We came in to celebrate our engagement for brunch. Food was delicious.
Only hiccup was when a server dropped dirty silverware on my fiancée and stained her clothing and jacket with red sauce. No one came to address this after it happened and no accommodations were made.
Overall very enjoyable. The only two minor knocks are the atmosphere in the dining area is a little too crowded for me. Table layouts and traffic flow limit the comfort. The octopus appetizer was just ok but the balance of the meal and the service was top notch.
Excellent service. I was hoping for a lunch menu, but we got a brunch menu...we were thinking about leaving, but our server was so enthusiastic and persuasive that we stayed. I am so glad we did. Service was awesome. Food was “to die for”!
Every flavor always so well thought out. Best service ever!
Amazing as always
Excellent waiter (knowledgeable, friendly, + helpful / wise recommendations) and very good food in a pleasant peaceful indoor setting.
Nice Weekend brunch with different type of options. Good Italian wine list. Service is very good.
Best Rigatoni I’ve ever had. Unreal! My wife and I had a very pleasant anniversary.
The food was great. My wife and I each had fish - dover sole and halibut, plus a shared salad and a shared side of persian cucumbers. With one cocktail each bill was over $150 plus $30 tip. It was good but not worth the money.
We sat at the “chef’s table” where we could watch them make the appetizers. It was a fun experience. The other tables did seem close together so I was glad we had more space and it helped us decide what to order. The food was amazing. Our waitress was very attentive and had great suggestions. Great place! Wish they offered more wines by the glasses though.
Service was very good. Brussels sprouts bruschetta is excellent. Pasta Bolognese was very good but the temperature could have been hotter.
The crude is always wonderful as is the pasta! Very friendly welcome.
Return visit and return again. Good place to go before Porchlight Theater.
All that we hoped for
People at restaurant were extremely well trained
Made our evening better
We had friends from out of town with us and decided to come to Nico Osteria. They and we really enjoyed the food but some how the wait for our entrees was extremely long. The hostess, not the waitress, brought an appetizer to pacify us and when the waitress did make an appearance it was always very short as if she was embarrassed by the wait. She could have at least explained why we were waiting so long.
I saw Nico Osteria advertised online by chance and decided to check it out with my boyfriend, who was visiting from out of town. We both consider ourselves "fine dining aficionados" and Nico Osteria did not disappoint! The decor was definitely upscale and the service was excellent. The servers visited us just often enough to keep us fed and hydrated without being overbearing. The food was delicious as well. I got the lobster spaghetti which was very excellent. I especially loved the way the noodle's texture was similar to the lobster itself. My boyfriend got the 7 oz wagyu strip, and we were somewhat disappointed that it was rather dry. We had cannoli for dessert, but the cannoli was not the typical Italian cannoli that we're used to. These were more like donuts with pistachio ice cream. Our waitress did explain this to us when we ordered, but we just wasn't sure what to expect! I was really hoping for a regular cannoli!
The only other disappointing thing that I'll mention is that we went there on a Sunday night and were seated at the bar because we were told that we'd be able to see the chefs cook from where we're sitting. We were able to see the chefs, alright...from the other end of the bar! Perhaps it wasn't as busy as it usually is, but the chefs occupied the cooking area behind the bar from the other end, and we were seated on the opposite end, so we were somewhat disappointed that we couldn't see the chefs work more closely! But it's just a minor inconvenience, and overall we had a great time here! I still foresee us coming back at some point, but next time we'll know to ask for the close-up seats closer to where the chefs are working!
Celebrating running the Chicago Marathon
My husband and I have two children (2 years old and 8 months old), so going out just the two of us these days is a huge undertaking.
The food was excellent but the service was poor due to our waiter forgetting pretty much everything we asked him. I also noted on my reservation that we were celebrating my husband’s birthday. Usually restaurants provide a complimentary dessert but this waiter did none of that.
I was greatly disappointed in the service especially having dined at Nico Osteria before and having a better experience. We expected to have a nice night away from our kids but having to repeatedly ask the waiter for things made the night feel as if we were at home.
Marathon & birthday
Food was delicious
The ambience delightful
While we found a wine we enjoyed, the wine list could be expanded to include more affordable wines
Our waitress has a terrible attitude - luckily the mngr stepped in and took over the service for the remainder of our evening and he was outstanding.
A terribly off night. Food was not good eg. halibut, raw tuna, nothing on menu for 8 year olds . What a mistake to bring my family.
This is the first & last time we will visit this restaurant.
Very disappointed in the food, our waitress was not attentive.
The food presentation was not attractive. We sat at the counter which we thought would be a fun experience. My husband & I watched teenage boys preparing our food. No gloves & their hands touched the food. No utensils were used & I never saw them washing their hands. One young man had a bandaid on his finger. Hopefully it wasn’t infected as he was touching the food.
No one smiles & everyone looks bored including the bartender.
This was supposed to be a special evening, since this was an early birthday celebration.
We flew to Chicago and tried multiple restaurants. The hospitality at Nico was like no other. The meals’ flavors were well balanced and offered a unique meal. A new must visit place for my wife and I
The hostess was cold and the food came out similar. I was extraordinarily disappointed. This would not be a return.
Good place to have a great dinner
Good ambiance and a very nice bar section
No one greeted us. We sat for 20 minutes and no one acknowledged us. I finally got someone’s attention and I let them know we had been waiting for 20. Not even a sorry. Last time I eat there ever.
I am not a fan of the close tables side by side and I would not accept a table like that again here. Otherwise great.
Love Nico's. This has quickly become my fave place to go despite the many, many choices in Chicago! Our waitress, Lindsey, has made our experience awesome, twice now!
The melon salad was tasty and beautifully presented. Pastas wereOK. The tagliolini with peaches was bland and the lobster spaghetti was very pricey.
We love this restaurant. Because we were sitting outside, the service wasn’t as good as we’re used to. While I loved everything I ordered, my husband sent back his Dover sole because it was over cooked, not good and frankly, the portion was very skimpy for a 42$ piece of fish. I love it there and I will be back! But my husband? He may not...
Great server, great food
Service was really long. We sat outside. Had to go to concierge to get table as they forgot. Dinner service was very slow and confused.
Not their best noght
You can always count on Nico Osteria for a memorable meal.
Thanks to all that staff that helped with the purposal, and everything that went smoothly.
Food was horrible, been there 3 times and each time was not good, we kept trying because we like the location.
LOVE NICO ! DRIVE FROM LAKE FOREST ALL THE TIME AND PLAN MY ERRANDS IN THE CITY AROUND BREAKFAST,LUNCH OR DINNER !
I had the heirloom tomatoes and the Prosciutto and both were delicious!
The food was excellent. The service was top notch. The pasta and seafood were all very good. Innovative meals
Another superb evening at Nico which NEVER disappoints. As there were two of us we sat at the counter and during the meal exchanged some conversation with the chefs in the show kitchen who despite being busy were happy to share insight and explanation into what they were preparing.
Our server Laura was wonderful - very knowledgeable, pleasant and smiling - nothing too much trouble. Given it was late summer we enjoyed some of the lighter seasonal items on the menu before they disappear. Their sommelier Brett was on top form as always with some terrific recommendations. I have been coming here now since shortly after the restaurant opened several years ago and have never had a bad experience - magnificent and so glad we have Nico in our neighborhood.
