    If you are looking for a tasting menu this is the restaurant to go to. The food was exciting, delicious and totally unexpected. Mark did an exceptional job waiting our table, explaining the dishes, keeping an eye on our empty plates. He even saved our leftover treat at the bar for us to pick up after the opera. Thank you for this once in a lifetime experience.

    This is not so much a meal as a 2 1/2 hour curated food experience. It was excellent. The drink pairings were phenomenal, the flavors, textures, and presentation were all interesting and cohesive, and this was worth the very healthy price tag. The only note for the team was that they cleared plates faster than we could chew a couple of times along the journey. This was a lovely celebration event overall.

    Best service! Very nice and respectful staff! They also made sure about any dietary restrictions well in advance. Lastly they selected an appropriate corner spot for us which was really thoughtful of the staff! Very good evening in my life with the cutest dreamman of my dreams :)

    The food and service were outstanding. The tastes and textures of each dish were amazing and the presentation of the dishes were incredibly thoughtful, the wine pairings imaginative, and the conversation with each member of staff made us feel at home. The setting is also elegant while not being over the top (and be sure to peak into the speakeasy connected in the backhalf of the restaurant).

    This was an absolutely perfect dining experience. The service was impeccable with an entire team so professional, courteous friendly and knowledgeable. And the food was beyond compare, so tasty and so beautifully presented. I could not have asked for a more amazing evening for myself and my wife for her birthday.

    Our 51st anniversary, there was a card on our table signed by the staff, so many special touches that made us feel welcome. Bibek and the other wait staff were attentive and informative, the food was creative and delicious. Recommend for a special occasion!

    Nightbird is another addition to the ongoing trend of overpriced and unsatisfying food in Sam Francisco. Caviar, wagyu, and truffle can’t hide lackluster flavor profiles and lack of creativity in the dishes. These restaurants can’t compete with comparable offerings in NYC or other metro areas. The litmus test for a poor food experience is often whether the bread is the most memorable dish in a restaurant - and it was the case here. The ambiance and service are top notch - out server was great and a real professional. Loved the ambiance and decor - it’s a great spot for a date or special occasion if the chef’s creations were better.

    Exquisite presentation--both the food and the serving vessels. Friendly service, not too formal. From beginning to end food was playful and delicious. Portion sizes were right for a multi-course format. We were full, but not stuffed, when we were done. Highly recommend the wine pairing. You are introduced to wine varietals and vintages to which you likely would not have access. A very enjoyable experience.

    Our most recent meal at Nightbird was outstanding. From the moment we walked in until we finished up and it was time to leave, everything we are and drank was revelatory. Each was 1 to 5 bites. By the time we left we were both very full! 3 hours flew by in a flash. Can’t wait to get back. Chef Alter is at the top of her game. Go and enjoy!!

    Beautiful food, perfectly served. The wagyu course was the Best beef I’ve had in my life! But everything perfectly balanced. The serving staff is so welcoming and it is not only good for special occasions but also when you want to eat outstanding food. 5 courses is about 11 plates at the end of it. It’s a lot, and equal to or better than much higher priced places like Saison or French laundry. Must go.

    Great place, the food was very flavorful and good portions. We went there for St. Valentine dinner and we were happily surprised to find out that the restaurant didn't pack tables close to each other to crank as many people as possible. It felt like an intimate and romantic dinner. The staff was extremely professional and really made sure we had a great night. Will come back!

    We enjoyed the tasting menu. Very appealing food both visually and for taste buds! We were surprisingly delighted with the beignet. The highlight of the night was the sourdough bread for most of my party.

    Frankly this experience made me reconsider going back to any high end restaurant in the near future. The service was great, and the dishes were beautiful, but the flavors were, overall, underwhelming. The star of the show was the A5 wagyu (it came w/o a supplemental price, which I appreciate) but even that had a piece that wasn't sliced all the way through. This didn't materially change my enjoyment of the dish, but when you come to a place like this you do kind of expect perfection, and meat that wasn't sliced properly just doesn't meet that expectation. A nitpick, maybe, but again, what's the point of fine dining if the details like this aren't fair game for criticism? I would not return.

    It was an amazing experience and the menu was divine! Wonderful wait staff, service and ambiance. They also accommodated a food allergy and impeccable customer experience. We didn’t know that for NYE that the pre-fixe price was almost double ($350 vs $185) which was advertised on website and open-table when I booked it, and was never told in advance. We found out when the check came, so we definitely ended up with a much bigger bill than everyone expected. It was a memorable evening, and everything was perfect otherwise…just a huge shock when the bill came and sort of awkward to say anything in the moment (didn’t want to ruin an otherwise perfect evening!)

    Nightbird is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the city, and one I have become very attached to as each successive visit has given me more reason to be enchanted. I feel they have Michelin-quality service at a very reasonable price in a relaxed, pleasing atmosphere without fussiness that can make fancier restaurants intimidating but with the elegant dining experience that features flavor, presentation and texture. I've always been impressed by their cohesion as a team - front staff all involved in the care for every table in the restaurant, sometimes the sommelier (who has a really playful and apt approach to wine pairings) helps deliver food or a waiter will bus, etc. A lot of sharing work and smooth flow. I'm very much an amateur foodie, but I know what I like and I have enough experience to appreciate when it's being done well. Highly recommend to people who want a quiet, intimate and fulfilling dining experience.

    Unfortunately, the most expensive meal I’ve ever eaten was not the best. I was not aware it was a price fixed (no choices) only restaurant and that everyone at the small restaurant would be served the same food. The “courses” were only one bite each except for the main course. All of the early bites were delicious but the main course was not. The duck confit was crisp while the breast was rare. This was after an hour wait between “courses”. We went after The Nutcracker but there was no option for children and the chef came out to explain that they wanted to charge me a full sitting fee for our 7-year old when I asked for a fork for her. Oh boy. What a bad ending to a special occasion. I’m glad so many people have so much money to waste. $300+ per person is crazy even in SF. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
