearty! The custard French toast is always a winner. Fabulous service!
We love Nopa! Scored a last minute reservation at 9:30 and were seated upstairs. It can definitely be loud but you don’t notice it at the table. My boyfriend and I were able to talk no problem. Food was delicious as always. The halibut special was to die for! Right amount of spice from the chili’s. Our only complaint was that the service seemed off. We asked for the Somm and while we appreciated and enjoyed the wine our, I think server, recommended it wasn’t quite what we were looking for. Our table was touched by 3 or 4 different people throughout every stage of the meal. Not a big issue as we are in the industry and understand when things get busy or breaks happen but made the experience a little off. Regardless, we will be back many times over!
Food and service were good. Noise level was a high.
Food, ambiance, service, everything was perfect! Recommend this place strongly!
We have been driving to the city from LA every year since 2008 so that I can get my Birthday dinner because this is my favorite place!!! Everything is so delicious!!! The pork chop/shank is so damn incredible, I rarely pick another dish!!!
Food is great, service is good but not exactly the best attitude, kind of on the smug end and acting like they're doing you a favor to be getting you a table even though we had reservations.
The french toast was good but the rest of the plates were very bland and disappointing. Overhyped and overpriced, wouldn’t go there again.
Love love love this place. The custard french toast alone would keep me going back.
It's lively and it's (too) loud. Most of the evening I spent with my hand cupped over my ear to hear my softly spoken companion over the incessant din of those shouting at each other on adjacent tables. It certainly does not help that the restaurant chooses to turn up the ambient music to the same level as the chatter. Food and service are great, so my suggestion would be to visit alone with ear-defenders.
I had the duck breast and it was great! My husband had a hamburger and it was a little under cooked as was the broccoli. Would absolutely try it again!! Great vibe!
Nopa was a fun and upbeat experience. The staff are friendly and helpful with their recommendations. The food was delicious! I would highly recommend it!
Chef Alejandro is the best!!! The food was great and the service. Nopa is the best!!!
Absolutely delicious. One of the few places in the city that offer macerated wine and they didn't let me down. The chicory salad was Divine and our roasted chicken was perfect. Thanks for helping to make date night so amazing...
Restaurant is a San Francisco institution but the food last night was a bit uninspired. Previous visits were better but dessert is always great. Meats were slightly overcooked.
Nope is always consistent. Fantastic food, daily menu, local produce. Service is very friendly and the drinks are amazing. I think unfortunately it is still very pricey and sometimes could be a strong argument not to go as often!
Disappointing. Overall food was average except the chicken which was very dry. Dry enough that I didn’t eat it. Service was poor and unattentive. Had to track down server on multiple occasions. Our dining experience took 2.5 hrs when all we ordered was apps and main course. It took over 10 mins for us to flag (anyone) down for our check. I wouldn’t recommend — hopefully your experience has been or will be different.
Fun restaurant - very lively "scene". went for brunch
Service was adequate - took 3 trips to bring cream for my coffee.
Food was also just adequate - coffee is bitter and gross (even after cream!).
I got special "ribs and waffles" and thought ribs were too smoked and too salty.
Sausage dish was good.
really good late night dining
The pappadelle is the way to go, but everything is amazing.
Food was pretty solid, but gap between appetizers and entrees was at least 45 minutes. It's like the food for the either balcony section was forgotten and then all came out at once. Once delivered the food was good, but this gap really detracted from the overall experience.
Everything was perfect. The atmosphere inside the store was very lively and powerful!
Incredibly impressed. The food was spectacular. When the bill came we were surprised that for $150 we had two cocktails, two glasses of wine, two appetizers, one pasta dish, a dessert and a coffee drink! Service was great too. But the food really was amazing. Can't wait to go back now that I know what all the fuss is about.
