Nico Kitchen & Bar - Newark Ratings and Reviews
Over all it was fine..however the front desk seemed rather disorganized and told us that there was no reservation and no table..after some confused minutes, they seated us to a table. It was clear that the restaurant was not fully booked that night. So why were we told that they did not have a table for us just because they did not find us on the reservation list?
It would have been less unpleasant if they had offered a simple apology for the inconvenience/misunderstanding.
The server was cheerful and polite which made up for the initial unpleasantness.
They did honor our reservations, but Nico's was totally overwhelmed Friday 11/10/17 because of the Jazz Festival and multiples events (at least 2). The waitress either put in an incorrect and more expensive order or thought we wouldn't notice the additional charge of $20? (we'd ordered the smaller size of steak and were charged for the 16 ozs. serving. Who needs that much steak?) I had to wave at the hostess to get my glass of wine. The bus staff was trying very hard but was understaffed for the number of people there. We'd both ordered the strip steak. I ordered rare, but med. or medium rare came out. Had to wait. We both decided that the steak cut was too chewy for our tastes anyway. My roasted tomato soup was excellent. Desserts were v.g., but we had to rush out for our concert start time. Didn't have time to finish them. (We arrived at 6; concert started at 7:30.) Good value as they included a starter and dessert with the charge for the main course.
Went to Nicos before a show. It was the worse service I have ever encountered at a restaurant. I think all the regular wait staff did not come in and they got family or friends to wait tables. We waited 20 min to get our drinks and 15 more min to get our appetizers. They had no idea where the food was going to what table. They brought us 3 different appetizers that we did not order. They brought us 2 different entrees that we did not order.
Our reservation was for 6:00 for a 7:30 show. At 7:30 we were still waiting for our check to pay. They had no idea what check was ours. What a nightmare.
Nicos better get it together. They were not that crowded that night. We had been there about 5 months ago and they were packed. Probably will not go back.
While the food is of highest quality and exquisitely prepared and presented, the inexperienced and undertrained staff affects the overall dining experience. The wait for cocktails was beyond acceptable and despite the apologetic and friendly server it ruined the rhythm of the dining experience. I'm not sure if there were an optional dining choice I would continue to patronize Nico's.
Only thing to recommend was the location. It is located in the NJ PAC building. So the convenience of parking once and walking into the show from dinne in 5 min was great.
However for a restaurant that should be prepared for r
Pre show events was clearly not prepared for a full dining room It took us 30 minutes to have our wine served. Glad we had the time
Dry meatballs and an average Ceasear salad with 2glasses of wine for $50
Will look a little harder next time
This was our second time dining at NICO Kitchen and Bar, and it was fantastic. Service was friendly, and accommodating. The menu was diverse, and everything we ordered was perfect. We would absolutely go again, and will recommend it to friends.
We go to Nico for dinner before concerts at NJPAC since the restaurant is right in the building. You don't even have to go outside to get to the NJPAC lobby! On nights when there is an event at NJPAC, they sometimes have a pre fix dinner but not always, so call to check. On this occasion (10/31/17), our server was Andrea and she was perfect. All the staff at Nico are very pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive. Even the manager came over to speak to us and helped with our table, although this was not necessary as they have plenty of staff per table. It got crowded but not loud. Would love to sit at the bar sometime. The food is delicious but not over-plentiful so get an appetizer (and/or dessert) if you're really hungry. We are going back 11/16 - Open Table said there were no reservations available but the hostess checked and she got us a table at our preferred time.
Nico's is part of the NJPAC building. As you walk in one is impressed by the ambience, casual, but sophisticated. A look at the bar and one sees a nice crowd. Wait staff was attentive but not intrusive and ready to assist with any questions.
The menu is limited but appealing. The food itself is well prepared and presented. Overall a solid dining experience.
I was very disappointed. I have heard great things about the restaurant and I have never been able to get a reservation when attending an event at NJPAC. The convenience is great. The service was extremely slow particularly knowing we were going to the event. Our food took well over 30 minutes to arrive after ordering. The place is not that big either so the kitchen staff should have been prepared to be quicker. The food was below average in my opinion as well. I will not be returning. There are fabulous restaurants in Newark, Nico's is not one.
Went in for a pre-show quick dinner. Our server was sweet, and our food came out quickly. My tuna was cooked spot on, and the pizza looked delicious. It's the perfect spot for a great meal, and a glass of wine before a show. We will defnitely go back to try more on the menu.
Nico's has turned the corner and got its service on track. Food was good if not special, and service was friendly and efficient. Located in NJPAC it is perfect for pre performance dining--one time parking, etc. Our meals were simple but satisfactory and as we were interested in a light meal, this was fine.
If you get the right server... it will be a lovely gastronomic experience. Great that it is connected toNJ PAC ... slagain..... IF you get the right server who doesn't stand around and avoid eye contact and call you "you guys .. or "mama "...or brings coffee out w/o sugar dish or steak without a steak knife until reminded... or not making sure dessert was served before the curtain went up.... i missed out on the banana bread pudding! The manager is awesome visiting tables to ask about dining experience! It works for quick dinner, a drink and a great show.. with parking right across the street!
Visited NICO prior to attending a show at NJPC...You cant beat this restaurant and pleasant bar for convenience while attending a show at NJPAC. The cocktails were great and the food was spot on. We received outstanding service and every attention to detail was followed up by an attentive management staff.
The restaurant is clean, bright and appealing.
We recommend NICO when ever you are attending NJPAC for a pleasant dinner and great cocktails. It attaches directly to NJPAC so you do not even have to go outdoors once dinner is complete.
Nice job all around by the NICO staff....we will most definitely be back again.
We had a person in our party that is limited in what can be eaten due to having had throat cancer. . We looked at menus online, one labeled ‘dinner’, one labeled ‘all day’. We reserved when we saw options for our friend. We got there to find out they only had the limited dinner menu, either price fix or ala carte and ala Carte pricing only kicked in an hour prior to the show. The ‘all day’ menu with so many options was no where to be seen. Needless to say, our friend found something but could only eat a small bit. Pretty poor for $44 price fix. Also. The $44 price fix cheeseburger was so over valued....would never go back. Our server was great! All food was mediocre at best. Too bad it is really the only restaurant very close to the PAC
Been here twice. Food is mediocre at best. Ordered chicken milanese that came to the table cold and had to send it back. Chicken was very dry. Had "crispy brussel sprouts" app
that was not cooked enough to make them "crispy.
Only positive is the convenience of being inside NJPAC. It is a pretty restaurant that is great for before or after show drinks but that is it.
Arrived very early evening to register for an event next door. Decided with our group of 4 to get a bite. Walked into an empty space and an extremely rude girl told us we could not be seated because we didn't have a reservation. I told her I would call and make one, to which she replied then I won't answer. We went outside and used the open table app and got a reservation. We went back in and told her we had a reservation to which she said no you don't you were just in here! We showed her our Confirmation code and still argued about seating us. The wait staff is very nice but tried to deliver four other tables food to us . The restaurant had mostly empty tables near us. We finished and left . Food was okay. Considering they are the only place attached to the PAC what a wasted opportunity for greatness!
The service was awful.. there is very little else to say.. we all received our appetizers, except 1 person..we all received our entrees except 1 person, we gave the waitress out credit cards and 15 minutes later we had to send someone to find her...
