Deliciously prepared homey style Italian food. It was good for sharing and liked by the kids. We had the Arancini, Calamari, and Ceasar Salad to start with and shared everything. Almost everything was eaten except for a few bites of the salad. Then we had the Chicken Parm, Bucatini Carbonara, and Cavatelli Short Rib pasta. Again all shared. The Chicken Parm and Carbonara was gone. The Cavatelli was good, but the kids preferred the others more. Big portions. Three items were shared by 4 of us. The kids are really two teenage boys who can eat a lot. We skipped on dessert because we were full, but the desserts looked good. Service was great - very attentive, and they have a pretty large choice of wines. I will definitely return.
Too loud and noisy. Food good, but not great. Caprese used store-bought cheese and was bland. Pricey for what you get.
Host was right on with reservation on a busy Saturday night. Great service and best cannoli on the west coast.
Fine cuisine dinner at an affordable price, every dish tasted wonderful, one more to add sweet memories of San Diego!
First time tonight and such a great addition to Little Italy. Amazing service and dishes.
It’s a nice place, but I would not come again. I did not like the food, the salad was too soggy, and my salmon with sweet mash potatos was very basic and ordinary...
It was too laude, hard to have a conversation around the table.
Was in town for the San Diego Rock N' Roll Half marathon and wanted some delicious Italian food to load up on the carbs before the race. Great ambiance, delicious bread, amazing pasta. Would definitely go back.
Food was pretty, I should say for what we got. Ordered an appetizer and out entrees. Got the entrees and even commented to the server, who wasn't our waiter "I guess we are not getting our appetizer". Waiter did come to check on us until my husband was completely done with is meal and I was almost done. Even though he was hanging around the bar a lot. We told him we never got the appetizer and to make sure it wasn't on the bill. He asked if we wanted out appetizer now. Really?
They noise level is very loud, it is hard to carry a conversation. I was hoping to give more starts but the service was a huge disappointment.
We were visiting San Diego with our son who is in this mid-twenties and my father who is in his eighties. The hostess accommodated our request for a quieter table by seating us outside in the front of the restaurant. The server was attentive without rushing us. Everyone loved their dishes and we ordered a variety from seafood to pasta to the Veal Saltimbocca. Our son-in-law owns an Italian restaurant in the Chicagoland area and so we were a little hesitant to go to an Italian restaurant but we were not disappointed in the slightest. Would highly recommend to natives and visitors alike.
Good food and service. Shrimp were a bit over cooked, but the veal was perfect.
We came here to celebrate my girlfriend's bachelor graduation with a party of 9. Easy reservation with OpenTable and requested we be sit outside in the patio I saw in the pictures. We got there right at 6pm (our reservation time) and were seated immediately even though 4 people were still on their way, and in the back as requested. The restaurant is in little Italy so good luck with parking. The outside patio in the back is outstanding. Great ambience, blocks out the noise from the busy street and is set up very "Tuscany". Our server was super friendly. We were checked on constantly. 5 of us loved our food. Two people said their food was good but nothing special, and the other two were left disappointed, both of which ordered the same plate, carbonara. I know for a fact my friend is very picky with food so I take the feedback with a grain of salt but my the other person also said it wasn't that great and it did look a bit bland, so I guess just stay away from the carbonara. I loved my chicken parm, I tried my GF's lasagna and it was amazing, and my other friend raved about their pesto pasta/chicken. The appetizers we ordered everybody loved and the majority of us loved our food so I have to say the quality and taste of food is overall a good bet. It was reasonably priced in my opinion. Please NOTE gratuity is automatically included. We paid $288 for two large appetizers, 9 plates of food, two beers, and one glass of wine including tax and tip. (~$32/person) Overall Nonna's is a great restaurant with quality service and food at a reasonable prices and great atmosphere. I would def go back for everyday dining or a special occasion.
Food was great and the staff and service was outstanding. Would definitely recommend!
We went to Nonna's to celebrate my sons graduation from SDSU. The staff was attentive and friendly, the food was traditional and excellent. I recently visited Italy and Nonna's came very close to recreating the experience. The short rib dishes were excellent, the bruschetta was tasty, the chicken parm was loved by all, the pizza was nice sized for the price, and the peroni was nice and cold. Overall it was a great experience.
On Sunday we celebrated Mother's Day and my daughter's college graduation. We had a nice table for 11 in the back of the restaurant in a patio area and it couldn't have been more perfect because we had some privacy but also we had the BEST SERVICE! The food was fantastic and very authentic because this restaurant is Sicilian food and I brought the toughest Sicilian critics, who were very impressed by the menu. Cramundo was our waiter and his lovely Napolitan accent made us feel like we were in Italy. His energy was off the chart!! I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Little Italy in the San Diego area.
We had a wonderful time and dinner at Nonna. The room was comfortable and very lively. You could tell everyone was having a great Saturday evening. And the food was wonderful! My mother-in-law has a sweet tooth so she had her first canolli BEFORE her dinner! So fun!
Absolutely LOVE their gluten-free pizza crust!
Celebrating my birthday. Very good food excellent service
We tried Nonna's on the recommendation of a local and loved it. Carpaccio Salmone was a light and flavorful starter which paired great with their bread. My wife had the Spaghetti Rustica which was full of vegetables and fresh mozzarella. She loved it but brought half of it home. I opted for the special of shrimp, halibut and baby scallops over linguine with a pink cream sauce. Both entrees were delicious and the portions are genrous. Everyone from the hostess to the manager was friendly and welcoming. Our waiter made recommendations and did not rush us at all even as the place filled up. The decor is casual and the place has a good vibe because everyone is happy. Definitely check this place out if you're in Little Italy.
We have eaten there many times and always enjoy everything about the Restaurant. This time though
I made a reservation requesting the back outside area. I realize it was a request but a disappoint for me because I was entertaining friends visiting from out of town. I asked if they could honor my request but we were a party 5 and there was no room to seat us outside. But there were plenty of tables opened in the back that I saw that were open and they could have accommodated us. We were already settled inside and all was good but I felt that I should have got the table since I made the reservation far enough in advance.
We had a great meal at Nonna. Sat outside on a sunny evening. They had the heaters on, but wasn't really needed when I was there We split the Caesar salad. What I liked about it was that they used bread crumbs instead of croutons and the dressing was a bit on the garlic side which I like
I had a had the Orecchiette Carne. Nice size pieces of short ribs with orecchiette pasta.. Delicious
My dinner companion had the Costolette. She said it lacked flavor and it was served on mashed potatoes
We took a chocolate eclare to go for and it was so so.. Not as good as we thought it be coming from Nonna
There was not a single thing that we ate here that was not absolutely delicious. Margaret our waiter was amazing, Peter, the owner was wonderfully accommodating (and makes a fantastic Rigatoni Puttanesca). The cannoli are amazing! We had to make a second visit and even bought a few extra for breakfast the next day. I had plans on hand carrying one cannoli home for my sister to try...but sadly, it did not survive the trip. Well...sad for my sister. Even with a few air mile on it is was delicious!
If I ever make it back to San Diego, this will be my first stop!
My friends and I met for dinner at Nonna. Our dinners were delicious — I really enjoyed the salmon. We bring our own wine and the corkage fee was only $15. Service was great. We will definitely return.
Delicious food, great ambiance
The service was excellent and the food was so delicious. We will definitely be back next time we are in San Diego!
Great Food and Great Service in an energetic atmosphere. We enjoyed the AntiPasta Misto,as an appetizer, Caesar and Rucola Salads were tasty - our main dishes which included the Chicken Parm, And Veal Saltimbocca were also very good. Margaret was our server an she was outstanding. We will be going regularly to this fantastic Italian restaurant.
My wife and I have been eating at Busalacchi run restaurants since 1990 and this was the worst overall dining experience we have ever had. There was nothing that we ordered that was worthwhile. The Arancini was cooked to the point that it could hardly be cut, the Caesar Salad was limp and over seasoned and even the fish special was barely edible.
Service was virtually non-existent as the restaurant appeared to be understaffed, although there were a number of possible employees standing around doing nothing. Our dinner was a 3 hour over priced ordeal.
I don’t know who is running the Busalacchi restaurants now but they better get their act together. You can’t trade off the name for long.
We had a lovely lunch at Nonna's after visiting the bar area on Saturday night and sampling the bruschetta & some lovely Pinot Noir. Lunch was just as fabulous! We ordered pasta dishes. The friendly service, excellent food and wine will keep us going back. Thanks, Nonna!
Really enjoyed this restaurant. I liked the simple, but varied menu. The food was some of the best Italian I have had in a long time. Seemed very authentic and family oriented. Would definitely recommend Nonna's!
I would say that Nonna's is good. Not bad, not great, just good. The Caesar salad seemed a bit wilty and not wonderful. My hubby loved the bread. My veggie pasta dish came cold and they quickly made me another one. All in all a nice experience, but certainly not my favorite in Little Italy.
We had three of the pasta entrees and a pizza. All were delicious. Nonna’s Is our new Little Italy favorite!
On a busy Saturday evening, service by Pietro was excellent. The pasta was extremely fresh and the dishes, bucatini carbonara and short rib pasta, were very flavorful. The cannoli we split for desert was awesome.
Really solid authentic Italian food with great service. We had the mushroom ravioli and carbonara and it was outstanding- paired great with their Sicilian Sauvignon Blanc. Reasonable prices for the quality and since the noise level was moderate, it was fine to bring kids but could definitely be a date night destination as well. Highly recommended.
So yummy! I forgot the name of the waiter but he was the best waiter I have ever had!! So funny and nice. It was a fantastic night I'll definitely be back! He had a man bun if that helps and said I'm his future wife... It was great!
Getting a reservation is a must! We walked up just as our reservation time and were immediately seated! Waiter came within seconds to take drink orders. She left and a different waiter passed and saw we didn’t have drinks so he also asked us what drinks we needed! We ordered the food and got some bread. Food came quick and it was delicious. There is a cafe inside the restaurant which is great for walking the food off back to the hotel!
This restaurant provided the FASTEST service I have ever had. My boyfriend and I were seated right away with our reservations, ordered and within 10 minutes we had already had our food and drinks at the table. We were both astonished at how quick it was. The food there stick to their restaurants name "Nonna". It makes you feel like you are eating a home cooked meal that your grandma would make you. If you have not tried their food here I would highly recommend it!
Food was very good, but the service wasn’t great. Waiter was enthusiastic and friendly when introducing himself but then disappeared. We could see him spending a lot of time with two other tables (regulars?)Had to ask another waiter for help three times. Manager was rushing around doing his best... but the rest of the crew seemed uninterested.
Food was mixed. My wife had the ravioli and it was average- no mushroom flavor. Pasta rustica and pasta bolognais were very good. Restaurant was very noisy and crowded. The service was rushed. Entree came before we had a chance to eat the salad. Server turned it into a joke about how the kitchen can’t slow down instead of apologizing for the poorly timed service. Overall I would not recommend.
Terrific place with good food and service! We appreciated seating for large group!
Two moms and three potential college students enjoyed our time at Nonnas. The moms had an hour at the bar before the kids arrived and our only complaints occurred there. Service at the bar was far from attentive. And they ran out of cold bottled beer. It was St. Patrick's Day so perhaps that's understandable but the way it was handled left us wanting a little more attention or care. Despite those two things, I'd go back! :)
