The restaurant is OK. Our waiter was arrogant; rude and inattentive. It is amazing how one person can truly ruin a meal.
It was amazing! They met our every request and went above and beyond
We were warmly greeted and welcomed by the hostess.
We were a party of 7. Two of us are from Wisconsin, and this was a return visit for us. The other five ladies drove from Ohio for our Chicago weekend. They were all very pleased with every detail of our Nico Osteria visit. The hostess who seated us mentioned she graduated from Ohio State University - as have several of our family members - so that was a good connection!!!
Lindsey, our server gave us an excellent overview of all the menu items. She addressed the few questions we had and provided good input.
The wait staff was attentive and friendly. Our water glasses were filled often --- and our requested items were provided willingly.
Every food item was delicious -- and the brussel sprouts were as good as they were on my last visit.
There were two September birthdays in our group. I mentioned this to Lindsey, and when the desserts were served, there was a candle on the two items for the birthday girls.
Everyone was pleased - enjoyed every food/drink item -and we all agreed Nico Osteria is a "must do" when we have the good fortune of returning in the future. Sincere thanks to everyone for making our evening ALL and more than we could have hoped it would be.
New grandparents get together!
Great service and great food.
Very enjoyable evening.
Food was ok. Octopus was over cooked and cold and one dish had pine nuts that were not listed on menu. Noticed we didn’t finish everything on each plate which we normally do. Just wasn’t worth the price tag this time. I’d still consider going back but maybe for their lunch menu.
Great place for business meets. Grab a booth inside post 8:30 on a weekday and it's a perfect mix of quiet and semi-formal, wonderful service and ambiance. The pasta is sublime and your client will enjoy!
It was my second date - we are both foodies who love good wine. First time at Nico for me. I had heard good things and Nico far exceeded my expectations!! Almost everything on the menu was tempting and the wine selection is excellent. Our waitress was super - very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. I will be back!
Service was a big problem. It took asking to get a waiter. Once we ordered we never saw him again until our food was served. Asked for bread that never came. And to get the check it required the manager to get some attention. Unfortunate as our meal was really good and the place has a great ambiance.
0 stars for service if 0 were an option. 1 hour at table and only drinks and bread. Waiter came by twice in 1 hour first to take drink order and then for appetizer order. Never returned to take entree order, check in, or explain delay in arrival of appetizers. Appetizer included raw oysters which don't take 1 hour to shuck! With a half empty restaurant, service was deplorable. Waiter was openly apathetic simply setting silverware, keeping his back to tables, and not making eye contact with customers. Despite having made online reservation noting anniversary celebration and requesting a quiet table with privacy, staff sat us in middle row of tables with guests within inches of us on both sides of very narrow seating. Coincidentally, we could overhear that our neighboring guests had also waited upwards of an hour for their food and had incorrect orders delivered.
With such poor service, we chose to leave after appetizers as staff never took entree order and an hour wait for appetizers was beyond acceptable. Requested to speak with manager who took 10 minutes to track down and who acknowledges service was poor all around for such an empty restaurant. Hoping that Nico can get their staff in order for improved service on all levels.
The food was excellent but the service was horrible. 45 min for a cup of coffee
The staff at the bar are fantastic. The appetizers were great. The main course was a dud. The fish was way undercooked and the Cacio e Pepe was basically buttered noodles. Everything is also way over priced.
Had an awful experience from the bottle of wine we purchaed not being allowed on our table, to our server yelling at us for the way we handed helped him clear the table. First time there and not going back.
Fun night out, great wine food, our waiter was also great
Perfect place for serious breakfast meeting during the work week. Quiet, accessible, excellent service, accommodates last minute schedule changes.
Over all was good. Ordered my burger medium and it was medium rare to rare. I didn’t send back just ate. Avocado toast was good.
Both food and cocktails were quite good but service was poor. It started with the two of us with being seated inches from a loudly chatting foursome when there were 6-8 other two-tops available. We asked to be moved but had all but given up by the time the waitress finally reappeared and accommodated us. After that she was barely civil to us. We had to flag down other wait staff to request a wine list, and later we had to do the same for a dessert menu. The accumulated wait time spoiled our enjoyment of what otherwise would have been a good meal.
For a date night on a Friday night everything was fantastic. The service from the start to the finish was awesome. The Brussels sprout bruschetta was phenomenal and the wine selections were right on par. Definitely going back again soon.
The food was over worked. Too contrived. Real Italian food is simple. Very sAlty. We had a matcha dessert that we couldn’t even eat. Not going back there.
Chicago is one of my favorite food towns, and Nico Osteria is at the top of my list of "must do" restaurants when in town for either business or pleasure. On this 6-day trip I ate there twice and was wishing I had another night to sample another of the amazing dishes I saw coming out of the exhibition kitchen. The new Executive Chef (as of 7-weeks ago) is very creative with a real talent for marrying flavors in non-traditional ways. For example, one might expect prosciutto to complement a summer cantaloupe and prosecco soup, but how about kalamata olives and shaved grana padano cheese? It was amazing. I can't wait to see the menu creations when I return in October.
Thank you so much for wonderful review. We are very proud to have Chef Tim Graham leading our team in new directions. Nico Osteria is honored that you dined with us twice during a 6-day trip. We would love to see you again in October!
Super neighborhood dining experience with indoor and outdoor seating.
Food was delicious
I brought 4 people who had never been there before. Really a wonderful meal
Great place for date night. Food is delicious and the wait staff is very friendly. Some of the tables are a little too close to one another. Almost felt like we were at a large table with strangers.
This restaurant never disappoints, fresh, delicious food and great service. I was only disappointed that the chef's choice crudo sampler was taken off of the menu :(
Everything I had here was so so good! Will definitely come back in future trips to Chicago.
We dined for my mother in laws 60th birthday. Everything was perfect. Alex our waiter was great! He really made our dining experience exceptional.
It was a great dinner.. Just wish they had a bigger menu! Lobster spaghetti was amazing, as was the Brussels sprouts and the meatballs! We would definitely come here again.
There have been some transitions here but the food is still top notch. The wine program is unique and the Italian heavy list is one of the most exciting in the city.
Truly exceptional and creative food and service that made us feel like VIPs.
Food was too trendy and a little odd. Was hoping it was more of a traditional Italian restaurant. A little disappointed.
We have been eating at Nico at least 2 or 3 times a week since it opened. I am so sorry Donnie and his group left. The service is now terrible. The food is terrible. One of the best restaurants in town is gone!!!! We live in the neighborhood and are so sad ! Even though our dinner was nicely comped which I didn’t want to accept but the manager insisted. We’re just so so sad to have lost the restaurant that everyone loved .!!!!
It was very good, but nothing to write home about.. the menu could use some improvement.
We had beef carpaccio (was good, not great) should’ve gotten a crudo. The roasted broccoli was amazing and enough to split. We also had the orchiette with tuna sausage it was AMAZING!!! The pasta was cooked perfectly! For dessert we had the panna cotta it was an amazing combination of granita and custard and berries! FANTASTIC!
The food was served cold. The service was poor. Even though the restaurant was empty, they couldn’t get it right. Felt like a less than average place. Will never go back and definitely will not recommend.
What could beat an outdoor table at Nico Osteria on a beautiful Saturday evening? The food offering is world class delicious, yet healthy choices are abundant like the poached halibut that I selected. Moreover, the people watching is superb.
Server was especially helpful! Nice atmosphere and comfortable temperature...👏
The waitress was terrible, so put out.
Good place to meet for brunch.
Thought that $15.00 for 1 piece of bruschetta was pricey compared to the entrée pasta for $15.00.
