Very slow service
My daughter and I had such a wonderful dining experience at The Nest Kitchen and Taphouse. The breakfast food was outstanding and the staff made us feel right at home. I can’t say enough about the picturesque patio dining area overlooking the golf course! Our new favorite breakfast spot!
The customer service was below average. I felt rushed and the waitress was clearly tired and ran out of personality. Probably my last visit.

Please try to find a way to control the flies. We ate on the patio two weeks ago and were plagued by many flies landing on our food. The “candle” did nothing, but create smoke. Yesterday, we ate inside to avoid the insects, but still had to shoo them away because the servers had to frequently open the doors to go outside. Maybe put ceiling fans outside to blow the flies away. The food was great, but the experience was not.
My wife and I wanted an early dinner.
We were able to walk to the Nest.
They were very accommodating even for our dog that joined us.
Our waitress offered to bring a water bowl for her.
Overall, the food was excellent as well as the service. We will be back.

Due to the pandemic, our preference is to dine outside for now. This little gem is perfect. Great drinks, lovely views of the golf course and a plentiful charcuterie tray. Our server, Christina was new, but was attentive and friendly. Only negative, which is at many restaurants, is you battle flies while eating. They have several citronella candles, but we purchased one of those table fans (after our first visit) which seemed to resolve the issue. Note: once the sun sets, the flies disappear.
Everything seemed to talk a long time. About 30-40 min to get first drink
Also we are in a pandemic... people preparing drinks or moving through the dining room should have a mask on and properly worn. There at least 2 staff who didn’t adhere to this that I could see.
Service was on point and the food was excellent!! Highly recommend if you’ve never been.
My wife and I dined here for the first time on Thursday, 8/27. The service was outstanding. The drinks were great. The chili and wings were both fantastic. The Southern BLT was spectacular. My wife inadvertently ordered the vegan brat, which she did not love, but she is not vegan. The Cherry Mango Cobbler was very good. We will definitely go back.
Service was great from start to finish! Those waitresses are very attentive and super friendly! I’m vegan, so the fact that they had a few options for me was phenomenal and that they tasted amazing!! Compliments to the chef for sure!!! Very pretty place and very clean!!
First time dining there. We chose outside dining, due to the great weather, and wary of inside dining with the virus.
Great setting on the golf course. Tables spaced a good distance apart. Our waiter was a bit busy, but not to the point of wondering where he was.
Food was as described. A hefty Charcuterie tray with 5 types of cheeses, prosciutto, pepperoni and various breads and cracker was more than enough for 2 people. Craft cocktails seem to be their specialty. The High Fashioned, with a coffee essence of a Old Fashioned, was delicious.
The Salmon w/ Cacio e Pepe Risotto was a simple dish, that was well prepared.
Based on their menu and social posts, brunch seems to be a big draw. We’ll definitely be back to give that a shot.
Melanie was fantastic! The brunch cocktails were great and the food was plentiful & delicious. When we’re back in the Newport News area, we’ll for sure visit again!
Our service was horrible. Our waitress set down the menu ed and didn’t even take our drink orders until a while later. When we did get our drinks she brought us a can of beer with no glass. Then she said that she would be back to take our meal orders. Every time she left our table, it was a while until she came back to us. We feel like the service was just awful and even though the food was good, we will not be back.

Lovely, comfortable outdoor dining. Food was clearly thoughtfully prepared, used very fresh ingredients and portions were ample. Great value. Dinging the service one star because hostess was not wearing a mask, but everyone was very friendly, courteous and helpful.
I really wanted to like it but the gazpacho was overpowered by chili powder and the chicken tacos were dry with huge chunks of red onion that overpowered the dish.

We dined al fresco @ the Nest for Father’s Day. The sun was beaming down as the morning progressed. Unfortunately it got to uncomfortable. I would recommend purchasing umbrellas especially for days like today. The waitress was kind enough to move us to another table under the covered patio. Overall fantastic brunch. Thanks!

This was our Valentines dinner. When I made the reservation, I didn’t realize that they would have a separate menu dedicated for the occasion nor do I realize they had a separate dining area specifically for Valentines guests. The set up was nice but I was hoping for a more intimate dining experience where instead I felt like we were at a wedding. Still romantic I guess. I wasn’t sure if we could choose from the regular menu or not (weren’t given the option) as I had my mind set up on a certain meal, but it was pretty good as far as the choices we were offered. All in all it was a good dining experience but I would choose the regular dining option next time instead of a special occasion dining. I would still recommend this restaurant.

Awful experience. Husband and I snuck away from the kids for a Valentine’s dinner. Nest had great reviews and a good looking prefix menu do we decided to give it a try. We had reservations and we were seated promptly. We were not the only customers there however it was still early in the night. Three waitresses came out of the kitchen to take pictures of the centerpieces. No one acknowledged us, after 25 minutes my husband flagged a waitress down. She apologized and took our orders. It took 5 minutes for my drink and another 10 for my husband to get his and for us to finally get water. While we waited, other Customers where seated and served water immediately. The food cake out at a decent time and tasted good, nothing spectacular and certainly not good enough to make me overlook the other errors of the night. The music was blasting so loud that it was hard to converse with my husband. Desserts came out, we both got the molten lava cake. Neither cake was warm. Then I went to scrape the whip cream off of the top and there was a long blonde hair. We flagged the waitress over and she apologized and took it away. The manager brought out a new one out and apologized. I was feeling grossed out at this point and decided to just have some water. This was the first time I was drinking the water because I had soda. Lifted the glass to drink and found the bottom of the glass full of grit. Looked in my husbands and saw the same. It was unbelievable truly. I wish I was making this all up. I am not one to make a fuss, I just won’t go back. But I honestly feel that the manager should have done more than just apologize for hair in the dessert. At the least she could’ve comped a drink. But at this point it doesn’t matter. I have no intentions of going back to Nest. It’s a shame, it takes a lot for us to set up a date night &leave the babies. Luckily I have a sweet husband and we were able to joke about it. I just find it a shame that the service and quality don’t match the price.

I like this place, and the food has been consistently good, but the service is just hit or miss. I'm pretty sure the kitchen was understaffed on 2/1 for.dinner. it took us a full hour to get our food, and 25 minutes to get our first drink order from the bar. Other times we've gone, it's been quicker. It's never been super quick, but an hour is a bit much.
The drinks are very good when they arrived, and my spicy lentil burger was tasty.
I'll try again in hopes it was an off night. My husband probably wont

Went for restaurant week, but I have been before. As usual, was outstanding. I don't eat desserts, and there were 2 items in the Apps I wanted to try, and they let me order 2 apps, rather than dessert. My new favorite word is POUTINE! It was awesome. It was so good, I am going back for lunch today and breakfast tomorrow. Wonderful, wonderful restaurant.

Food was different and really good. Service was ok...no complaints, but no greeting by hostess and waitress was simply polite , but not great at all. I would come back because the rest of the menu looks very interesting
