So fantastic. Worth every penny. Tasting menu was lovely. We added paté en croute and the cheese since we aren't big fans of sweets after dinner. Staff was really kind.

Gap Year at Nico was excellent. Chef Jordan Guevara created delicious, inventive and beautiful dishes. I had the tasting menu with wine pairings and every dish was a culinary delight. I look forward to seeing what the next 11 months bring.

We had been to Nico three times (twice for dinner, once for lunch), and thought Gap Year was a step above the regular Nico dishes. The presentation, the wine pairing, and the service were all on point. I am excited to try their new Spring menu when it comes out!

Great food! If anyone is curious though, you can not share the tasting menu. I don’t know much about fine dining but if one gets the tasting menu, your date needs to get it as well (my poor wife had to try a bunch of food she would normally not try lol). Spent a bit more than I thought I would but overall had a great experience. The food is delicious and the presentation is beautiful. Waiters and cooks were all super nice as well.

Great food and creative dishes. However, the service was a touch rude and couldn't fully remember the specifics of all the dishes. They included a mandatory gratuity for a table of 3 which is fine but unexpected.

The menu was inventive and delicious and the service was perfect. They also still have the same delicious inventive cocktails. Loved the experience and food!

Gap Year is serving some of the most exciting food in SF since Altelier Crenn opened. My wife and I dined with Chef Crenn two weeks after she opened (she bussed our table!) and left knowing she’d eventually have two or three stars. It’s been since then that we’ve been at a new restaurant and left with the same reaction... until our Saturday night dinner at Nico. Chef and team are absolutely killing it on all counts - not only with the food but the wine and service as well — and the care, love and technical precision the dishes are made with is truly mind-blowing. The references to the original source recipes are the coolest food nerd thing I’ve ever seen and the fact that everything is washed down with a tsunami of champagne is worth the visit in and of itself. I texted a good friend in the middle of dinner and told him to “get the hell down here,” and while he couldn’t make it that night, I hope he does. If not, he’ll miss out on one of the most exciting and special meals around right now.

The food was exquisite. We had the tasting menu. 6 courses, each one building off the last and leading perfectly into the next. Lots of flavor exploding out of little bite size parts of beautiful creations. I was amazed at the creativity, flavors and presentation! The service was wonderful. Very attentive. I wish they explained the food in more common speak though. We had to keep asking what things were after the explanations assumed we spoke French or ultra foodie language. We are not generally folk who eat ultra fancy foods so we would be like okkk but that does that even mean. More accessible language would have been nice. The layout is small and intimate with an open kitchen. That's amazing to see the team of quite, focused & talented chefs doing their thing. The head chef was kind to his kitchen and always looking over the quality of the dishes. It was wonderful to see the inner workings of the well oiled kitchen. The price point for the food was fine but BEWARE the wine pairing. That was almost as much or more than the food. This made the total way over what we would even spend for the best meal of the year or decade. I was thinking dang I coulda given my parents a weekend getaway all expenses paid for this amount. We shoulda done the math earlier. So anyway if you wanna spend about $500 for three people for a very special occasion you're in the right place. If you're rich enough to spend 1K on dinner, come loan me a grand cuz my credit card bill is now on fleek.

Hidden inside the lettuce was a small edible flower. Celtuce is a vegetable new to us all. It was tasty. The turbot, the marrow and the turnip competed to be the most slippery mouth experiences. It's like a school for learning how to eat well.

Beautiful, intimate space serving exquisite French deliciousness, with a carefully curated wine list to match. One of the best albeit short BTG lists in the city. Labor intensive, traditional dishes such as the pâté en croûte and pithivier are a must. Hoping this fun, fresh “Gap Year” concept catches on and more restaurant owners try it!

The food is all edible art (and delicious to boot) and the service is fantastic, the wines are well chosen and the space is gorgeous and intimate. Bonus points for truly excellent music, too. We were there on Day 4 and the experience was utterly fantastic! Paul is always delightful and set the perfect tone of casual elegance. Chef Jordan’s dishes danced that line between technical, humorous, and just plain tasty perfectly. Oh and the wine list is great! Not quite as extensive as the Morris’s holdings but really cool.

Husband and I did the 6 course pri fixe with me wine pairing. The food was pretty good, but the wine pairing was terrible. 2 of them were higher alcohol content and more liquor which actually kicked in my gag reflex. The main entree of the chicken galette was absolutely delicious, but I have to say that I would have enjoyed that and the rest of the meal if it had been lesser of a portion. That dish alone would have been my normal amount of dinner. I probably would have been good with half of that (my husband with 3/4 to feel like he didn’t get ripped off). The wines were all from France and if you’re into where your wines come from, that’s cool, but I wasn’t and it was sort of just disruptive to have a wine explanation with every dish. Also- it would have been great to get a little tasting before a full pour because half the wines I didn’t like and an alternative would have been a nice. It was our 10 year anniversary and after a show at the Masonic. Chosen for proximity to the Masonic. I won’t be coming again and likely not recommending this place.

the 4 of us had the Chef's Choice menu with wine pairing... interesting that chef decides what to cook based on table size and what's fresh for the day... everything came out delicious with nice presentation... celebrated a friend's birthday and restaurant had a card waiting at table and a candle with the dessert. nice touch. will definitely return.

I used to like Nico. A lot. After they first opened at the old location in laurel heights we had quite a few nice dinner there. I have been at the new location on Montgomery only for lunch and my last visit makes me doubtful I will return any time soon. Service was awesome, food was delicious.... Only problem is - the entire sizes are ridiculously small.. I ordered this eggplant dish and it was so small I thought it was a joke. Maybe 3 of them would have been a decent portion. But the it would have been a $90 lunch entry because the eggplant petit four was priced at $30.

Small intimate place perfect for datenight. I love the open kitchen and that served as entertainment since you see how your food is prepared. We did not do the chef tasting since that will probably last 2.5-3 hrs to complete. But everything came out really delicious and well proportioned. I especially recommend the lamb entree 🤤 so good. I would definitely come back.

I came here for lunch on a Friday with two others. We ordered almost everything on the lunch menu, most of the food was too salty for me. Portion size too small for the price, I would expect each dish to taste spectacular or be full of flavor. Presentation of dishes looked nice. Oysters were plain compared to when I had oysters from The Progress. The ambiance was quiet because there was only one other table. Service was standard.
