First time visit & VERY IMPRESSED!
We eat out at a lot of establishments across nation (and globe) and squeezed in a quick meal here before a show.
Very much liked the convenience to the theater, the high quality food, the good options for kids (special menu designed by chef's daughter), the value of the food quality to cost, and the service. The waitstaff was amazing. Friendly, helpful, accommodating (when we wanted to go to the show and come back later for the desserts that came with the meals, holding our leftovers, etc).
Would definitely return for all of the above reasons - great job Nico Kitchen & Bar, we're a hard family to impress and you've done it!
Service was excellent! All staff was wonderful and very pleasant
Under new management, this restaurant has developed new menu items, daily specials and re-trained staff. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and attentive. i thoroughly enjoy coming here for its atmosphere, quality and convenience.
New manager ! Yah. Delicious food. Great bean burger. Been coming here for years before NJPHILHARMONIC This was the best lunch ever. Thx to new manager Don’t know if new chef but seems it. A pleasureful lunch.
As always, the staff was charming and polite (though they tend to get overwhelmed easily), and the food was atrocious, as it always is. My friend had the quiche and salad. The quiche was absolutely devoid of flavor and the accompanying salad was full of sand and had no salad dressing. I had the burger - pretty decent, except the beautiful, skinny pommes frites that were traditionally the highlight of the meal have now been replaced by some oddly shaped potato that's just god-awful; the overriding flavor was of dirty deep fryer grease.
We had a pleasant pre-performance meal--the food was quite good, the noise level was fine, the service was a little slow but attentive and we finished in good time for the show
Pre theater dinner
I don't like writing bad reviews but we were totally disappointed. Why have dinner after a show and not be prepared. I appreciate the apologies the servers were giving us. I don't blame them, I blame management.
Really lovely on all counts, food, service, vibe all first rate.
Food selection was very disappointing
Ordered the vegi pad Thai- which was awful
My husband had cheese plater - which was also horrible- served with 2 crackers and 3 grapes.
Only good thing was location- right in njpac
Nico's is a convenient and enjoyable place to eat prior to a show at NJPAC. The ambiance is very nice and the food is well prepared and tasty. There's a nice selection of wines. However, it would be great if there were some additional vegetarian entree options on the menu. On two recent occasions when we dined at Nico's, Pad Thai was the only vegetarian entree offered, so the meal was a little repetitious for the vegetarian in our group. There were two fish entrees, but true vegetarians don't eat fish. Otherwise, we had a very good dining experience.
I had a prefix dinner before a performance. The menu selection was sufficient. My food was tasty, flavorful and just enough not feel too full or stuffed. My waiter Miss Winter was cheerful, pleasant and helpful in my choice selection. I look forward to going back to NICO’s more often.
The food was really great. Had the best filet mignon I’ve ever had. The service was great as well. Will come back again.
Wow! Let me begin by saying, I am a foodie. Me and 2 of my friends were going to show at the NJPAC and decided we wanted to get there early to avoid traffic and have dinner before the show. We were not expecting anything special at the restaurant even though it had good reviews. When we got there, we were pleasantly greeted. We were taken to our table and were immediately offered a choice of sparkling or tap water. The staff was on point in refilling our water without having to ask. I was extremely impressed with the food, cocktail menu, ambience, and server. (The cocktail menu had a wonderful variety of cocktails. I wanted to taste them all, but settled for the blue Long Island Ice Tea, the Side Car, and Valentine concoction that was delicious and refreshing. Their wine list was also up to par.) Our server's name was Carl and he was pleasant, friendly, professional and attentive to our needs. He gave us great recommendations, although everything on the menu looked amazing in how it was described. We had the smoked tomato soup, kale salad, steak, catfish, nico cheeseburger, which came with delicious fries, brussel sprouts, and the sausage and potato skillet. The flavors were savory. Each bite was better than the next. Compliments to the chef! I noticed the staff in the restaurant to be very energetic and attentive to all their tables. I hope to be able to come back soon and sit at the beautiful bar. It is not typical to find a restaurant where their food and cocktails are both AMAZING!! I love that you can accommodate big parties as well as provide a quiet space. I noticed a divider in the room that allowed for a more private experience. Thank you NICO!! I will definitely be coming back and recommending to my friends.
First time to the area/venue (Comedy show) and the restaurant. Was nicely surprised by the ambiance. I had the crust/corn meal catfish - Catfish is my favorite and they did it to perfection!... My date had a beef rib/pasta selection that he enjoyed as well. We took a chance a had a suggested wine and was happy fir the recommendation for now it will be added to our wine list.
Highly recommend and would return if I am ever again in the area.
We were pleasantly greeted upon arrival, shown to our table to wait for the rest of our party. The servers were very attentive, asking if we needed anything while we waited. The meal was superb, the value great, no rushed service finished in plenty of the to go to the show. We look forward to our next visit.
I so wanted to like this but the food and service wasn't good . My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's day , we had the 3 course meal and our appetizers were the only good part of our meal .
We were not served for over an hour after sitting
Had a great experience, the food was delicious and the service was excellent.
NICO is one of our favorite places! The food is innovative and outstanding, the service is impeccable and it's awesomely beautiful. Great People... Great Place
Love coming to Nico's. Food always great, they have a good menu, and daily specials. Service has always been very good. We'll definitely come here again.
We always enjoy our meals at Nico, but something felt like it was missing this time. We didn't have a full drinks menu at the table (just the wine list, no information on beers or cocktails), and service was friendly as always, but slower than it has been before. Our waiter was lovely, but we sat for nearly half an hour between appetizers and mains. When it's a prix fixe menu, and it's known that diners are (likely) going to a show, I'm not sure how that happened. We'll go again, but hope that things run a little more smoothly.
The service and food were both excellent. A screwup in the reservation system was handled well by the hostess.
We ordered the prix fix dinner before a 7:30 show. The food itself was fine, but we waited for 45 minutes for our entree, only for the waitstaff to bring out the desserts. They ended up correcting for their mistake, but the mishap made us have to rush to get to our seats in time. They comped our drinks to make up for this, which was nice if
Took almost 2 hours for a prix fixe menu. Barely made it to show on time.
Macaroni and cheese was cold. Multiple requests for silverware - service was not attentive.
Fantastic food! Great service! Awesome dining before a concert!
Very convenient location for lunch before an event at the NJPAC.
Party of five -- everyone was satisfied with their meals (burgers/fries, lobster roll, salads).
The fries were very good. If I return I will try the lobster roll which looked great!
Service was attentive, not overbearing. Coffee was sub-par.
Reception staff were good. Welcoming. Wait staff was good, but not attentive to detail- two requests were not acted upon- more bread and coffee after. There were very few tables occupied in restaurant so it was not a capacity issue or timing as we finished 25 minutes before curtain. Food was inventive and well presented.
We were there on concert night so had to get Prix Fixe at $40 per head , $44 w/ dessert. (4 of us) The salad was missing the cheese on top and was stringy , the soup had no croutons, the beef was salty. We complained to the manager-- who seemed to know in advance about all these issues-- but did not even have the class to comp us some part of the cost. Went there for the convenience-- never again.
Nice atmosphere, choices are a bit limited. Very convenient if you are attending an event at NJPAC.
The food was delicious, although portions were a thad small. Wait staff ware pleasant and accommodating. We had the pre-theater dinner. Starter and main course came quickly.
Dessert was a long wait; we had to ask for it twice. It was clear at that everyone dining around us were also waiting a very long time for their first or next course. Either Nico’s was short of staff that night, or I must select an earlier reservations time leading to a performance at NJPAC. We did get to our show on time, but a little tighter than I wanted. Overall, the food, space and wait staff were great. Will definitely dine there again.
Solid food, awesome service.
If you’re going to NJPAC, it’s an easy and safe choice. Pizzas and burgers are a good value. Higher-end entrees are decent, but this place is about dinner and drinks before the show.
Dear sir/maadam, Thank you for the kind words. We are making changes to be far greater than "easy and safe" though! Stay tuned. Thanks, James Hampson General Manager
We had a great first experience. All of the wait staff were cordial and helpful. Our waiter Carl was wonderful helping us with menu choices and offering prompt service. The filet mignon was first rate and the scallop entree delicious. We would enthusiastically recommend this restaurant.
The service was fine. The food was too spicy for our taste, the chicken was dry, the burger was dry and tasteless.
Hi Rich, We are so sorry you found those items dry, tasteless, and too spicy. Thank you for the kind words on service, and as always, we'll be looking to improve so everything will be perfect on your next visit! Sincerely, James Hampson General Manager
Our waiter, Carl, gave us excellent service.
We have eaten here for several years before shows. I only wish that the menu would change around. The entrée choices have stayed the same for as long as we have come here.
It’s just a very nice, reliable, pre-show dinner. Pretty much everything on the menu tastes great, the portions are just the right size to eat before sitting through a concert, and they are incredibly good at getting you out in time for the show.
